We've just published wmth's great article MELBOURNE A VICTIM OF MEDIA LYNCH MOB in our articles and features column.

The article was first published here in draft form and the final version was accepted for publication on BACK PAGE LEAD)

You can also follow William on wmth's blog

We already have a thread on the tanking investigation but we do invite discussion specifically on the content of wjmt's article which we think is great.

Should apply for Wilson's job William, you run rings around her as far as research goes.

Keep it up. The world is in dire need of journalists who care, so that the FOX template can be challenged.

From the article, it appears there was absolutely no hint of the board, or anyone else for that matter, condoning the deliberate loss of games - except for this little journalistic titbit from Jon Pierik "....in a year the club was desperate to not win more than four matches and therefore secure the two top picks in the national draft." How does he know the MFC were desperate? The answer is he doesn't. It is an opion, and any devious slant he can put in a story about Melbourne, he will.

More innuendo and assumptions. It's what they call a 'filler' in this quiet time of year. AFL journos have got little to write about and it appears mr pierek has latched on to this, merely writing the same article differently every week.

...thanks for the kind comments re my article above. Cheers

The best researched, and most honest portrayal of the tanking fiasco that I have read ........ and I say that while trying to put my red and blue allegiance to one side for a moment. Great work wmth.

Nothing new here. At least we know one thing.

The leaks are not happenning. The media is rewriting the same news again and again.....

.................. or very possibly, there's nothing more to leak! Let's hope this misguided witch hunt draws to its inevitable conclusion early in February.

Awesome read mate! loved reading something from someone with a little bit of sense. I really think alot of these reporters are going to look quite silly when this tanking situation is over, fairly confident if the AFL had something that would hold up as evidence for a charge they would have done it weeks or months ago, i believe they may be looking to deal with MFC to work out an outcome in the best interests of both parties as they have realised they can't get out of this without looking like stupid kids on a witch hunt.

THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the
