Email from Tom - Membership Mgmt - who also mentioned their phones were cooking this morning.

[******************** PS Trenners could u plse]

Hi Geoff

I can’t thank your team enough for all the work you’ve have all done recently

As you’re well aware we’ve had some amazing results, but I think last night’s effort takes the cake. 40 membership in tough times is a magnificent result.

Below I have listed some figures for you on what has come of all the hard work people are putting in. Please feel free to publish these as people, particularly the volunteers who are putting their hands up every week, should know how well they’ve done.

- Total membership sales 314 (46 in one night still the record)

- 2830 calls have been made over the 9 nights we’ve had.

- A total of $42,701 has been made over these 9 nights which is an amazing result

- 22 volunteers have come in over the course of the last few weeks, with a few yet to make their debut

As these figures suggest, the results have been incredible. Terrific, Tom.

OK I'm interested. Admittedly I'm a Carlton supporter, but bugger this. The overall strength of Victorian

Football means more (any essendon supporters on this thread feel free to walk away now you are the worst of the worst and have been for a long time). What are membership prices for MFC? If all I can offer is a low level membership, it's more than worth it.

I've known a lot of MFC supporters growing up (I'm 31). They are good people who don't deserve this. Jim Stynes presented to our year 12 class in 99. He is without doubt one of the most inspirational people I've ever met in my life.

Another interesting night with 2 new volunteers popping up.

A total of 15 volunteers - 4 better than yesterday.. Wow!! These dark times are creating some very positive response!!

Tx to the new volunteers in Andrew & Jason plus Cheryl, Geoff, Michael, Chelsea, Michael again, Anne, Daniel, Dave, Stephen, Peter, Judy & Trish.

With 22 sign ups we found the going very hard & I guess the CEO crisis was very distracting for our phoning targets. But what a revelationary week for our volunteer project.

My 'vision/dream' has been to get 15 volunteers in nightly & fill out the clubs 15 line phone system.
HOWEVER, at the risk of being greedy, I can now see the possibility of adding a few extras who have capped phone billing [like myself], booting up the volunteer per night numbers possible.
Is 100 sign ups per night possible? At $200 average per member we can have serious in put to the clubs future. Am I dreaming????

Volunteers attending is vital through April/May, but of comparible value is each of us finding one person who will pitch in.
We have had 24 faces turn up to volunteering this year. If this could be pushed up to 40+ attending volunteers, we become a serious player in building this club into the future.
The club will lose 'to many' thousand members from 2012, due to obvious circumstances, but this would be different if our crew could get to these lapsing members.

The term 'My Club" then takes on a very different feel. Geoff/19

PS Can u give me estimated availability Monday & Tuesday next week please. [email protected]

I was down at Sorrento with my family today (if you see the afl story Demons escape heat at Sorrento) my family were in the background. The best way for my four boys to keep the faith in the Dees in these tough times is to meet and talk with the players. I must say Jack Trengrove and Nathan Jones were really good with my boys but the stand out again was Jak Watts he was fantastic, kicking the ball with them and posing for photos, this is really good for morale. I know about all the negative talk and feeling and frustration, I feel it too. But to boo and turn our bakcs on our club at this point in time what does that achieve??

We are going again Monday & Tuesday.

All hands requested & so plse email [email protected] ..... & a post here stimulates others.

We are shifting the focus to chasing down 1) Those who we previously left messages for, and 2) Lapsed members who did not rejoin after 2011.

The 1) group will be the easier run so think what suits you & request accordingly.

I am going to lead the lapsed assault. C U there.

Django..... People arive up to 6.30pm, sso come when you can. [email protected] for entry details & memo 1300 DEMONS as a back up.

2 more new volunteers & the following from one of our growing crew.

We are on Monday & Tuesday 5.30pm - 8pm.

This eply came from Cheryl - who is a sports motivator.

I'm sorry but I can't make either Monday or Tuesday next week.

I'm a secondary teacher & so will be returning to school Monday/Tuesday including evenings.

Please keep me informed if there is anything doing in the following week when I might be able to help.

As I was walking to the training session today, Mark Neeld saw me & told a group of players that I was one of last Monday's telephone volunteers.

Nathan Jones came over to tell me how much the boys appreciated the telephone volunteers' efforts, so pass this on to the others.

Go Dees

Tx to the 3 fresh faces in John, James & Ann tonight. A total of 9 volunteers.

We tackled a couple of fresh areas & the lapsed members of 2011 had us struggling.

Good discipline was practiced by all & we left a lot of mesaages, so the staff should be buzzing this coming morning.

We go again tonight & have a fresh approach on tose lapsed (missed 2012) members. If we dont get them now they are gone!

We are now primarily focussed on lapsed (lost since 2011) ex-members, with still some second calls to 2012 members.

13 volunteers tonight with Michael, Dee, Trish, Peter, Judy, Steph, Julian, Geoff D, Dave, Daniel & Chelsea, plus Chelsea's Mum [Deb] made the trip into supply the crew with banana cake. A great turn out. A great spirit.

30 important sign ups of recovered members was a solid outcome.

Next week we have 2 fresh targets;

1) Is to welcome two new comers including Steve Grimes - it would nice to send a positive imoact down into the changing rooms, and

2) We are considering the club's offer to sell their raffle tickets. Not easy, but possibilities to be explored.
We WONT be offering them next week, but if anybody, or any group of bodies, could ante up & buy a $200 ticket PLEASE call the club next Monday night 6 - 8pm & ASK FOR A VOLUNTEER. Make this volunteers night & give me a sliver of hope ....please. Tx if u can consider. It will count as a membership on this night.

Congratulations to all for their wonderful work.....

I've been away from here for a long time & have watched the season with the same horror as everyone else, but the truly excellent membership campaign is a testament to those involved & to those signing up.

I for one am proud of the work being done!!!

Good stuff QC. We are a dartboard for any & all, but if you are lucky enough to be part of our volunteers response to adversity, you heart would beat true.

Our 'campaigner' group is now stronger than ever before & it continues to grow.

Phoning not your thing - a few of our volunteers would agree - but have bitten the bullet. Deb's response was to come in & feed the crew with banana cake. Love it.

We supporters are the owners of the club. Coaches, CEO's, staff & players inevitably come & go. Its ours!

Our little D2D group has blossomed under the current adversity.& we are poised on an opportunity.

With luck & smarts, by 2014 we could provide the club with 15 volunteers per night {only 15 out lines available] ongoing.

We are not designed to be the deep pockets group, but we could strive towards being an elite performance group with in the club.

Lets see.

Both nights will be focussed on the lapsed members of 2011 & before.

Even in these disrupted times the in bound membership calls have been above expectation.

A combination of supporters reacting to the adversity & our messages & efforts.

Lets put in 2 big nights & show the flag!!.

A good night.

Got another 27 members on board. Had Jack Grimes dad in there working the phones and getting more members on board. Lovely bloke and an understandably very proud father.

Also got a great message of encouragement for the volunteers by text from Jack.

Was pretty proud of myself tonight, had a good one, bringing in just under $1000 for the club.

    DEFUSE THE BOMBERS by Meggs

Last Saturday’s crushing loss to Fremantle, after being three goals ahead at three quarter time, should be motivation enough to bounce back for this very winnable Round 5 clash at Windy Hill. A first-time venue for the Melbourne AFLW team, this should be a familiar suburban, windy, footy environment for the players.   Essendon were brave and competitive last week against ladder leader Adelaide at Sturt’s home ground. A familiar name, Maddison Gay, was the Bombers best player with

    BLOW THE SIREN by Meggs

Fremantle hosted the Demons on a sunny 20-degree Saturdayafternoon winning the toss and electing to defend in the first quarter against the 3-goal breeze favouring the Parry Street end. There was method here, as this would give the comeback queens, the Dockers, last use of the breeze. The Melbourne Coach had promised an improved performance, and we did start better than previous weeks, winning the ball out of the middle, using the breeze advantage and connecting to the forwards.

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los

    HORE ON FIRE by Meggs

The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals. They brought tremendous forward half pressure, and our newly renovated defensive unit looked shaky.

    REMATCH by Meggs

The Mighty Demons take on the confident Cats this Saturday night at the recently completed $319 million redeveloped GMHBA Stadium, with the bounce of the ball at 7:15pm. Our last game of 2023 was an agonisingly close 5-point semi-final loss to Geelong, and we look forward to Melbourne turning the tables this week. Practice match form was scratchy for both teams with the Demons losing practice matches to Carlton and Port Adelaide, while the Cats beat Collingwood but then lost to Essendo
