No it doesn't. We get smashed on the clearances. Sure, Daisy is a great link man, but if you are not getting the ball out to the so-called spread players, it doesn't matter how talented your link man is.

I decided to check out his stats iva. In 2011, he had over 520 disposals, of which 220 were contested. In 2010 those stats were higher again. Even in an injury interrupted year last year, where he spent more time forward too, he still had 430 disposals, of which 180 were contested. But you know what is more impressive? He has laid more than 60 tackles every year since 2007, for a career average around 3 per game.

Not bad stats for a "link player" iva?

Just mentioned on SEN that Col Sylvia has been linked to Pies.

IMO could mean a trade with Daisy, but I reckon we'd be wanting a draft pick also.

lol

i think theyd be the ones asking for a draft pick considering Daisy is 3 years younger and a better player

Im sure Sylvia will be linked to plenty of teams before the seasons end, but i honestly hope he sticks with us and vica versa

Like Rivers this will probably be his last good contract and he wants some success.

I find it hard to believe he will be at the MFC in 2014.

You cannot trade for a free agent.

It goes like this he walks to who he wants to go to.

Nothing to the MFC.

So forget Sylvia in an attempt to get Daisy or anyone else.

I think it would be great to get Daisy and we should but he is not the so called 'A grader' that we need. Is he a hard at it midfielder who would inpire and mentor our young draftees? If he is the best we can get so be it but I think we would still need an 'A grade mid' who crashes into packs (congestion), good by foot and would be and inspiration and mentor to our youth. Even an ageing Chris Judd would look a saint in our midfield and be more use to than us he is to Carlton (they have lots of mids and he generally plays up forward). Daisy alone is just not the answer we need someone who can win their own ball but also be able to dispose of it (to compliment Jones).

Come on - Caro's isn't smug - it is just plain.........(I had better stop, one of the mods seems to actually like her).

I really rate Daisy (as my previous comments probably suggest) and I think he is an A grader but is just over shadowed in that outfit by Swan and Pendlebury who are two of the very best. I would love us to chase him and chase him hard.

I do agree however with your query around would he inspire/mentor our younger players. I don't know anything about him off the field honestly but it's a good point.

Instead of Judd, what are your thoughts on Simon Black? As from his effort as a sub for a quarter and last weeks first half against the bombers all I can say (and still say after 12 years of watching him) is WOW!!

There's no single answer. I doubt anyone is suggesting one midfielder is going to fix our woes. But if you don't think Thomas would be extremely valuable to our midfield you are kidding yourself.

FFS, watch him play. Don't be deceived by the tricks & flashy stuff. He works his arse off, loves a contest & has no fear of going into the thick of things

If we don't have a crack at him we'd be even more inept than the last several years have proven.

We need inside midfielders with grunt and pace. As good as Daisy's skills may be, he is not an inside mid and plays a sweeping role between the HB and HF arcs. Word is he won't play again this season, so he might now be chronically injury prone. Don't want to go down that path again.

There will be some kids up north who will be home sick. I would be looking more closely at them.

I agree, I think your right about the mids, but we also need that topline sweeper as well, off half back, maybe even more.

however I reckon Sheeds, & Malthjouse, will B Right into Daisies little shell like. I reckon Malthouse will try to bring in Daisy, & maybe, even trade gibbs.

Actually, don't think either trade will work... THEY'RE BOTH FREE AGENTS!

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
