Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Getting Smashed on Trade Radio

I give us a B+. Key points for me;

* Moloney and Rivers gone. They were leaders when we needed a strong culture developed. They had the cnahce to step up, they didn't, and in actual fact, they allowed things like 186 to happen. The fact that we got a pick for the 2 of them was a bonu is my view. I don't care about losing experience, becuase it's their sort of experience this club can do without.

* We got a top 10 player for pick 26 (or whatever we have to pay for JV).

* Without knowing the guys personally, and going from what is reported, the recruiting of Byrnes, Rodan and Dawes are all professional trainers, handy footballers in their own right, are very precise with their perparation and will play the role the coach wants them to play. They won't create the culture - I think it's vital that Grimes, Trengove, Jones and Watts do that, but they will support it immediately, and help build it. The 2 players in point 1 above wouldn't do that.

* We still have Pick 4.

* Gysberts is gone. I wasn't a fan, so I'm satisfied with this decision.

* Jury is obviously out on Hogan and Barry. If Hogan is a star, this year's trade period increases to an A, if he isn't, then we will drop to a C.

I was happy with our performance until today. Giving up Gysberts and especially Morton for SFA is disappointing. I am confident both will perform better under the right development framework. I am also concerned Neeld is not prepared to invest any time to develop kids properly. Mature players from good cultures is a sensible strategy but too many mid-age NQRs will not a flag team make.

This is not intended to be the team that will win a flag. This is laying the foundations upon which to build long term success. We need to have some vision and look past next year.

The only C's are those purporting to be experts on the Radio.

Blowhards at best irrelevant ignoramuses at worst.

They have Comprehensively failed to see the big picture or understand our goals.

Everything youd expect of them.

Self serving idiots !!!!

Barrett uses the term "scatter gun approach" to describe anything more complex than Goddard to Dons. A simpleton who believes his own dribble.

We have lost Morton (9 games), Gysberts (1 game), Moloney (15 games), Green (13 games) and a backmen in Rivers who played most of the year forward. None of these are starting 18 players nor would they be next year.

We have gained two elite kids (Hogan for next year) and have pick 4 to attain another, a premiership CHF whose not even at his peak, another key swingman who is proven to impact at AFL level and two mature bodied soldiers with speed that cost us next to nothing. If we can get a mid 30s pick for Martin and attain Jacobs in the PSD we will be significantly ahead.

Oh wait but we could have done nothing and loaded up all on kids because that has worked so well so far.

If anyone thinks we haven't done well they know nothing about footy.

Spot on the media always look short term and never see the big picture.....

I am happy with our moves so far - as like everyone I am disappointed about Gys but I am happy a bloke who wants to play at the MFC in Pederson is now on our list as we lack decent KPP's rather than mids.

The media love putting in the boot - no one is bagging Richmonds pick ups other club's NQRs

This trade period will make or break Neeld.

He is doing whatever he wants and that's his right. If it works, great. But if it doesn't, he becomes one more coach to totally [censored] us and our list.

So in your opinion this isn't what happened with Bailey?

After all 186 was awesome!! It's refreshing to see a coach come in to this club and have some balls to cut blokes who aren't up to his standard.... And Neeld has actually coached finals sides in the AFL and other comps

I've said for a while now Jaded that Neeld will be a history making coach. He will either be our next premiership coach, or he will be the last coach of the Melbourne Football Club. I don't think there's anywhere in between.

I hope it's the former.

Can't see this happening. Davey and possibly Martin are the only likely delisting next year. All other players coming out of contract i.e Watts, Sylvia, Grimes, Taggert, Gawn, Tynan, and Fitzpatrick are "must keeps" at this stage.

Very little room to move next year. Most players are coming out of contract in 2014.

No-one is a "must keep" at the MFC now unless they perform. I think the past 24 hours have confirmed that.

For me, it's not about who we lost, because except for Rivers (who we wanted to keep), the rest are average players at best.

It's what we got in return which I question.

I think this is pretty right.

IMO we hit a few nails that needed to be hit.

Key forwards - Hogan, Dawes and Pedro (who can play back too)

Small forward types - Byrnes, Rodan

Mids - Viney and pick 4 both top 5 types imo

Leadership - Dawes, Byrnes specifically even Rodan

Hardness - Viney, Hogan looks physical, Dawes is physical beast ect

If we came away with all this at the start of trade period i dont think there would be many complaints just how it happened after we got Viney as a bargain in a long deal.

Also Moloney is not a loss imo, Rivers is and Gysberts and Morton have potential, i like them both but we will see

We've lost a couple of slow old guys, a couple of softies and one seemingly soft of the mind.

We've gained a couple of quick old guys, young KPF's = structure. + Viney and Barry.

I give it an A. I don't care what we gave up to get what we want, we got what we needed.

Scattergun? At least it's not Barry the sniper Prendagast picking off his own men.

The list needed to be shaken up, the culture needs changing, the club and Neeld have started it, I believe it'll work.

We'll get in blokes who actually want to play winning footy at the MFC - don't get caught up with draft pick numbers.

The AFL 'journo's' need to chill out, go on holiday and come back for the NAB Cup where they can be relevant again. I hate this drawn out trade/draft period and these smug journos who preach to the masses about the way things should be done.

Having said that, Neeld isn't shying away from media attention. We haven't exactly slid under the radar with the sort of deals we've been doing!

I've been listening to TWR since the start of the trade period. In summary we have been slammed by Barret since the start, and after all the bs opinionated tripe he dished up this year, its clear he has an issue with the MFC - hack journo and a [censored] to boot.

We shouldn't waste our breath our Terry Wallace. Apart from blaming the tigers woes under him due to lack of resources, he also claimed partial credit for their resurgent midfield today. Yesterday, after analysing West Coasts list he said the eagles don't have a ruck after Cox and NicNat, to which a caller pointed out Scott Lycett, he then rambled about how he's more of a forward. In short, the blokes opinion matters very little to me.

What I'm curious about is why, as a club trying to become competitive, we are continously beaten down by these irrelevant muppets.

As for all the people on here complaining about our draft period just think about the players regardless of draft picks-

IN

Rodan: Senior body, who fills a role for 1-2 years while the younger blokes develop. Win if he stays on the park.

Pedo: Similar age to Martin but offers much more. I assume him and sellar will compete for the same spot, thus creating depth.

Byrnes: Crying out for even a pass rate small forward this year, he's no star but will fill a gaping void for 1-2 years.

Dawes: Straightens our spine, huge win

Hogan: Looks the goods, fantastic prospect who has the rig to provide a contest from 2014.

Barry: Prospect, doubt he will play next year, thats why the acquisition of a guy like Rodan was important.

Viney: Gun attack on the footy, great attitude, mature body

Wines/Toumpas/O'Rourke: If wines or toumpas will inject quality from next year, O'Rourke has big upside but will not play much next year.

OUT

Morton: has shown next to nothing after 70 odd games which is ample time to develop on your shortcomings, has terrible disposal especially on the run that has hurt us numerous times, soft, ran away from lade which I will never forgive him for.

Gysberts: Inside midfielder who probably couldn't bench press 75% of his bodyweight and after many years has not improved his upper body strength at all which points to a terrible attitude, can't break into the 3rd worse team in the league.

Martin: Key word here is promise. Has promised for years but delivered one decent season. Poor decision making and should be influencing games more than he is at his age.

Cook (potential out): Drafted as a forward but without critical skills needed to play his role e.g. lacks pace off the mark, doesn't influence the contest nearly enough and has not come on like he should have in 2 years.

Moloney: Flat track bully. Jones does his job far better.

Rivers: The only one I'm dissapointed with, however, big questions over his knees. The inclusion of Pederson might soften the blow.

Hardwick cleaned out Richmonds list over a few years, the same is happening to us - I just don't see why people are complaining, mediocrity is not fun, nor is getting belted every week. The mature bodies like Rodan & Byrnes won't be around by the time we make finals, but they will mean we are more competitive in the interim while our young list develops.

    TRAINING: Friday 19th April 2024

They are out for a run just as it starts raining. It didn't last long, ended up a reasonable session weather wise.  Light duties, BBB, rehab Farris-White, Melky, Salem and Spargo, all with private trainers. They are all playing soccer, huge amount of noise. 36-40 (difficult to get a count) in the main squad, biggest I've seen it in ages. Choco is barking out the orders. Goody has intense body language as he observes. Bowey in a lime green cap (no contact), and in the sim

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
