Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

    Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

    Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

    We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

    However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

    The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

    Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

    We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

    WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

    Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Brief discussion only, some points of interest;

■ Question 1 asked to Neeld was about the Collingwood profit;

■ Much research (Craig / Mission) went into the decision to go to Darwin for Heat/Humidity training Vs High Altitude training;

■ Heat/Humidity training will be part of an ongoing preseason regime, must be 2-3year at least to get the benefits;

■ Was asked about the recovery time after the trip to Darwin, as players generally struggle the following week to play after such a trip. My favourite part of the whole interview was Neeld's response to this question "Everything is planned to 1cm of its life"

■ Boys in much better shape than this time last year;

■ Dawes to play deep in forward 50, mentioned Pedersen, Fitzy and Mitch as Forward/Ruck options.

That all sounds great except for the possibility of Mitch playing time in the ruck. I'd really hope it would be Jamar and Ped playing first and second; i think it would be a real and unnecessary risk putting Mitch in the ruck, he's a precious commodity in the forward 50.

My sentiments exactly. A power forward is such a rare commodity, especially in our recent history, and for one with any sort of dicky foot surely just let him play forward...as well we do have other ruck back up options.

Take a deep breath chaps it doesn't mean rucking throughout a game, but an x factor that can be thrown in, that is why Pedersen is there as well.......

and forget Clark as the power forward, it will be Dawes and Pedersen, Clark will have a roaming brief......

.he has shown what he can do, without a defender hanging all over him in the 50 , match up nightmare as he roams around.......... especially if we have another tall or two that need minding in the 50........listen to what Neeld is saying

I do agree, but he is the 2nd best ruckman at the club and more capable than any of the others of influencing a result around the ground.

If it was the matchwinning move on the QB I wouldn't complain, but I would hope that it wouldn't be his role week in week out.

As usual a nothing interview on SEN.

Imo Clark could quite easily become the best ruckman in the game. I too want him as a key forward, but I have no problem with him playing 20 mintes a game in the ruck, as he's very influential when he gets the opportunity.

The new ruck rules really favour the big athletes with a great vertical leap (so its entirely possible that Jamar will become less influential IMO).

I can see the second ruck getting increased workload next year so its crucial we have a big second ruckman.

In light of this, is Pederson big enough at only 193cm to share ruck duties?

No IMO. This remains the most perplexing recruitment decision of the off-season so I'll watch with interest.

Couldn't agree with Ben-Hur more.

He was hot property this year, being the only decent tall forward in the 50, but if we have Dawes, Peder and even Jamar/Fitz resting in the forward 50. I would love to see Clark run the Ruck for a spell. He can most certainly influence and change games. He done it many times at Brisbane.

Perplexing? Really?

Why does the back-up ruck have to be so effective in the ruck?

He spends the predomainant amount of his time doing something else...

The real question is whether we would be a better side with Clark forward/Pederson rucking or Clark rucking/Pederson forward when Jamar is off the ground. I could see benefit in using Clark in the centre bounces and then drifting forward to let Pederson take over around the ground.

think people are overrating Pederson a bit.

Last I heard was that he is struggling a tad at training. Not to mention not being able to get a game at NMFC

Olisik. Im almost certain that if you are ever positive it is one of the seven signs of the apocalypse.

Anyone got a podcast to it at all? Love hearing Neeld speak, he comes across like a true leader. He and Craigy both seem to have the polish required to be a leader of an AFL club...just compare to someone like Peter Rhode when he was in charge of the Doggies, Matty Primus or Bluey McKenna to get a feel for how it is done poorly.

He is probably the one sitting on the green horse, I could name the others on the white, red and black but would probably get myself banned....think he does it just to provoke a reaction

Agree...he could be a very successful goal kicking ruckman, moving from centre square to CHF .

With Dawes deep and Pederson floating around it gives us many options.

Whatever hurts the opposition most , and wins games.

He's the best ruckman at the club! The short stints he spent in the middle in 2012 (early in the season when our midfield was terrible) were easily the most productive periods for the midfield at the time. I think, especially with the new ruck rules, Mitch is easily superior to the Russian as a ruck.

Nobody seems to have Fitzy or Gawn in this equation especially when they are both substantially taller than Pederson?

A back-up ruck spends far more time NOT in the ruck.

It is far more important, with the game as 21 +1 sub and possibly 20 +2 subs in 2014, that they be useful elsewhere as well as competent in the ruck.

Let's be realistic guys unfortunately Mitch will be struggling fitness wise to hold down the position of a roamingCHF let alone perform stints in the ruck for some time this year. He is far too valuable with his accurate goal kicking to be running around attempting to keep up with a fitter ruck man. In fact I would early on consider Dawes CHF and Mitch FWD or even Pedersen to give him a chance to settle in to match fitness

Its called an opinion mate. You need to settle down!!

I think Pederson will be at best a fringe player. Bad recruiting decision imo.

Rest of the recruiting was good though.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

    The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

    MAULED by Whispering Jack

    The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
