Dees shopping for another Sponsor

Honestly, who knows? I remember we were continually fed the line that the footy club was looking for sponsorship with a Chinese connection, yet low and behold, when the EnergyWatch fiasco blew up in our face, only then did one CS reveal that we had absolutely nothing on the line.

Our recent success of attracting sponsors through our own means is rather poor. First we had Hankook with De La Rue, a long-time member, then came kaspersky which was brought about by a supporter telling his boss, we finally look to shake the hold with EnergyWatch (too good to be true), our final major sponsors webjet and opel, come on-board out of sympathy because of the situation we found ourselves in (and no doubt at a discounted rate).

Times are tough yes, but the likes of the filth would never need to look, because they have potential sponsors lining up (even Port Adelaide can nab one).

Why do we always find ourselves in the same position?

Perhaps prospective sponsors don't want to come to clubs with harping, critical, negative supporters like you

I doubt they came on board because of sympathy, businesses don't run that way and if they don't like what they get they move on; both re-signed.

Look I'm not the biggest fan CS has but he's the CEO and has been appointed for another 3 years so we have to get behind him, he has people that are supposed to look after all sponsorship deals and the like. He gets criticized if he micro manages and criticized if he doesn't, if the people he has in that department don't do the job he has to replace them.

They did put too much faith in the China connection and paid the price, it seems the Chinese don't always do what you expect they will.

So when John Poulakakis, our Chief Marketing Officer resigned last year, did the club replace him?

If Schwab had done his job we could afford to replace him. Before people jump down my throat for criticizing Schwab remember it's a large part of his job is to attract and keep good sponsors. All other clubs besides us have managed to do so. Advertising on page 70 odd of the Herald Sun is hardly proactive, it smacks of desperation. Who do we hope to attract with such an add? The Casey RSL?

Nice Frenchy, Mrs Robbie wants one of those.

Page 70 of the HS? That'll hit the big fish, potential sponsors right between the eyes.

How about a butt strip across the MFC shorts which reads "advertise here, call 1300BUTT"?

edit: I have no idea who you'll get if you are dumb enough to ring that number.

it was smack bang in the SPORTS section ...where do people suggest to put it...In cooking or home f'n improvement ??

Haven't we got one of the biggest network of businessmen of all Afl clubs???

Surely something could eventuate from that or are they sick of putting their hand in the pocket.

C.Schwab may have to ring Eddie, get him to drum up some more sponsors for us. Again.....

Lawl. News just in- football clubs advertises for sponsors in sport section of nationally distributed newspaper. More at 11.

The Hun is the most read paper in Australia.

Problem with large Ad in Sport Section calling for Sponsors???

No. Good idea.

Posted

So why haven't all clubs been doing this for years, if it works so good?

who cares what other clubs do.

Did any of them support us over the last 8 months??

No. We were left to burn alone.

Posted

So why haven't all clubs been doing this for years, if it works so good?

Gotcha. Never, ever, ever try anything new and only do things that you've seen all the other clubs do many times.

It's an ad FFS. If it works it's a great plan and if it doesn't it cost us almost nothing (or maybe nothing). Why the wrist slashing?

You think there won't have been calls made this morning along the lines of "why didn't we think of that?".

Nice work from CS and the boys. No stone unturned etc. etc. Proactive, especially in the wake of the tanking saga.

And how many of those other clubs won 4 games last year? And how many have had their brand dragged through the mud by the media for the the last 7 months? And how many have the same number of prime time blockbusters to promise potential sponsors?

If you are stating that it is Schwab's fault that sponsors haven;t been throwing money at us through this period ........... then every thinking supporter we have will be jumping down your throat - not just me!

Sounds like you've just had been a cup of lemon tea with Caro

I don't think it has much to do with being amateur or not ... more the perception of being needy.

and we all know the needy guy never gets the hot chick he is getting worked up over.....

Does Collingwood advertise for sponsors? probably not

Its just part of the popularity stakes that makes up the fabric of our modern game. no point complaining about...we know where we are at as a club

Will it make exisiting sponsors turn away? I doubt it. Will it make potential sponsors look away? Maybe, but then we don't want you anyway!

Posted

I don't mind it. What's the worst that could happen? We get a sponsor out of it. Wouldn't that suck. There may be a business who didn't know that a prestigious AFL club was searching for another sponsor. We on demonland know we are but a business may have seen webjet and Opel plastered all over us and thought we have enough sponsors.

If i could only do as well predicting lotto numbers

Guys, you don't get major sponsors via an ad in the paper.

But we are not looking for major sponsors. We are looking for second and third tier sponsors, and an ad aimed at smaller companies looking for exposure is quite normal.

And, just quietly, stop worrying about perception. It's superficial and it's fleeting.

Excuses make you feel better that our CEO can't attract sponsors

Pretty simple economics I would have thought. Revenue earned needs to be more than the cost of the ad. If the ad cost nothing (contra deal with the sponsor), how can it be in any way a bad idea? On the other hand, If we paid for the ad, I'd like to think we'd get a sponsorship from it that covers the cost of the ad and then some.

Could be worse. We could be Cronulla heading into a season without a key sponsor and possibly 14 players.

THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the
