Yeah, I know. Sorry. I'm keen to know about a couple and KC is always a good read.

I had Taggert and Tynan in my preferred Round 1 team vs Port

Might have gone too early but I rate them both highly

would have both of them in the MFC team ahead of a dozen of the current players

We keep hearing from at least one poster here that (can't remember which) Taggert or Tynan "will be a gun"!

Any thoughts from your personal observations KC??

I don't think it's me but I do think he has considerable potential if managed right i.e. looking after his back

KC, I haven't said this for a while but I, along with many others on this forum, appreciate your efforts to keep us updated about the scorps on match days and during the week. Reading your reports are always great as well.

Thanks again.

It will be a couple of years before you might be able to call either one a gun but I would have Taggert ahead in the race. His four goal effort could earn him a game at AFL level, if not next week, then soon after the break. Tynan could become a steady defender but I don't think he's going to become a champion.

Taggert should make it. He's got size, fitness and skill he just needs time and to find the footy at VFL level. He'll be a midfield/forward rotation guy at AFL.

Tynan I have big doubts on. Seems very slow and unskilled for a guy aiming to be an AFL defender.

Is this round 8? if so this win (and percentage) should put us in the top 4.

A couple of observations from Sandy (I was there to watch my nephew go around in the development squad):

  • A few people I spotted: Paul Gardiner, Choco Royal, Col Garland.
  • Hogan took a terrific contested mark in the 1st quarter and is a very strong kid! Will be immovable in a couple years.
  • Blease kicked a belter of a goal from near the boundary in the 2nd.
  • Regardless of whether he played a good game or not Jimmy Toumpas makes very good position as an outside mid. Will prove a good choice in time.
  • Magner shouldn't have been dropped.
  • Casey seem to be well coached.

I thought Taggerts biggest weakness was his fitness? - wasn't he one of the slowest on the track over preseason? - maybe that was due to injuries

Rory has had stress fractures in his back and played virtually no footy last year. He did a limited pre-season this year. As you would expect his fitness is not at AFL level yet. But he will get there, and he has all the tools to be an 150 AFL game onballer/high half-forward.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
