Problem is, Trenners is so 'not quick' he wouldn't catch any of those blokes and he doesn't find the pill as much as them.

He doesn't deserve a game, which is why he'll get one, it's the MFC way.

I hope I eat my words, I love the kid and want him to succeed, I just can't see him being more than average midfielder, rather than the gun midfielder we hoped to draft.

Either way, he'll make sweet FA difference to this weeks outcome.

I dont recall many people saying he was treacle slow in his first year. I wonder why. He finds the pill as much if not more than any of those players in their first 3 years of senior footy. Based on his Casey output he doesn't deserve a game based on the guarantee that he will lead in effort and ethic he does.

We were sorely tested for lacking leadership, X multiplied by newcomers, X multiplied by first gamers.

We are lacking a good culture, at the moment we don't have one much, after mostly shedding an old skin.

So the leadership question is a Major one right now. Trenners may come in, we need him, but the worst thing to do is to play players underdone.

Both Clarke & Trenners will be well underdone.

We need all oUr most experienced players in, + some speed at night @ the 'G'.... so Blease has to stay in.

Trengove is a genuine competitor like Grimes. Like Grimes, he is underdone because of injury. Remember back to his sling tackle on Dangerfield. This is a guy who can and will go hard at the footy! Tapscott on the other hand is finished for the MFC unless he performs soon! He will be delisted or traded without improvement!. There are a good 6-7 other players who will probably be looking for another club by the end of the year without some serious put in during matches and training.

No i wasnt aware he carried injury can you confirm that. Wheres your souce. Wowee if you think he had that much weight on to slow him right down i find that hard to believe. Trengove is not really a big midfielder also.

Not expecting miracles first up but he needs to start finding more of the footy to take that next step. His season high last year was 22 I think, that's painfully low for a starting mid. And a career high of 29. He doesn't seem to be a natural ball winner which is a concern, but he has other tricks that will get him through for now.

It was revealed by Dave Mission that Jack Trengove was carrying a calf problem for most of last year which is why he did not perform well in matches. He has just recovered from a hairline fracture in his foot, which he is apparently completely over now!

Jack Trengove is not there to be quick. He is there to tackle and to feed the ball into the forward line. Jack Viney, Jimmy Toumpas, Michael Evans, Rory Taggert and Dom Barry these are the kind of blokes who are our runners. Trengove should be there to compliment players like Jones and McKenzie whose job is to get their head over the ball, to tackle and to feed off the tap from the ruckman.

The point is that data means SFA if not applied in games as we have seen for both Watts and Trengove.

What I like about Viney is that although not naturally a speedster, he is quick over the first five metres, whereas Trengove is more of a slow burn and this isn't shown in the testing.

The people who think Trengove is quick (he isnt ) also seem to think for some stupid reason that Jetta is quick too.. Now i love the work ethic of both players, especially as they leave the opposition hurting after a tackle, but it doesnt change the very obvious fact that neither cover the ground rapidly.

No one is saying he is quick. Everyone is recognising he was treacle last year. What most are missing is that there was a marked difference in his movement last year compared to previous. An early video with Misson in the preseason admitted that he played heavy last year and would be trimmed back particularly through the legs. Trengove by his own admission focussed on defensive aspects rather than spread last which would also have affected that. Ignoring the fact it was known he had a calf I also think via observation of his movement and lack of kicking depth it was obvious he had something else going on.

I watched Trengove in the under 18's and he was top shelf.

I watched Trengove in his first two years and really liked what I saw. He showed all the makings of a player that would become one of the better midfielders in the competition.

I watched Trengove last year and he tried to play differently. He tried to bring a defensive side to his game. He lost initiative and started hunting the man and not the ball. I believe he'll start getting the right balance back this year.

Trengove wasn't considered slow when he was first drafted, but either way he's a smart footballer and it won't impede his value and contribution. We don't need him running down flanks breaking the lines. We need his ability to provide grunt in the middle and his nous, which he most definitely has.

Finally, this from Joel Selwood about himself:

"I'm not a pretty footballer. I'm slow, I don't kick it as well as the good kicks. I'm what you could say is an olden-day footballer in many ways."

Some are too concerned with Trengove's speed and have lost sight of the 17 year old that starred for Sturt in a preliminary final. We're so rapt up in the here and now that we don't even recall the class he showed in his first two years. If Trengove is good enough he's most definitely quick enough. I believe he'll be top shelf. I always have.

Trenners will in time get better the question is can we afford to take someone who is not fit, not in good form after our debacle last week. Is his leadership quality so much make up for the fact that he is probably going to have fewer touches than someone fitter. I would love to see him go out and have a big game, but chances are not good of that happening.

His performance in the VFL did not warrant a call up.

The runners performance in the VFL warranted a call up over the majority of our team last week. Probably underdone, but it can't really get any worse. Needs to play far as I'm concerned, it will help get him back up to the pace. If we were in form then in the VFL he should stay, but we aren't, so he won't.
