NAB CUP 1: NORTH MELBOURNE AND RICHMOND

At the ground. 3 things stick out:

1. Umpires have forgotten that its not about them.

2. Why is Jesse Hogan not allowed to play this year? It's not helping his, or our, development.

3. We have ZERO midfield. The team plan is get the ball to Jones. Opposition sides have already figured out that's what we have to do.

Hoping the boys can make a more solid show, but this surface makes us look painfully slow.

Doesn't look good but all sides playing 2nd straight up have struggled plus it's a hot night so I won't write too much into it.

It being consistant with 2012 is worth reading into.

God lost first game, losing 2nd, players hurting ankles and supporters whinging about umpires already.

Gonna be a long season.

I'm remembering the NAB cup last year. Great win over the press then the same sinking feeling. I just haven't seen anything except Hogan to excite me. We don't look like we're a chance here.

Geez I hope I'm wrong. And Tom Mac is going to go OK

In both these games the opposition has killed us in the possession count...so no difference to last year...

We are fielding different players in this game to the first arent we? In the first game I liked Cam Pederson's marking, Rodan's strength in the midfield and ofcourse Jesse Hogan who has done more than any other forward so far. This game Watts looks ok but Im seeing too many turnovers and our defense looks crap underpressure. Same old same old from two or three players I wont mention yet. Most of the players that look impressive have started playing for the demons tonight!

On a side note off my criticism of umpiring - like the look of Byrnes in the first game and N Jones looks good coming in to 2013

Yep, I would like us to dominate the possession count for a change.

Can anyone watching the game tell us if we are doing the team things like shepherding and such?

We look awful but not worried as its not the real stuff

Dunny kicks the ball 70 m after a behind. Sylvia runs forward for us. 4 of then run back. Predictable outcome - ball* streams out of defense.

THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the
