Loin Chop speaks

I don't really read into much of what Gary says.

He is just another player commenting on the club, just like Schwartz was on radio yesterday.

Lyon can comment all he likes, so long as he stays away from the club.

I don't think Gary is full of himself at all, I think he means well.

He probably just doesn't have as much of an idea as people make out that he has.

He hasn't coached at an elite level, other than International Rules.

Yet the public hold Lyon up like he is some sort of voice of reason at the MFC and we should defer to him for decisions.

He is really just as irrelevant as we all are, he has his job in the media and is just another disgruntled supporter.

But it's like Dermott being asked opinions on Hawthorn. It's going to happen.

G Lyon speaks about the MFC. His comments were similar to the Ox,

Personally i am happy to hear it.

Still waiting for the Presidents words.....

President has spoken. He is in NZ currently.

There is an article somewhere with it.

He basically said something needs to happen fast, and that it still is only round 1 etc.

He was sitting in front of me with his wife and kids, the eldest wanted to leave the youngest wanted to stay so they did.

He was scathing of the players, not out loud but loud enough for those right near him to hear.

You must have seats near me. He looked and sounded completely gutted and angry all day.

I also witnessed another member go toe to toe with Don McLardy late in the 4th qtr. it was an ugly day.

Lyon claims he loves the club, yet he would rather stick with his easy litrle media gigs where he gets paid to criticize others rather than put his balls on the line and help the MFC in an official capacity

Now that I would love to have seen, would have been the best entertainment of the day.

At least there was someone showing some heart and anger besides the very few on the field

Lyon is too loyal to his mates. Same as The OX. Love the OX much more than Gary. But am [censored] off with their comments. Their criticism is like coming from headless chooks. Flailing about like every other angry supporter that does not know why. But they do. No will or guts to spell out the real problem and name names.

so hang on - our president was overseas for round 1?

reread post 30 toe to toe with a supporter during the 4th quarter

The guy went on an expletive filled rant about how the admin and board needed to take responsibility for what happens on the field. He must of repeated the line, "that's a [censored] disgrace" whilst gesturing towards the ground 3-4 times during the whole rant.

Don gave as good as he got, without the expletives of course. It was interesting, they were literally centimetres apart. It made me wonder how many other presidents experienced such exchanges.

Brad Miller looked pretty despondent too. Still at least he has Pia.

Wilson asks if the tanking culture has damaged the club. Lyon didn't disagree.

Whiteboard Wednesday, base camp, the red and blue print, the report that never saw the light of day and the consequences for players that tried to stop CS reported meddling in the FD. All bad...

It's a poisoned chalice for Lyon to get involved in the club full-time.

Lets say he turned the club around (James Hird-esque), while those diehard MFC supporters, many of whom populate this forum and many like it and lets face it are currently in the minority of Dees fans, would laud Lyon because we see what we see and feel what we feel at the moment, and as it stands it will take a superhuman effort. Yet those Dees fans maybe more on the periphery of the supporter base and those in the wider football community would view Lyon as just meeting expectations and having achieved what he was sent there to do, not for the superhuman effort it currently is.

Now, if he didn't manage to pull off said turnaround, his standing in the media and currency as a "football analyst" is greatly diminished and he would be somewhat on the outer from his own club after going in to fix something that may, especially by his view of the culture and current board/administration structure, is not readily fixable.

No wonder he's called THE LONE WOLF.

Garry only stepped in to help when Jimmy was practically on his death bed. Even then he only begrudgingly did it to help out a mate- and even then it was only because he was asked, not because he saw it as his duty- being that this club made him who he is today.

He won't step in and be a savior of any kind. His life is cruisy now. Brayshaw shows how having a media career can work in conjunction with being a part of a board, Garry only gives a stuff for appearances. Deep down he doesn't care.

Someone call Schwartz. There is a man who cares and has been shun from the MFC for far too long.

Good call. To hear the passion, angst and desire to set things straight in Ox's voice on SEN on Sunday night when he called in is something which seems devoid from the public image of MFC at present.

Please correct me if I'm wrong (I hope I am), but I didn't hear Garry calling in to the MMM post-game analysis or even the North vs Collingwood pre-game where they were discussing the MFC vs Port match.

A couple of interesting things on FC tonight.

1) Lloyd pulling out some vision showing our lack of effort, and our pathetic 'zoning'. Disgraceful.

2) Lloyd pulling out some vision of Viney giving third/fourth efforts. The kid is a gun. Could not be more pleased with him.

3) Lloyd reiterating what some/many on here have been putting forward as a counter to the 'we've drafted poorly' argument: that we could have that many first round draft picks fail on us speaks not of the players we chose, but of the system we brought them into. Morton, Watts, Scully, Trengove, Gysberts, they were all highly rated and deserved to be picked where we picked them. Lloyd's argument is that they came to a club with sub-standard training, sub-standard development, sub-standard leadership, and were asked to be the saviours.

I can't believe people still want him to come back and run the club. He is instrumental in our off field woes and making sure the Boys club stays together regardless of what the players think of them.

THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the
