Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

One thing that concerns me about the various posters' possible best 22s is that they don't seem to differ greatly from the recent past. In almost every team put forward so far, the defence is unchanged from last season and most only have Toumpas as a new addition to the centre line. Most have Dawes, Pederson and Byrnes as new names among the forwards, but two of these three, i.e. Pederson and Byrnes, were unable to make the 22s of the clubs they came from and Dawes struggled last season, although we hope will have a better 2013. Viney features as a new player among the followers in most posts, and we generally have high hopes for him, but on the interchange many have Roden, another discard from his previous club, as the only new player. So, on this basis, I struggle to see where the improvement is going to come from. Admittedly some stronger bodies and seemingly better depth in the sqad, but many of the new names on the list don't feature in posters' best 22. Perhaps Neeld and co will prove more adventurous in their actual team selection when the time comes by going with more new names than posters have here, thus giving the 22 a different and newer look to it.

Aside from the fact that he has already had a long career, he was in the LG last year and would be near on the most versatile player at the club. Makes bad decisions but who doesn't? I think he will be better when we are better, same with Frawley, who had a worse year than Garland in my eyes.

I cannot take the stupid things he does, it really gets to me.

Personally, i really dislike Garland

my team, and then how the scorps would look... Pretty good looking scorps side I would think...

Melbourne Demons:

B: 26 - Daniel Nicholson, 8 - James Frawley, 20 - Colin Garland

HB: 4 - Jack Watts, 25 - Tom McDonald, 14 - Lynden Dunn

C: 9 - Jack Trengove, 2 - Nathan Jones, 31 - Jack Grimes

This is so speculative it's almost laughable as half our team has been chucked out and aint nobody got any clue how any of the new recruits will perform, and in saying that, here is my best 22

B. Terlich Frawley Garland

HB. Watts McDonald Grimes

C. Rodan Jones Trengove

HF. Howe Clark Pederson

F. Byrnes Dawes Blease

R. Jamar Viney McKenzie

Int. Kent Toumpas Nicholson

Sub. The perfect sub in my eyes would be the pedo, but we need him on field= so for the sake of the drill we'll just stick Bail there.

B: Bartram, Sheahan, Lawrence

HB: Bennell, Rivers, ?

C: Morton, ?, ?

HF: Williams, Cook, Bate,

F: Green, Jurrah, Petterd

Foll: Martin, Gysberts, Moloney

Int: TBC

Still a few spots to fill!

The Brad Green of a few years ago (pre captain) would be very handy. As would the pre injury Clinton Bartram!

And incidentally I reckon we'll see James Magner back in the team before we see some of the new boys!

Tapscott and Dunn thereabouts. Hopefully big Max breaks in. Need someone to own the line breaking half back posi, put Taggert in there but could be Strauss, Terlich, maybe Tynan or even Toumpas eventually. Also opted for Toumpas on the wing, not ready but again speed and skill needed.

Not the round 1 side

Garland doesn't seem to have time or composure with the bal, but I would keep him because of the huge pressure he has been under from the opposition. I am hoping his best years are still to come. Needs to sharpen up on his skills though.

GARLAND THINKS SLOWLY SO IS AWAYS UNDER SELF IMPOSED PRESSURE CANT HELP IT JUST THE WAY HE IS

i agree, but if thats how you feel, that doesnt justify selection for Melbourne or any AFL side.

As we are builing to something potentially big, it is important there are no duds in the team.

From what I saw today at training. Nate Jones is about as close to our first A grade Mid Fielder since Todd put on the famous No.12.

He has taken the game to the next step. He's running all the right angles and runs all day.

He has to be our Rover if there is such a position these days. Viney has to be his replacement, but still has a bit to learn.

That is one very decent looking seconds team..

I think we might actually have some pleasant selection dilemmas this year.

Couldnt agree moreJust spent some quiet time looking at the new list and high lights of new playersIts amazing how much we have changed simce last yearBigger stonger so differentI will not miss the cleared players one iota Thay all had the chance to gain a spotCan't wait for the new season to roll on but they must be fit and able to play out 4 quarters no matter how skilled or strong We could have won 4 or 5 more games this year if we were fitNo excuses nowThe list looks great IMO

Most replies have included some new blood which should add skill and strength to a team lacking both qualities this year. I believe the match committee will go with best fit for match day. Having said that our backline is short on height with both Garland and Frawley as last line of defense. Garland is not a strong body player for the bigger fwds to be encountered. I would run with this team to cover most situations.

Until we dont have to include non-performers like Davey, Tappy and Garland in our Best 22, we wont be climbing the ladder very far.

Garland and Tapscott have very few runs on the board in my opinion.

While watching one of the replays on Foxtel Mick Malthouse said of Garland. He seems very nervous when he has the ball. I agree, I think he lacks composure and coughs it up far to oftem.

Garland and Tapscott have very few runs on the board in my opinion.

I'm prepared to allow Tapscott more time, rather than write him off. I think he can be a big improver and have everything crossed he can get through the pre-season unhampered by interrupted injuries and get fit for the start of the season.

I don't have great confidence in Davey for our best 22 consistency wise, but he could be handy in a better side for us next year on occassions.

Garland is one of our important defenders and can play on different opponents for different sizes. Flexibility is a positive for the coach and if we're thin at all up forward he can be thrown forward as was the case in 2012.

Frawley and McDonald are our key backs, and whilst Garland is a handy defender he could be overtaken by defenders with more strings to their bow - but that remains to be seen.

    DEPTH CHARGE by Whispering Jack

The jubilation on the coach’s face as he danced a celebratory jig by the playing bench after the final siren sounded to record his team’s four-point victory over the Demons when the teams last met, said it all.    On that rainy Friday night at the Adelaide Oval, Ken Hinkley’s young midfield secured much more than four points on offer. The victory over one of the big dogs of the competition after a succession of wins over some of its lesser lights gave his team respect and validation fo

    HIBERNATING by KC from Casey

When they locked up the rooms for summer at the end of last year’s football season, the rooms gathered cobwebs, the atmosphere became dense and the place developed a sleepy feel. They opened up the rooms to let Casey out to play on Sunday but the team was still hibernating and they missed the bulk of the opening quarter. By the time they worked out it was game on, their opponents from Box Hill had accumulated five goals and, if the game wasn’t over, it might as well have been. For a se

A FORK IN THE HAWK by George on the Outer

For too long in the past, Demon fans became habitually sick and tired of watching the Hawks hand out thrashings to their side. But Melbourne’s empahtic 55-point win at the MCG on Saturday has truly put a fork in the Hawk and turned that history well and truly on its head. The Demons have now won nine of their last ten encounters with the other result, a draw.     And like a fork, it was the multi-pronged options that Melbourne had all across the ground.  It certainly helped that Hawthorn
