Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Time to go Mark Neeld

Yes - but it's a qualified yes. Neeld is a big part of the problem, but I'm not convinced he'd be a failure as a coach at a club that wasn't completely dysfunctional. I have some hope that the work he's done may bare fruit for whoever the next coach / admin may be. But for whatever reasons the Neeld plan hit an iceburg, and I can't see how we can come back from that without major change.

Almost thirty years ago it became a given in education that the teacher must find the way to successfully educate every student who comes into their class. This was not a welcome message for a lot of teachers, who felt entitled to have only the "best" classes, and only the "best" students in those classes. Has anybody ever been in a class where the teacher really only aimed at the "top" students? Or who bullied the ones who were not already succeeding? Ever experienced a teacher who used sarcasm and belittling?

If you are only any good with students who barely need a teacher, you are no teacher.

I'm interested to see what a coach who is good with young players struggling for confidence can do with our players. There are such coaches. I hope we get one of them. That's my hope.

The probablem is that we let GL choose the bloody coach again even though he chose DB.

Thought we could have learnt from our mistake the first time but I think it will be third time lucky TBF.

Fourth time. Lyon helped choose Rohdey for the Bulldogs in 2002.

He may have even bullied Hindenburg to appoint Hitler as chancellor of Germany in '33.

I have it on good authority that Neeld will be gone within the fortnight.

A fortnight? So potentially right after we play the Dogs and the Saints, two games in which we have a remote chance of being competitive. Are they really going to give him the sack if we put in decent showings against those sides? Of all the times to do it, that would be an odd choice. That said, if we get smashed by those sides, that puts the issue beyond any doubt, surely.

Nothing against you personally, but I'm pretty sick of these "Sack Watch" predictions coming from all corners. They've clearly all been wrong thus far. Even as someone who wants to see him go, this whole thing has taken on a morbid quality which I don't like.

He made it worse

Not sure I agree with that.

For instance, barring injury, we will have a bullet proof forward line next year. In 2011, I don't think our forward line was even VFL standard.

The midfield was ordinary in 2011. It still is. There are some green shoots there though - a much improved Nathan Jones (under Neeld) and Viney, Kent, Matt Jones and Toumpas all look to be solid mids going forward. Losing Moloney wreaks of poor management though.

In some respects our backline has never quite recovered since we lost Wellman as the backline coach, but I think Garland's improved under Neeld and that our backline is fundamentally sound. Terlich has been a good find - we still need another good running half bank flanker (like Pearce Hanley), but I don't think our backline any worse now than it was in 2011. Losing Rivers was a mistake though, as was recruiting Gillies IMO.

Overall though, I can't see how our list is worse now compared to 2011.

No, wish I did. That is info I was told, same person told me Greg Wells will be President. He wouldn't tell me the person they are speaking to re: coaching position. Time will tell if he is on the money.

Source: ex player.

Did he say if its an experienced one at least????

Garry getting it wrong hurts a bit. But it happens. I understand that even best practice recruiting gets it wrong. What hurts is how quickly he threw his arms up and distanced himself from the whole deal. That was a real rats leaving the ship moment. He could have admitted he screwed it up and I would have forgiven him in a heartbeat, but the game isn't like that, and hasn't been for a couple of years. How do we fix that when the big boys cut and run, or blame others, at the first sign of trouble?

I used to have so much respect for GL, that was until he hired two dud coaches ( three if I include the dogs) and then runs a mile when it goes pear shape. I'm not to blame it wasn't me I was just helping out.

I can not stand the guy(& i am being polite) due to recent events and am unable to watch any of his shows (not that that is a bad thing) or listen to his commentary

To me he is not a part of the solution and therefore irrelevant.

One thing though i bet he will have TIME when the dees start to win and play finals. Funny that.

I agree.

Wherever this rumour of 'he's gone within the month' started (Caro?), it's completely ridiculous and beggars belief.

If they want to sack him before the end of the season, why wait? They will not have said 'after the next two games he's gone'.

What may have happened, though, is that there may have been a decision along the lines of 'if we're not competitive against St Kilda and WB, then we're sacking him after the WB game'. Which would make a lot more sense than having made a decision already.

If we're as bad against St Kilda and WB as we were against Freo/Hawthorn/Collingwood, that would suggest Neeld is gone no matter what; those two clubs are not very good and no side should be beaten badly by them, especially since we have both games at the MCG, where neither side is any good. If we can muster up two competitive performances, Neeld will surely buy himself the time to see out the rest of the year - if we can compete with WB and St Kilda, then we can compete with GWS, Brisbane and WB (again), which is enough to get us to the end of the year.

MFC cannot afford to keep MN much longer because MFC runs the risk of both losing good players and not attracting good players at the end of the year, if they keep MN - it's fairly simple really!

for the big names like Clark and Dawes that have been added,N Jones aside, few others on the list in 2011 and still there have gone backwards or at best stagnated. thats where we are worse.

At the end of 2011, start of 2012, the MFC list had a lot of young potential combined with some good experienced players - the current list has suffered through the loss of some good players and the dubious recruitment of replacements - MN and Co. have a lot to answer for and their day of reckoning is fast approaching!

I have a gut feeling they'll go with Gary ayres.

God, I hope not. What a monumentally horrid decision that would be. He's a fricken VFL coach who could never get it done at AFL level. I'd prefer Craig to Ayres. At least he's coached at AFL level in the past five years. That would be a non-sensical appointment.

IMO neither Craig nor Ayres would be suitable and neither would even be considered given the current situation and who is actually controlling the future of MFC.

Really, if Leigh Matthews is interested, we do not need to look elsewhere.

He is the one. A real culture changer and premiersip winner.

He defined the playing attitude with the hawks.

He won collingwoods long awaited premiership with an avg team.

He turned Brisbane into arguably the greatest team in the modern era.

And best of all, he is smart enough to know when his time is up.

Let's get him. All he does is study footy. He is fresh and might really cherish opportunity.

No, we should actually canvass a number of candidates this time. Not just one or two. We have to hear what a number of potential coaches might provide our list. I'd be pushing really strongly for two or three though. Thoughtful and considered. Hardnut is right. I think the AFL will ensure we get the best coach available.

I am not in the business of speculating - I believe it will be a very considered decision by the powers concerned - there is no room for error anymore.

    TRAINING: Friday 19th April 2024

They are out for a run just as it starts raining. It didn't last long, ended up a reasonable session weather wise.  Light duties, BBB, rehab Farris-White, Melky, Salem and Spargo, all with private trainers. They are all playing soccer, huge amount of noise. 36-40 (difficult to get a count) in the main squad, biggest I've seen it in ages. Choco is barking out the orders. Goody has intense body language as he observes. Bowey in a lime green cap (no contact), and in the sim

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
