its not good to change coach every few years happy.gifhappy.gifhappy.gif

happy.gifhappy.gif

Its also not good to pick 2 coaches that fail to develop the list and also coach/teach a football team to win games a football. Damn if you do, damned if you don't. Thats the risk PJ will have to take, either we stay with the current coach and hope to dear god that he can turn it around, if he doesn't then we'll be picking a new coach next year. Or find a new coach and hope that he can turn it around. Its all a risk and we seem to be losing every time.

Knowing the way MFC operates they will probably extend Neelds contract cause the team showed a "good effort" on the weekend!!

I am actually warming to the idea of Rocket coaching us, when he was coach of the bulldogs they had a real focus on speed and skill which i think would suit our forward structure perfectly, and he squeezed every drop of ability out of his players,

they were a very good team in the company of Collingwood, Geelong, Hawthorn, Stkilda all at the height of their power at the top.

Remember about the cost implications.People are acting like we can simply axe MN, pay off his contract, hire an expensive caretaker like Roos, and then pay for another experienced coach...

If MN isn't coaching next year, whoever is you can bet they will be thanking him... thanking him for restructuring the list, putting up with all the flack of its impact on this years performane, improving fitness and that he has invested in better players for when the new coach comes in (ie, Toumpas, Hogan, Barry)

Bit sad when you think about it. MN will cop all the flack in the world about short-term results, but I guarantee the same people won't attribute him with building the foundations of the list (Trelich, Evans, Viney, Dawes, Clark, see above for next year, ect) which will lead to better and more important long-term performance... all the new coach has to do is come in next year and take all the credit for the rebuild - something which I'm sure all the short-term, narrow minded and beligerant supporters will let him get away with.

Whoever is coaching next year (MN or someone else), list wise, is getting a better list than MN inherited.

You mean a list of young draft hopefuls and some old under performers... Sounds pretty much the same to me.

I have heard that a few times in the last decade PJ.

I see little to support that.

Agreed, didn't Bailey say that the new coach will be taking over a list with a golden ticket to the finals!.

Yes and Michael Vos said we were the next power team and MM said we had the best young list in the league.

Just for the record Clarkson said on the couch tonight that he nor his management was never approached to coach the Dees when we appointed Neeld. Disappointing to say the least.

I was informed otherwise by a member of the senior management team.

This person had no reason to lie to me, just as Clarkson had no reason to lie on On The Couch.

Ross lyon said the same thing, but i had heard the players were all but told Lyon would be coaching them.. strange

Fair call old dee.

Going to be an interesting year. Going to be an even more interesting next year.

Supporters have a right to be skeptical. There is a growing impatcience from supporters and what patcience is left at the end of this year will too be pressuring for better performance next year.

He said he was the man with the three year plan. It's going to take three years to get out the dead weight, get draft hopefulls for the long-term and gain short-term leadership and skill from trades, and he said it's going to take three years to get us up to AFL fitness.

The heat is on this year for wins, which I think is the wrong mentality. Next year will be the true test... but can supporters wait?

Peter Jackson will not settle for a coach who does not have premiership credentials. The boards approves the coach decision but Jackson will get what he wants, it's not a matter of if.

since when did peter Jackson turn into god?

I'd prefer that the coaching choices are going to be made by someone thats going to stick around.....

I think it's pretty disgusting that there are already odds on the next coach though, that's just shocking.

fine to throw hypothetical idea's around but an actual betting market is pushing it.

Slow down, Geelong is still the 'power team' of the comp. They have been since 2007. Given that we've seen 2 (maybe 3) of those since 1990, it's weird that we're bagging someone for predicting our success before that success has had a chance to happen.

What I'm trying to say is that the next power team of the comp might not arrive for ten years and it could be us, who knows?

There is no other team in the comp with a list so void of embedded senior players - barring perhaps the expansion teams for whom that prospect is impossible.

We've got to stick it out, it's all we can do. Imagine the off-field position we'd be in if we sacked and paid out Neeld, hired an experienced 'premiership' coach for around the million mark per year for 4-5 years, he fails to meet the supporters expectations, and we are forced to fire and pay out again. This would just about knock us off as a club.

If we, as supporters, take a deep breath, grit our teeth and keep going to games and supporting the current coach and players, the wheel will turn.

I have done that so often over the last 49 years I have only stumps left.

I am running out of years I doubt I have the required number left to wait for the wheel to turn.

Currently I am struggling to find the wheels for our wagon let alone getting them turning.

think of a number

double it

divide it by 2

take away the number you started with

sacking Neeld now would just add more years of waiting...... Bailey was never going to be able to get this club going in 3/4 years..... We pulled the plug to early..... If we do it again.... You might never see success....

Neeld has had one and a bit years.... This club was collapsing before he joined.... We should of expected that it would take time to get it right.....

When voss made that claim.... He was looking at a club that just recruited the two best kids in the land, a high flying Liam Jurrah at his peak..... And a club that seemed tobe running well under the leadership of Stynes..... At the time we all thought we'd be the next superpower....

We have been smash from pillar to post by the media...... The media have been relentless in there endeavour to squash this club.....

In my opion.... We should stay the course..... We should see out Neelds contract.... And if at the end of that.... There is no more improvement..... Then we sack him..... The rest of his contract gives us time to grow and for the players to mature.... Which will help the next coach a better chance at success.... If we need the next coach....

Clarkson certainly has a reason to lie. If it was confirmed we approached last time, it would seem logical we'd go at him again if Neeld wasn't working out. Either way, he's covering himself.

Just like we can't find the tunnel that the light's meant to be at the end of - Neeld is holding a match, but it keeps burning out.

Feel better now you have regurgitated that, I can give you a story of a few kids who have re signed as members as well

You must be very confused if you think the Footy Dept (and the players) accepts losses

Mark Neeld is one of the lowest paid senior coaches, we don't have the money

Do you mean successful now, or are you willing to wait, only been eightteen months, which bit of starting again don't you get, or where you one of the posters happy with the squad we had of underachievers who are no longer at the Club

Most of our 'good' players have re signed, surprised?

Well yes I did feel better thank you for asking and its great other kids signed as members.

No I not confused at all about MFC accepting losses , have you ever listened to the coachs after game speakers? If not, I suggest you do.

That is the best news I have heard all week that he the lowest paid! But what does this mean he on between $300,000 to $500,000? If we paid him more then the base AFL salary for players then he over paid in my opinion.

OMG you want to wait another 18 months to see if he any good? I save the the time and agony of more records losses and tell you now, he not even a competent coach.

Well the MFC standard sfor good is not what it was so a good player for MFC may not be a good player in another club. But you did say most and not all.

But it great to see you still have the faith, I lost that when MFC lost to the Suns by 10 goals.
