Out:

Toumpas-- needs some time in the VFL to get his confidence up.

Jamar-- do I need to explain this?

Bail-- I assume he'll need to rest his head

In:

Gawn

Kent

McKenzie (if healthy. If not, Strauss)

I don't think we'll improve quickly if we keep making 5 changes a week. Gawn will provide some competitiveness that we just don't have with Jamar. If McKenzie is fit, he'll slot straight back into the side.

GWS is a good team for Kent to have his first AFL game against, given that they are also young and developing, and shouldn't beat us by 100+.

Disclaimer: These are the changes that I would like to see, not the changes I expect will be made.

FWIW Jamar in the Hun ranking was equal third for the team with 92 points. He had a team high 6 tackles for the day. He had more hit outs than Cox but Cox was way more effective. This would be a reflection of the quality of our midfield. This is further highligthed by an underdone (for a mid) Clark having to go in as a mid at times. I doubt very much that Jamar will be dropped from the team at this stage. Gawn is athletic, competitive and can pinch hit up forward. It may be tempting to bring him in the coming weeks to play relief ruck and forward he would be hard to match up playing forward. Jamar showed yesterday that relief forward is no longer his go. Pederson is at risk of losing his place. Hopefully McKenzie returns if not perhaps Kent may get a game. Toumpass needs some time at Casey.

I think we will only see 2 non compulsory changes for GWS. As Bail was able to come back on he should be right for nex week. He will improve as he gets more games.

Watts in and to the forward line- playing him in defence is like playing Neitz in defence - a big white flag. Get whoever are the fastest players we have at Casey in. Speed is a massive deficiency currently. Evans stood out at times yesteray simply because he is quick

More than that....he actually ran to space and delivered with surety.

He's a keeper.

Watts on Cameron? Cameron is out of form, Watts would allow him to take 12 marks.

If Watts comes back into this team without spending a single day working on his fatal flaws, then this footy department can get [censored].

Out: Jamar, Bail, Davey

In: Gawn, Kent, Blease (or Hogan in Troy Davis' jumper?)

Blease may not have completely earned a recall, but his pace will be usefull off the leash against an inexperienced side.

Would love to see Max Gawn get a run this week. I think Jimmy Magner has been extremely unlucky not to get a game yet despite his terrific form in the VFL. Sick of Frawley, needs a reality check in the 2s I think. Consistently getting beaten and always plays behind.

I think Daveys effort has significantly improved he just cant sustain it for extended periods.

Whilst I don't rate Jordie you have to wonder what Watson and Priddis stats may have looked like had he played the last 2 weeks. Toumpas needs some time at Casey to find form and confidence.

Gawn to play second ruck will offer a massive mismatch forward and reduces the pressure on a straight swap for Jamar. Sellar is not needed forward or back this week.

Watts to play third tall forward all game. Pederson not doing enough as a forward if not required as second ruck.

Magner isn't allowed to play because he's on the rookie list. We need a long term injury in order to upgrade him. Unfortunately, you can't put Jamar, Frawley or Gillies on the LTI list for 8-10 weeks with a bad case of lack of heart.

Id keep Jamar in this week. Only because Brogan is still there for GWS and Maxy cant ruck all day. Maybe drop Pederson for Gawn. Gawn can also play forward.

Toumpas needs to go back to the 2's and find some ball and confidence.

Sellar has to go.

I forgot about Jordie. he would be handy this week.

Would rather not make a lot of changes but it needs to be done - we have to reward the players who show commitment/aggression. I can't see Gawn rucking by himself so Jamar may have to stay in. As for Watts - cant bring him in this week or we have made no statement at all. If I was coach I would say it is time to make or break Watts - put him in Casey until he can string together at least two games where he shows GENUINE DESIRE and AGGRESSION!

Out:

Jamar

Toumpas (3 touches)

Pederson (8 touches)

Sellar (had no presence)

and anyone else who did not show commitment/aggression/confidence

In:

Gawn/Spencer (Gawn if fit)

Kent (earned a call up - provides run/carry)

Strauss (give him a go - would have liked him to show consistent form at Casey)

McKenzie (need his aggression/devotion)

Dunn (for Sellar if fit)

Out:* Pederson (completely ineffectual),

* Jamar, and never to play again. With a midfield as ratty as ours, there's just no value in having a tap ruckman who can't take a mark, get a kick or even make a contest. And he hasn't for 3 years. He's not AFL standard. If Neeld is true to the rebuild, just develop Gawn and Spencer from now.

* Toumpas (horribly lacking in confidence, poor kid).

In : Gawn, McKenzie, Kent (has run and mongrel). Sellar to share the ruck. Or Clark, cos he really gets bored down near the goals.

Would love to put Watts back in, but he wasn't given a chance to redeem himself, so I don't see how he can be reinstated. Very odd indeed.

Time for 2 rucks instead of rubbish back ups. Time for Strauss instread of garland. Mckenzie is one of our more pure mids and needs to play if available. Time for dean kent to have a run.

While the AFL world is staring at the bombers and their alleged dirty rotten drug cheating. Can't we just put Hogan in and say he is Dom barry or Strauss? No one will notice anyway.

OUT- Jamar, Toumpas, Pederson

Only keeping Sellar in as ruck backup for Gawn.

Really surprised people are calling for Davey to be dropped, wondering if you've all actually watched the game?!

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
