Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

If only they could have got him to sign with us...

We tried this year todd viney gave him a call, but obviously with all the drama going on at the club he decided to stay with his mates at GC. Have a feeling maybe at the end of this contract where a good chance to get him, as his mum desperately wants him to come back home.

Hawks offered him 350k a year just before he re-signed

Obviously in 2yrs GC might be battling for a premiership so it will be hard to lure him away

in 2 Yrs time they may be having difficulties with their salary cap. & with assorted ego issues & money. & coach situations.

we'll takes our chances, & pays our money if it comes to that then.

Let's hope so because he is a future star of the competition if he already isn't one.

yes, I know. timing is always key, & we just keep being off-balance to get the ready when available. just poor management for decades. we've had one strong period in the 80's, then "caca" again.

Mahoney hinted that Shiel is in our sights. I'd be more than happy with a straight swap for pick 2.

i dont think youd be too alone with that deal. Cant see Giants handing up a gun, all work already done to develop into a ready to go mid only to start all over again !!

big win for us. Seems very unlikely for mine

And if GWS wanted a player rather than a pick, would you be willing to trade Tom McDonald? Obviously an exchange of later picks would probably be required to balance things a little.

under no circumstances will tmac be traded. Far too important. Can think of about 20 blokes I would send first

I disagree. id trade Tmac for a super gun of a mid right now. why not . ppl get far too attached to players. its always about timing and needs.

theres a difference between whats palatable and what might advance your game

its not an attachment. Yes we need mids but not at the expense of quality key position backs. They don't grow on trees. Ask the saints and they'll tell you

Absolutely we should trade pick 2 for Shiels. This bloke considered a top 3 pick before he was initially pre picked for the Giants. Killed us the first time this year with his gut running and speed. Highly regarded for his leadership too.

I wouldn't want to lose McDonald either but I'm also realistic about the nature of trades. GWS need a proven key defender, we need an elite midfielder or ten. You've got to give a little to get a little. I don't think we'll be throwing up McDonald's name but if we've managed to talk Shiel into at least being open to coming to us and GWS tell us that they're not interested in getting picks, do we give up on the trade or do we consider McDonald. If the club is confident Frawley will sign a contract extension they may be a little more open to it. "No circumstances" is pretty definite. How much footy have you seen Shiel play. He is worth pick 2 and he's definitely worth us considering trading a player of the ilk of McDonald. We all talk about being ruthless and getting active come trade time but most clearly aren't prepared to take the big step to actually change up our midfield. I must be the only one who's a little tired of seeing us get absolutely destroyed in the midfield every week.

Not sure.

The pressing need to get elite midfield talent into this club is clear. However, McDonald could be our FB/CHB for the next 10 years, and whilst we clearly need mids now, I maintain the view that midfielders are easier to come by than key position defenders. Missing out on a midfielder now is easier to remedy down the track than losing a star defender (i.e. it's going to be harder to find someone to replace McDonald than it will be to find someone to 'replace' Shiel).

If I knew 100% that we will keep Frawley next year, then maybe this would be less difficult, but, taking into account our midfield stocks, I don't know if Shiel is worth McDonald.

I do agree with you though that, in order to get some elite talent, we're may well have to be ruthless, so if it ended up happening, I wouldn't be upset.

I keep hearing that midfielders are easier to get yet we haven't nabbed one in a decade of high picks.

That's like saying that goals are hard to score in modern football because we don't score many of them.

Our ineptitude at both choosing the right players and then developing them into the AFL players their talent suggests they should be does not change the fact that, in general, midfielders are easier to find.

That's a fair call and I've said more than once that we shouldn't use our poor recent drafting record to discourage us from trying to snag a star at the top of the draft. I've just reached the point where it's become patently obvious that no one wants to come to us and for us to get a competitive midfield is going to require sacrifices. We're on the nose and for good reason. If we want an elite midfielder we're going to have to do something a little daring.

What if Frawley has already indicated he will leave next year. Is Frawley for Shiel & Adams a fair deal ?

Careful Mgdee, I've just introduced Demonland to the proposed loss of McDonald. I'm not sure we're ready to hear Frawley's name mentioned as trade material.

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

    GAMEDAY: Rd 07 vs Richmond

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

    OOZEE by The Oracle

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
