After much adjective and hyperbole directly following game v Gold Coast I felt it necessary to post this fresh topic and would love to hear some more opinions.

While I've never been a Neeld fan and did vent on this forum post match, after listening to Neeld and Jones press conference I did feel better.

Neeld is learning the "top job" after a few seasons of playing Robin or Tombe the mist(Shintaro) at Magpies. Given this perhaps we must endure another year at least to see if he's any good.

Huge/massive recruiting blunders this year have contributed to why we are where we are. Rodan, Byrnes, Pederson, Sellar and yes...Dawes will all struggle at this level . Think of what 5 cleverly selected recruits would of done for us.

Types of the Ingerson, Icke, Wilson, Jackovich ilk are what was needed, even a Fevola ((current)surely would of been better than Sellar?

Our recruiting has been bad for years now. Not sure what hand Neeld had in 2013 recruits but he is responsible. Q is do we (or action Jackson) give him 2 more years to make good?

Was actually not bad on the weekend considering its his first AFL game since last year!

Looked lively round the CHF area and pin pointed some good passes into the 50, which could have resulted into goals if our forwards could kick.

He also made a contest with almost everything kicked to him, which most times was tough as the delivery was atrocious.

A lot of balls went sailing over his head too when he did all the right things leading out.

Once we have Clark there with him too it will make a huge difference. So don't judge him yet.

Hope so with Dawes. Must say the no 6 suits him and he looks fit. torn on Neeld. Half like him, he's positive and must have some footy nouse. The other half is my impatient side. One ofthe many long suffering.

Never have seen Melb play this bad and with the exception of Viney. Jones and Sylvia the rest didn't try

We've a long history of butchering CHFs. Was always torn on Bate but as a lead up HF he never stood a chance as we kicked over his head for 3 seasons. See the same challenge for Dawes

As I said on another thread, we need to play our cards right over the remainder of the year, in terms of how we deal with our coach and assistants. If we sack Neeld and co now, I'm not sure anyone would go near us, experienced coach or another rookie.

No good giving Neeld the sack, lets say he goes this week the same players will be playing against Richmond and beyond. Have a look at it positively it is the players and not the coaching staff etc that is causing us all grief. We have an experienced ex coach in the coaching group, surely he is ''guiding'' Neeld as this is what he was employed for.

On a player subject why aren't we playing Rodan, he is experienced, will give 110 percent and his experience which he was recruited for might just might flow on to younger players. He came on several weeks ago as the sub, picked up about 8 possessions in the last quarter and what happened the next week, he was dropped, hard to follow.

It's like nothing Neeld says can have any impact on the players, because they have frozen on some message he delivered too effectively at some point in the past. Psychologically frozen, no matter how much they want not to be.

This won't begin to get better until everyone who had a hand in the paralysing of the players is gone.

I don't think we have yet seen anything like what our players are capable of. Get them out from under the rubbish, and I suspect they will show some real hunger for the game, like a blind man given back his sight.

Remember Warren Dean? Ross Dillon was a star in poor Melbourne teams and Greg Parke not bad at all. Parky just couldn't kick straight but was almost as good a mark as Jeremy Howe. Jeremy could make a nice CHF.

Unless the new caretaker was a reputable coach? Of the Roos or Eade ilk. Both would attract interest of good mid tier players (100 gamers) reaching free agency at the end of the year.

Good call Bazza. Rodan should be playing. Who makes the calls?? Pederson should be in as well. We didn't recruit these guys to bolster Casey.

Good point Mono but whoever he may be it's a win win situation. New Coach would not give one crapper about the past. Push a fresh agenda with fresh ideas and possibly attract talented out of contract 23-28 yo's. Even Buddy will do!

Just came to mind Steven Icke, Anthony Ingerson, David Schwartz, Gary Lyon, Phil Carmen (just a bit), Brent Crosswell, Ross Dillon and Greg Parke....all stars in Poor teams...any more ??? Who did we butcher in Particular...the long history....
