Billy Brownless interviewed him while for whatever reason the Jurassic Park song was playing. First question was what happened in the interview, what was said, how are you getting involved? He replied diplomatically with he'll get involved however he can and said something about the football department struggling that I'm too drunk to remember, and then the rest of the questions were about his time on the footy show and if the pie in the face was reaaally a set up. Gave him a blue footy show cap and then gave one to the rest of the panelists and that was it. Utter shite.

Jimmy was a great fundraiser, a tin rattler. He showed that with Reach and again with the MFC. And on the face of it, he was good for the club.

But he sent us down this bloody path...

• The botched appointments were on his clock.
• The botched sackings were on his clock.
• G Lyon was got involved on his clock.
• Tanking happened on his clock.
• The rot started on his clock and set in on his right hand man (Don's).

Sure Ox could play and sure he had ticker but come on!

So the new board should be made up of past players who were good footballers, but nonetheless part of the post '64 era of mediocrity? And again, were better at running around chasing a ball than running successful organisations.

By the way. G Lyon stood up and offered an opinion - we selected Neeld on his opinion alone. Look where that got us.

And McLardy signed off on Neeld knowing the recruiting process went something like this...

I take people seriously when they note concerns but don't leap to nefarious conclusions of fact that are anything but fact.

nope, if we want to change the Culture/Nature of the club, we need to change the image to one where

our young players can identify with.. so they can follow in this image, into battle...

thats why I want the Ox around the club, but not as CEO or President. he is a warrior, but best around the footy dept.

this is why I've suggested someone like a Micky Conlon, who has a somewhat he-man image, with smart business acumen. the club and players have played like parishioners for too long..

Its a field of battle we're trying to ready them for.

Your making an awful assumption there, that Neeld is the wrong man.. just on knee jerk reactions to a very bad start to the season doesn't pinpoint anything other than our team are too inexperienced, & we stuffed up the selection balance of the team for Rnd 1...

I said prior to the Rnd 1 game, we should sacrifice our newbies for the first game, & pick our most experienced & mature heads & bodies...

we could have added the bells & whistles, as we went along thru the early games, but we went too young & inexperienced, & not tough enough.... this is a bad selection process, maybe based more on selling memberships?

So.. club president... what is their job?

Represent the club to the media, clearly articulate our response to any and all issues as they arise. So in turn, they need to be alert enough to know what is going on at all levels of the club and humble enough to respond on behalf of the club, rather than on behalf of their own position.

Engage with (schmooze) club supporters, both pleb and patrician. Make sponsors feel important and appreciated, and encourage anyone with a public voice to use that voice generously when the club is a topic.

Engage with the haters, of which this club has so many, outside and in. Listen to their genuine issues, work hard to restore their confidence in the club's leadership, and where necessary identify and challenge people where they are just holding endless grudges (such as some people who, noted as not competent in their position, were given an unceremonious boot by Schwab and who have maintained ever since that everything Schwab does is some kind of anti-Mfc double-agent mission, or something).

Provide the key communication and information channel that maintains accountability measures. Keep it strong enough and visible enough that all staff, whether football or club, are confident that if they have an issue they can bring it up through the appropriate structures rather than having to engage in years-long campaigns of grumbling, white-anting and willful underperformance.

Well... I don't know.

But clearly not David Schwarz, who can do basically none of these things.

I think some have underestimated Ox in as far as his abilities but I would say no. Ox has been away from the club too long to take on such a role and I don't think it suits his personality.

Stynes was doing all right until he upped and died, and I'm sure that was just as inconvenient for him as it was for the Club.
