Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

What the hell has it got to do with Cameron Schwab.

Fair dinkum some of you that post on here are real idiots.

The fact is there is an extremely bad culture within the playing group.

I have no doubt the coaches and support staff are doing their best.

It is the players that need a rocket. Plus we all have to realise that most likely we do not have enough players to compete strongly at an AFL level. At the moment only have about 4 or 5 players that are competitive and the rest are just not god enough. The total utter lack of confidence does not help as well.

If we want to survive we need to ask for help from the AFL so we can eventually be a competitive team.

To Demon - Have you read Jim Stynes Book, because if not I suggest you should read it.

Remember Cameron Schwab was sacked in 2006 for the Salary Gap, which we lost draft picks, and we take him back.

Richmond and Fremantle were glad to see him go.

The AFL is already helping Melbourne.

I don't think there's a "bad culture". There just isn't any leaders. It's more "no" culture than "bad" culture. I don't believe there's any rogue element.

The players they've brought in aren't up to it and the players with real talent are too young. There's a massive chasm in the list.

I see only one solution. The coach has to go whether it's fair or not. There's just too much baggage. And kids that will have a crack need to be played, i.e. Kent, Tynan and Jetta. They need to go down the GWS path. GWS are getting hammered, but they're having a crack and the whole club is on the same page, because they're treading the same path. I know that GWS have top end talent, but I see no other way.

There has to be a benchmark and that means having a crack. Break it down to the lowest common denominator, i.e. tackles. We had 35 tackles compared to Essendon's 61. The Swans won a flag last year on the back of 110 tackles. You don't need to be a gun to tackle. You have to start somewhere and that's where I'd begin.

It's gone way past that mate, there is a bad culture at the club full stop.

is it his fault that players can't do simple skills like mark a ball, hit a target or pick the ball up off the ground?

It's his fault on a number of levels but one of them is that we have players who can't do simple skills.

Asl Freo fans waht they think of him.

As soon as he left their club they became a consistent finals team.

He held them back, and hes holding the MFC back.

Really?

I seem to recall that in between Schwab leaving the Dockers and last year when they made the finals under Ross Lyon, they also sacked a coach because he wasn't getting them up to being a consistent finals team.

The Board should personally pay out his new 3 year contract. Unbelievably stupid and irresponsible decision.

I only hope they had performance kpi's in his contract that allow them to exit him with minimum payout.

Schwab is as weak as pis$ and should have the balls to resign. The fish rots at the head.

Players mum on the phone at SEN now, devastated. Says management of the club has a lot to answer for, the poor lady was in tears and she barracks for Hawthorn. Said the players have been poorly treated.

Hmm thats interesting.....

Don't re-write history. I don't like Schwab but he was not responsible for creating the salary cap breach. It was there when he got here. Most clubs were doing it. Schwab failed to report it to the AFL. Gutnick on the other hand squealed directly to the AFL when he found out. Didn't go to the Board or speak to anyone within the club but went straight to the AFL hoping to get leniency.

Gutnick is the villain here IMO.

This is not a CEO problem,we have the worst list in the comp that plays with no confidence or heart.

From what we've been through the last 3 years,i think Schabby has done a good job with debt, sponsors etc.

There is something wrong with the players. It's as if someone has been shagging all their girlfriends. I don't mean that but something is stopping them from busting their ass and buying in. There has to be something behind the scenes going on.

Schwab is the prob. Worst thing was that the players tried really hard last night. Decimated by poor decisions from above. Schwab respknsible for Tanking Culture, Jnr Mac dismissal and the resultant leadership void, Green, Moloney, Rivers walkout, hiring hack Neeld who slashed the talent off the list.

"So long and thanks for Mitch Clark!"

All that is rational tells me that this is not a "CEO issue". But I think part of the problem is that while Cam Schwabb is indeed a fantastic financial manager of football clubs (this is evident), something is awry that correlates to poor on field success. Time to face the music...It doesn't feel right, but it's more than a CEO thing with Schwabb, who knows the details, but it's probably time for change at CEO and board level.

Yep there is and from the mouth of a well respected former player 'no player will buy in for the club until he (and in fact Connolly and Harrington) are moved on'. These guys are resented for their treatment of senior players and Bailey and whilst I generally think the players should just get on with the job there are too many things lining up that tell me what I was told is true...and so for the good of the club the changes must happen.

spot on...me too

They should BOTH go as they between them helped create this Mess along with a few others along the way.... We now do NOT have many AFL standard players !!! We will not come back from this for many more years if ever IF we do not change direction COMPLETELY .... NOW !!!

We need a Brian Cook type person in our club.

Pay em what ever but we need someone at the top to clean out EVERYTHING that they think needs to change and lead us in the right direction,

The first thing any new coach should do is appoint Clark and Jones as the leaders; no leadership group just two players. How in Gods name can you find a 9 man leadership group in that lot?

Tanking culture - I would suggest that many of us supported whatever it was we did in 2009 albeit with great reluctance believing it would benefit the club in the long run as it did with Hawthorn (Roughead & Franklin), Collingwood (Pendlebury & Thomas), Carlton (Murphy, Gibbs, Kreuzer & ultimately Judd) & Richmond (Cotchin) before us. You can go back further if you like. It could be fair to say that the club's now feeling the effects of the AFL's selection of us alone as the patsy that has something to do with our current malaise but it wasn't Schwab who precipitated that, allowed it to go 7 months or encouraged disaffected ex-employees to come forward with their stories.

Junior Mac was let go at 33 years of age. It was a match committee decision instigated by Dean Bailey. If there was a leadership void after that happened, the fault lay with poor recruiting and development from long before Schwab's return. Moloney was no leader - he confessed to having an alcohol problem after he was caught out having a night on the p1ss. As for Rivers - give us all a break but he was never going to be a leader.

I would add that in my view our current problems are not related to the talent on the list. We are every bit as talented as Port Adelaide and we beat Essendon last year. The problem lies with the attitude of the playing group and its interaction with the club and the coach. I'm not denying that some of that might involve their relationship with the board and/or the CEO and administration. None of us mere punters who follow the club can be entirely certain on that issue (and I won't accept hearsay on hearsay and glib little second hand anecdotes from dubious sources) but the answers need to be found swiftly and the matter needs to be dealt with decisively.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

    MAULED by Whispering Jack

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
