Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

COMPETITION - $20 - Pick the MFC 22 Round 1 2013

So the "who am I" topic offered me a bit of inspiration.

Thus, I thought I'd start a little competition for some fun. As an incentive, I'll give in $20 to the winner.

Quite simply, name the 22 you believe will be playing round 1 in 2013. Will Toumpas or Viney get a gig? Will Taggert be there? What about Rodan, Byrnes or Pedersen? Will Mitch Clark make it back in time? Who's body will withstand the hard preseason?

Who can claim the bragging rights of being able to pick the 22?

Entries close December 15.

Rules:

  1. Only 1 entry per person.
  2. Name the 22 players.
  3. Indicate who you think will be on the the bench for the start of the game.
  4. Indicate who you think will be the sub.
  5. Melbourne's score for Round 1.

Determining the winner:

  1. The person with the most correct guesses of the 22.
  2. In the case of a tie, the person with the most correct guesses on the bench.
  3. In the case of a tie, the person who can guess the sub.
  4. If still no winner, the closest guess to Melbourne's score for round 1.

How to play:

Simply go to:

https://docs.google....U9qeXc6MQ#gid=0

And place your entry. Also, as I'm running the competition, I'll rule myself out. But I'll post my team on here before the close date. I'll also show stats on the most popular picked etc.

Good luck!

It is a good idea but why not make it $5 to enter and winner takes all 100 guesses and that's a cool 520 to the winner? Your game your choice off course!

Here's my team that I'm about to enter. There's usually a surprise for round 1, such as Tynan this year, or Weetra a couple of years back (the worst ever to pull on the red and blue?) but I'm not sure we'll see that in 2013.

Melbourne Demons:

B: 26 - Daniel Nicholson, 8 - James Frawley, 20 - Colin Garland

HB: 4 - Jack Watts, 25 - Tom McDonald, 14 - Lynden Dunn

C: 9 - Jack Trengove, 2 - Nathan Jones, 31 - Jack Grimes

HF: 38 - Jeremy Howe, 6 - Chris Dawes, 44 - Rohan Bail

F: 21 - Cameron Pedersen, 11 - Mitch Clark, 10 - Shannon Byrnes

R: 40 - Mark Jamar, 12 - Colin Sylvia, 13 - Jordie McKenzie

I: 5 - Jimmy Toumpas, 7 - Jack Viney, 17 - Sam Blease, (15 - David Rodan)

E: 39 - Neville Jetta, 30 - James Sellar, 35 - Luke Tapscott

and then with the leftovers...

Casey Scorpions

B: 46 - Dean Terlich, 27 - Tom Gillies, 41 - Troy Davis

HB: 19 - James Strauss, 30 - James Sellar , 28 - Joel Macdonald

C: 32 - Michael Evans, 22 - James Magner, 39 - Neville Jetta

HF: 23 - Josh Tynan, 48 - Jack Fitzpatrick, 35 - Luke Tapscott

F: 37 - Max Gawn, 1 - Jesse Hogan*, 36 - Aaron Davey

R: 42 - Jake Spencer, 47 - Tom Couch, 45 - Matt Jones

I: 33 - Dominic Barry, 34 - Dean Kent, 43 - Rory Taggert

by doing the second team, it's evident that our depth matches the outlay of the team pretty well now. Once the best 22 is selected, the remaining players make up a pretty balanced side.

It's also evident that we will have a pretty damn good Casey side next season if our players stay fit, and it will be tough for scorps players to get a game given we've bought in older, more mature players...

The only players I could imagine running around for Casey reserves are Barry, Kent, our 2 new rookies, and maybe but I hope not Flash... Hogan could I guess also depending on how he goes as a 17 year old...

*BUMP*

Some interesting selection choices so far!

Some of the observations:

Of the 8 teams submitted so far:

6 have Sellar in the 22.

3 have Rodan as the Sub.

Byrnes make an appearance in all 8

Clark has only made an appearance in 2 of the teams.

Don't forget to submit your team! Easy $20 for the winner for a bit of fun.

I'll submit my team on the board closer to the close date.

Pederson is a funny one as he could either start forward or back on the day. 50/50 chance, but great team

I have read that Blease isn't fit enough as is let alone playing wing and HFF, there goes your chance at $20

Also bit heavy down back?

HB: Dunn McDonald Watts

C: Grimes Jones Toumpas

HF: Sylvia Pederson Howe

F: Fitzpatrick Dawes Byrnes

R: Jamar McKenzie Viney

I/C: Blease Strauss Tapscott

Sub: Rodan

Don't think either Trengove or Clark will be match fit by then (hope I am wrong as I think Clark adds a dimension that adds a greater potency, versatility and difficulty to match up)

So have crunched the entries as I was overseas for the first 2 rounds.

8 people got 18 of the starting 22.

Of those 8, 2 people had 3 of the starting bench players.

Of those 2, none got the sub.

But the person that got closest to Melbourne's final score was.....

1982 All-Stars!

Congrats!

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

    GAMEDAY: Rd 07 vs Richmond

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

    OOZEE by The Oracle

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
