Look, I have to say I'm astonished. The child like behaviour by so many adults on here is extraordinary. I'm genuinely amused. I only care about what the AFL decides. If they punish us I'll be mightily p1ssed off, as I can't see how they can prove any charge - not withstanding the fact that I haven't seen all of the evidence.

My position is simple (awaits the tryhards with such an opening):

1. We tanked

2. You shouldn't be able to prove it if all hold firm

I'll leave the legal debates on the definitions to the less emotional, i.e. no-one on here.

Many of us have taken umbrage at Caro's articles because her writings can carry so much weight. She can be very influential and is quite popular (unfortunately) People are drawn to what she writes. I'd hazard a guess that she is one the most read footy journalist in the land.(remembering that to read the Herald/Sun online will cost you a subscription of about $150 a year, so 'The Age' would have become quite popular 'online') Her articles often get 'Top billing'.

I can't stand her writings lately as she has gone down quite an unpleasant path. This morning's piece was just totally over the top and full of mistruths. Her current style is quite nasty and vindictive.

Journalists will often write what the people want to read so Caro 'feeds' the masses. She is treating our club as if we're expendable and the level of callousness is beyond the pale. What has been lacking since this investigation started has been balance in the media. Maybe we should have expected a lack of balance?

She wouldn't have any influence over the AFL but if she can influence the footy public's thinking, then that in turn could influence the AFL. There is a touch of the 'Populist' at AFL HQ's. They've been known to make decisions that could be termed 'Politically correct'. The AFL punishing our club could easily be viewed as a somewhat 'popular' decision (unfortunately).

Reckon the reason we have a delay in the decision is because they can't find a solution that suits all parties. I'm more than convinced that the AFL do not want any sort of court involvement. Also reckon that the club may have 'surprised' the AFL with the way we've come back at them.

Don McLardy's comments today were succinct and will carry a lot weight (especially if the media give his comments a good airing and in turn, have some favourable comments attached)

I'm much happier with Gillon McLachlan overseeing things but am still a little concerned about whether a sensible decision will eventuate. Clothier is still involved in the process and he may want to justify his involvement. I'm hoping wiser heads prevail and we can quickly put this saga behind us.

But this could have drastic consequences for the tanking investigation.

Who knows what has been said on the phone between involved parties who were investigated?

Not sure if this only relates to new surveillance, or if there is old footage and recordings that they may get access to, but it's something we should hope does not come to a head before the tanking investigation and any consequent legal proceedings are completed.

Wouldn't think so Jose. Even if they had a recording of CC sprouting "we made Sally Robbins look like Ron Barassi" they wouldn't be able to use it. Phone taps are for criminal offences. Onerous privacy laws would preclude them from including such info in their evidence

Fifty 5 and others have said that any negotiated settlement between the AFL and the MFC will also need the approval of any individuals charged (Schwab, Bailey and Connolly).

Its recognised that the negotiated settlement would be a waste of time if it scapegoats any one of them.

The first thing they would do would be to bring down MFC and the AFL and the integrity of the whole issue would be beyond repair.

But FWIW, I dont think Connolly needs to be glorified for his role at the Club. A dying Stynes took control of the FD from him in 2010. And the Club have moved him out of the FD in 2011 in preference for others. In the LT, he is hardly a must keep based on role performance.

I reckon this is the key to continuing negotiations

If the AFL has decided to base its case on the Richmond game - then it has go for Bailey under Reg 19. This puts Bailey's future as Adelaide Asst Coach in jeopardy - in fact his whole livelihood will be on the line. If the AFL refuse to accept his denials, he'll have no choice but to argue that he was only doing what he was asked to do ..... which will put Connolly ( and Schwab and the club) in the gun.

Bailey has to fight for the sake of his family ............. and that could drag things out even if CC,CS and the Club are happy to settle.

If there is a negotiated settlement then its in all parties interest that individuals potentially in the gun are not left hanging to dry. If one person is left a scapegoat then their frank admissions could blow what credibility the AFL and MFC have out the window. It's not paranoia, WYL, and I think it's far from baseless.

Cuddles may be a great bloke and a hard worker, but if he has said on numerous occasions in numerous forums that our aim for the year is to win less than a certain amount of games, then he is a fcuking idiot, and should take the blame for this whole saga if found guilty, given that I'm in no doubt that the Club will not be charged with tanking, and that Schwab is cleared.

I'm continually amazed at the amount of people saying "he said it as a joke, it's just others misunderstood it". Why did he say it at all? Why did he say it in multiple forums? Why not keep it between he, Schwab, Stynes and Bailey? This is my issue - we all knew what we had to do, we all knew what we wanted to achieve, we all knew what we were doing was a grey area, why not just STFU and let people do the job they know they are expected to do. Why tell groups of supporters/sponsors what the plan is? This is part of the reason that we are in the sh!t and all the others aren't.

I would be blown away if our legal team think CC will get off. I hope for his sake that they do, and that he is, and will happily apologise.
