Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Changes v Saints

For me.

IN: Byrnes, Clisby, Frawley (if fit), Magner

OUT: Dunn, McKenzie, Pedersen, Rodan

This is based strongly on the assumption that Chip may get up for the Saints game as I heard mentioned by Spud and Chip on the radio yesterday and that Dawes may be right. Either way I'd have both Davis and Pedersen on standbye as emergencies just in case, with Davis to get the first crack. I'm also under the belief that we can now uplift another rookie so I'd be lookign at uplifting Clisby who's run and disposal could be very useful. Couch may feel hard done by but Clisby's been very good for Casey.

FB: Garland, Frawley, Terlich

HB: Howe, McDonald, Clisby

C: M. Jones, N. Jones, Byrnes

HF: Tapscott, Watts, Davey

FF: Fitzpatrick, Dawes, Kent

FOLL: Jamar, Sylvia, Magner

INT: Blease, Toumpas, Trengove

SUB: Evans

EMERG: Davis, Pedersen, Rodan

Howe and Clisby to run off the half back flank with some reasonable disposal which we desperatly lacked on the weekend.

Byrnes into the midfield mix as he has an ability to rack up some posessions and use the ball well.

Magner into the middle to help get some centre clearances.

Dunn goes due to his horrible performance on the weekend and should never play again. Hopefully we can trade him for Cale Morton at season's end ...

McKenzie, too one dimensional. At least Magner can get the ball.

Pedersen was ok but if Frawley's fit then goodbye. I'd have Pedo on standbye in case Dawes doesn't get up to play up forward.

Rodan, wasn't horrible but needed to do more. I'd prefer Byrnes.

This is all conditional of course on Frawley and Dawes getting up and Clisby being eligable to be elevated. Very good chance (dependent on Frawley & Dawes) that we can have another 2 debutants on the weekend.

This 2nd half of the season will be a good chance for us to see what a few players have and if they're worth persisting with.

I'd be more than a little tempted to swap Dunn for Davis for the next game. Similar size, but Davis is a better defender even if he isn't as good a kick.

We need to remember the match-ups too. Tom McDonald to Reiwoldt again. Garland to Wilkes/Meister whatever he calls himself. Who then takes Kosi or his replacement (I don't know who they are regularly playing as a forward these days)? Pedo, Seller? I doubt Frawley will be up for it, although it would be very nice if he was.

The core of their midfield isn't terribly quick, so we could get away with playing Magner or Couch in there. The other option would be to play a lot of pace and try to use their lack of pace against them.

One thing that does concern me is their small forward options. We have nobody who can stand Milne, and they then have a coupe of newer guys like Siposs, Steven and Saad who can hurt us.

I like the thought that Neeld will follow through on his thought of dropping the senior players who keep burning us with poor disposal. We could well see Dunn and McKenzie dropped for this match. Along with Dawes (big assumption there), that would give us three clear outs.

Out: Dunn, McKenzie, Dawes

In: Davis, Magner, Gawn

This puts a huge load on Fitzpatrick to play as a pure forward with Gawn resting forward and second ruck, but the saints don't have a great defence so it could work for us. Magner gives us more grunt than Jordie in the middle and helps Jones with extraction, and as stated above, Davis a straight swap for Dunn in defence. There is a temptation to find a spot for Jetta, but I think he needs to put in a few more big games at Casey. Strauss was pretty poor on the weekend, so needs to step up and earn a recall.

Agree strongly with dropping McKenzie & Dunn. Try as they may, you will not be a good footballer without decision making and basic skills. Particularly in a young team who don't spread to space and make it an easy kick.

Dunn should never play for the Demons again but McKenzie is a stopper and should concentrate on that.

Disagree on Byrnes. Doesn't use the ball well, is slow, adds nothing and will soon be gone. Play a Taggert or anyone else with a future. JV might be ok to play.

Dunn, McKenzie and Tapscott should all be dropped.

Couch, Magner and Strauss should all come in - we need to see what these players offer, so that we can make informed decisions at the end of the year.

Fitzpatrick gets another game to try to build some confidence against a far worse opponent than Collingwood.

I'll take you to task on Byrnes' ball use, he's one of the few players in the side who is a consistently good kick. Watch his games earlier this year; he kicks the ball low and fast at the lead, rather than high, up-and-under, and/or behind their lead. He adds plenty to a side of awful disposal. He's also no slower than most of our mids.

FF: Watts Gawn Davey

Foll: Jamar McKenzie Sylvia

OUT: Tapscott, IN: Byrnes - Just need more fit players working hard up forward

OUT: Dunn In: Clisby - Clisby has AFL potential lets play him
OUT: Fitzy In: Gawn - Fitzy has had his chance, lets play big Gawn again

OUT: Pedersen In: Davis - Time to try the kid

OUT: Rodan In: Magner - Magner may be limited but I feel he covers more ground than Rodan

Give Jordie McKenzie another chance he is battling hard and actually trying, we can't take that for granted (I know that's sad). Also lets give McDonald first go at Riewoldt, Terlich to Milne, Garland playing on a lesser tall and focussed on helping those two in particular.

I think we need to see some of the young players get multiple matches. As much as I have, at times, admired the work of Byrnes, Rodan, Sellar etc... it would be great to see Taggert and Davis get a go. I am convinced that Davis will not make it but he gets a heap of the ball. Give the kid a run. I haven't seen a CAsey game for about 4 weeks but if Clisby is dpoing well, give him a go.

OUT: Rodan, Dawes (inj), Dunn

IN: Davis, Taggert, Strauss or Jetta.

CONSIDER: Gawn, Clisby

Who exactly did McKenzie stop yesterday?

He played on Sidebottom all day who had 19 touches. In saying this I would still drop him. We lose too much drive with him through the middle.

I dont agree with playing kids for kids sake. By the looks of the Casey report it was a win driven by Magner, Couch, Hogan and Byrnes. Not exactly a list filled with available youngsters. StKilda and Dogs are winnable games and we should put our best possible side on the park. I do think Clisby is a sneaky to be upgraded though as has had good form and by all reports has toe and can hit a target. Assuming Chip, Viney and Dawes play (big ask) would go with the below.

Out Dunn, Tapscott, Rodan and McKenzie

In Frawley, Byrnes, Viney and Clisby.

Good. It wasn't just me. Just about everyone else commenting on selection for the next game wants Dunn dropped. And for everyone on here who wants to say he's a good kick, I'll accept that he's a long and reasonably accurate kick for goal. But around the ground his 'up and under' style puts the recipient at risk of being completely crunched...time after time.

I'd think about Byrnes in, for Rodan?... or Tapscott.. against the Saints.

I don't think the team that took the field against the Pies did too much wrong, but I think a lot right as a developing team... we really took it to them in the first Qtr.

After the Qtr time the pies got a rocket from Nathan Buckley... they started to apply more Pressure to us & they ran harder generally compared to their 1st Qtr.

The pressure they applied, was just a bit much for us at this point.. so I'd like to see that side we fielded against the Saints.. but I'd like to see Byrnes in.

Jetta's a possibility, but Casey has a bye next week, so I don't think he has the form, other than this one good game.

Out: Jamar, McKenzie , Tapscott

In :Gawn, Jetta,Couch.

No more names, no more panic merchants.

Actually thought Jamar wasn't too bad yesterday Biff. Presented well and won the taps, it's not his fault alone that the midfield doesn't know how to set up and win the ball.

Gawn can come in for Dawes if required or for Fitzy (that's a toss up).

Not sure why people are even thinking about Frawley for the saints.

Surely a hammy requires 3 weeks out and hes Only missed 1 week.

Maybe a chance for Bulldogs?

Couch or Magner must come in. Ludicrous to think that these boys both got 40 touches in the vfl but would be overlooked. Surely both would at least break even with Tappscott's invisible performances.

I'd like to see us pick a team and let them play for a few weeks. So on that basis, I'd bring in Chip if he's fit - probably for Pederson or perhaps Dunn.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

    MAULED by Whispering Jack

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
