Couldn't agree more with MD.

Get the old Collingwood boys to start getting in his head and then have the club hit him with an offer he can't refuse along with leadership role etc etc.

That way he can pass on all that he has learn't at Collingwood to Viney, Toumpas and Jones. They have the speed and skills, just no leadership.

Not knocking anyone involved in the midfield at Melbourne, but better clubs absolutely crap all over us.

Neeld said in an interview late last year after trades were done that he thought we were one A grade midfielder short and they'd be looking to grab one at the end of this year. I thought at the time he was talking about Thomas, and nothing any party has said since has changed my mind. He would be a very nice pickup if we could land him.

Question..... Is Judd a free agent this year? If so.... Would we be interested..... Seems on the outer in blue country....

Thomas would be a good get..... But I can't see it happening.... Eddie might bomb aami park....lol... Judd would be a good second option.... But at this time of year, they both seem doubtful.....

judd pass.

IMO we should go after a 25 yr old elite Mid this year, not from the pies.

Next year have a real crack at Sidebottom.

* I'd also have a big bite this year at Carazzo in the F/A.

Need to be chasing Thomas and Lecras this year.

go after Carazzo & Lecras.

Carazzo has 3 in him & in that time some of our young star will be ready. great leadership, offer 3 Years & big $$$$ if he stays there some others may shakeout.

Lecras is 26, & he would be a great fit.

failing Carazzo..... go after Delsanto

... would have loved to gotten Jordan Lewis, ah well.

This is tough to write down, but I think if Daisy is going to switch clubs, it would be to the team of his former coach Carlton Blues

How many Copelands has he won?

Ablett will be uncontracted won't he? Lets also see who comes of age this season at GWS and the Suns ( and all other clubs). They could be worth picking off as well.

Would keep the 'powder dry' until we know what the best options are, decide and hit hard.

Besides this is a Collingwood bloke we are talking about.

I'm sure Daisy will be hearing from us through the year, but hopefully so will pretty much ANY other out of contract (or even 1% chance available) A-Grade midfielder between about 22-28.

From the comments made by Daisy on AFL GaneDay, Daisy may be looking for another club. Two specific comments that intrigued me.

- Daisy "My signature will go on a piece of paper at some point", the he was asked with which club, to which Daisy replied "Thats the question"...

- Darcy asked the question "1.5m for 4 years at GWS ", Daisy replied, "sounds profitable". Surely MFC can offer $375k a year or more for Daisy. Daisy also said it sounds good and quickly brushed off the question.

Read what you will from it, but the MFC should be looking at acquiring Daisy, with Flash maybe playing his last season with MFC & even Sylvia as a RFA, things may open up.... If both player do leave MFC should really go after both Daisy & the Frenchman... Then again, they would have known about the OOC quite a while back.

Oh boy, I'm excited. The thought of moving Sylvia on for a bloke who has talent but actually uses it on the regular sends me into a spin :) Daisy is absolutely essential to go after as well, as with any top flight mid going around that is even half a shot.

Hahaha ah RPFC, thanks as always for your brilliant posts.

I'm quite confident of jagging Daisy here. This is based on.... well.... absolutely nothing really. I believe Neeld had a close relationship both coaching wise and personal with the all the Collingwood boys which may be more appealing than playing under Bucks who simply lives and breathes footy.

Would be a fantastic get, fits the age bracket perfectly too.

Get around him

One of the reasons Daisy has developed so well and is now a star is that he has had several A-grade midfielders around him to share the load, Pendles, Swann and, to some extent, Ball, Beams, Sidebottom and Wellingham. This has given him space to use his freakish abilities and play his natural game. Given that Viney and Toumpas are arguably about 3 years from hitting their straps, would he be as good at MFC where we really only have Jones to support him?

Good point, though it wouldn't matter who we got they wouldn't have enough support. We just need to build that midfield up, really we need to try and get 2 "A-Graders" at the end of the year if we're to have any hope of a better midfield. I'm a firm believer we need one or two Daisy types, we've got more than enough meat and potato mids, we need some class.

Daisy has been linked to Malthouse and that's all they keep talking about. But the only thing holding him back is they don't have the dollars he wants.

He has also reported he wants Swan to go where ever he goes as well. Obviously these two have now both fallen out with Collingwood and want to remain best buddies at the same club.

If we have to lose Davey and Sylvia to make the room and keep these two together, then so be it.

With those two in the middle and Viney & Toumpas following suit, we are easily a top 8 side.

We do not need Franklin, nor do we need an injury prone midfielder like LeCras.

I think Thomas would be a great pickup - but I wouldn't chase him. Maguire is a powerful, irrational, vindictive force. We don't need him as an enemy. Many will say this is weak - I say it's prudent. We did a nice win-win trade for Dawes, that's the sort of dealing we want with Collingwood. We'll have a strong draft position again this year and should seek to trade in a decent experienced mid like we chased last year e.g. Mackay - we should have a pick in the early 20s. We'll probably have to grow our own stars and with Trengove, Viney and Toumpas coming through and a likley top 5 pick this year we have the opportunity.

Yeah because growing our own stars has worked over the last 10 years.

Tippy toeing around Eddie McGuire doesn't grow your team either.

So 11 years ago when Collingwood threw a million dollar contract at Shane Woewodin, we lost our best midfielder and had to accept it, but it can't work the other way because we are supposed to be scared of Eddie McGuire. That is about as sad as it gets, sorry.

We traded him out.

And we paid about $100k of the $500k he was on.

Collingwood didn't steal him, we pushed him out and paid them to take him.

You probably think dating the godfather's daughter is a good plan too.

Why should the godfathers daughter be single her whole life? Someone would have to do it. Well someone who has some balls anyway.

I couldn't care less about Eddie and his feelings. The pies have the same salary cap as us so they can't poach all our players. Snaring Thomas helps on field and off as well.

And I so didn't know the finer details about the trade with Woewodin. Thanks for clearing that up rpfc. I've been bitter ever since too.

But CFH knows what I'm talking about. This is why the likes of Kevin Sheedy is always so successful, he doesn't tippy toe around the big bad wolves of the game. He goes straight at him.

It works fine, just as long as you're not secretly on the payroll of the Godfather's enemies.

The longer free agency goes on the less sensitive clubs will become to losing players. You can see from the hawks with buddy that they are taking the line of what will be will be.that's a lot different to how Geelong went about it with Albett. The pies and other clubs will lose players but will gain players as well. If Eddie wants to sook he can shove it.

I have heard now from several sources that Daisy T. is our number one recruiting target. Whether it comes off or not remains to be seen but I'm all for it.

F...k Eddie McGuire.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
