Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

What questions are you going to ask at the AGM?

Will "The Age" be a gold sponsor again this year after Wilson and Pierik's efforts to destroy us?
Why on earth would you worry about the Age being a sponsor or not.

The question you should be asking is why are you employing morons?

AGM's strike me as public schmoozing and arse covering. I see little point asking anything. I assume that I'll be lied to or given a fluff response to any question. A good question might be around what understanding the board now has about governance issues given their experience leading up to 186 and what changes have been put in place since then...but what would they say? No-pne will actually admit making a mistake - even if they've learnt a lot and changed because of it.

I won't bother asking about footy stuff because there are other sources that are superior. Don already came out last year and said he had no idea why we were so bad. I wouldn't ask about admin stuff because I'd be swamped in jargon, avoidance or misinformation.

That's the spirit Tim.

My question would be about the need to appoint a Chief Executive of Football Operations, directly responsible to the Board. We desparately need someone with a recent track record of success in the AFL to take charge of the development of our football operations, someone to define what our policies related to football should be, someone to define what our football culture should be, someone to have overall responsibility for the appointment and development of all football staff (coaches, players, plus recruiting, fitness, physios, doctors, everyone involved in the football side of things), someone to deal with the AFL at a high level in all matters football.

Cameron Schwab has proven himself to be a good Chief Executive for the business and membership areas of the club, but not so for the football side - the results speak for themselves. Our biggest problem has been recruiting and developing the players on our list (as per Sydney Swans, that seem to be able to turn "ugly ducklings" from othe clubs into permiership players).

Free Cameron up to focus on business and membership, get better at it and bring more money into the Club, and find the right person to focus on football operations and long-term football development. It is not uncommon in business to have joint CEO's.

We may already have such a person, but he is not actually in that role - I am talking about Neil Craig - but he may be more valuable continuing at least for another year "on the ground" with a coach just entering into his second year as a senior coach. Someone like Paul Roos would be ideal. He is not be available for 2013, but he may be for 2013.

Finding a good CO that can handle all aspects of the club is very difficult - people like Brian Cook (Geelong) and Andrew Ireland (Sydney Swans) are exceptions to the rule. Collingwood have Gary Pert as CEO with Geoff Walsh as Director of Football.

Who is our "Geoff Walsh"?

Paul Roos? Seriously???

He hates the club.

Is the rumour true that the MFC will be having Banana sundaes avail from selected food vendors ( when there ever open !!) for season 2013 and that Bananas Australia (marketing group ) are coming on board as a golden sponsor. Or has this info just been bent out of shape ?

Cam will not be able to handle a curveball like that.

I just want to ask if the desk is ok ,if he needs some cash for a new house ,lawyers etc.

and i want to ask Don if Jimmy wanted us to lose matches after 25 years of busting his arse for this club or did we just lose because we knew Caro wanted a priority pick for the tiggers.

I think those questions will set me up for a huge crack at the Presidency one day and make me seem like a genius .

I have been to a lot of AGM's over the years and with the exception of the hawks amalgamation all I have been to have been fairly tame affairs.

This is especially true when there is no voting required to elected board members as is the case this year.

You are correct hoopla they will try and bury any questions on the tanking enquiry as they did last year with 186

However that does not mean that questions cannot be asked it will just mean they will try and claim they cannot answer in the current environment.

The trick is to think up a question that is connected to the subject but does not require an answer related to the inquiry's possible result.

Right now I do not know what that question might be but there is still three weeks to go.

Anyone have a bright idea?

You could ask how much have we spent on the Fink and what further expenditure we are likely to incur.

I'm more interested in sponsors and our image than pushing someone else's misguided and uninformed agenda.

I'd love to know how much of a profit we 'could have' made last year without all of the resource consuming monsters the club was either supporting, managing or negotiating. Fair chance it'll be another slim profit margin this year once all expenses are paid for. Maybe even a loss.

Q) With all of what is going on at the moment, do you see the MFC in the black at the conclusion of 2013?

Yep. Can you be more specific? I'm not having a go at you, I'm just interested to find out what you mean.

Aside from the financial detriment the club endured last year, IMO it would also be fair to say our human resources were tied up doing things outside of normal operations and that would have impacted our ability to make a better profit.

So the financial detriment you're talking of is the Energy Watch mess, and the outside things were maybe the Jurrah trials? I'm sure I'm missing other stuff, but keen to know. Appreciate your posts here and interested in your insights.

Yes, stuie. Right on both accounts and there are a couple of other things which were obviously unsettling but wouldn't have directly affected results.

Gotcha. Well both those things are dealt with from an MFC point of view now I guess, so the only thing I see challenging our income would be the effect the tanking affair has on both sponsorship and legal costs, and of course our commercially difficult draw. IMO we are better placed this year financially (barring unforseen mishaps), depending on onfield results. Would think it's a bit harsh to say we employ "morons" seeing as though those 2 issues were pretty extraordinary and not the fault of the MFC directly, and especially seeing how quickly we were able to get new sponsors on board.

I want to know some strategic matters.

When will Melbourne be Stand alone in the VFL?

They are being hurt by the scorpions tag and administration.

AAMI Park has good facilities that we share with Victory, Storm & Rebels.

But Gosch's Paddock is below standard for training.

What has been the latest development on the Docklands proposal?

Is there an adopted Master plan and time scale?

I think we need a home to call our own.

Since we won our last premiership 1964 we have been co tenants at the MCG.

Even our U19's couldn't train there except wed. night

they had to go to the Albert Ground.

Then came our famous move to the Junction oval, a very good playing surface but the changeroom and weights etc.. were pathetic.

Even now we are still disjointed with FD at AAMI and admin MCG.

It would be novel to have everyone under the one roof.

VFL alignment is an excellent question - not that they are likely to say anything

In terms of facilities, I'd like to know how we propose to deal with the need for closed sessions during the season moving forward. The separation of admin from the football dept isn't necessarily a bad thing!

Will "The Age" be a gold sponsor again this year after Wilson and Pierik's efforts to destroy us?

I reckon you'd get some cheers from the floor if you asked that one

You could ask how much have we spent on the Fink and what further expenditure we are likely to incur.

Fair question which they shouldn't try to avoid

VFL alignment.....answer...MFC are trying to build their supporter base in the South East, Casey will stay in the forseeable future

Closed sessions.....there are lots of other facilities available in Melbourne for 'closed' sessions, if it is 'CLOSED' obviously we won't advertise where it is

Opel built war machinery for the Nazis....so we don't want them as a sponsor?.....grow up

might i suggest that if you want the best chance of getting a meaningful answer that you email the club before hand stating that you will be asking the following question(s) at the agm and you would appreciate a frank and considered response at that time

doesn't guarantee you will get an answer or one devoid of spin but at least it gives you a better chance and the club to research an answer if needed

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P
