Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

FAREWELL JORDAN GYSBERTS

So we trade a young midfielder with obvious talent and a knack of finding the footy for a tall player who couldn't get a game at North when we have just spent big money on a key forward from Collingwood, swapped pick 3 for the best 17-year-old key forward in the country and currently have one of the worst midfields in the competition.

I think Pederson can play but this is an absolutely astonishing short-sighted piece of business.

Gysberts played 1 seniors game (9 disposals) and 14 Casey games in 2012.

He was unable to break into one of the worst teams going around this year... being picked with an early pick gets you only so far.

Maybe because he was injured?

Based on that theory Lenny Hayes was unable to break into the Saints last year either.

So based on one game you are going to say that Gysberts was going to be a gun player. He had talent, but talent isn't enough to survive anymore. Don't you recall what Brad Green said in one of his interviews after he retired....it was along the lines of "some guys can't rely on getting games on talent alone any more. They need to buy in to what the club is doing!"

We have lived in the land of "what could be" long enough.

I'm just curious, are you saying that you would prefer to keep gysberts for depth reasons, rather than have a guy come in who could be in our starting 22???

You really aren't getting it. It was never going to be pick 4 (whoever it is) OR Gysberts on the list.

Once again, if we were that pushed for list space you don't go out and recruit a VFL swingman, a bloke who has been discarded from two clubs and has had more knee recons than haircuts, and a bloke that played his best footy 5 years ago (but its alright because he comes from a "successful" club, even though he couldn't get a game with said club).

Now we just need Farren bloody Ray for this to be an absolute disaster.

I would call it a quick fix but I doubt anything will be fixed considering the calibre of player we have gone after.

"Satterley coached Pedersen at Werribee last season and is seen as a big factor in the swingman lobbing at the Dees."

Is it me or am I seeing a trend of MFC coaches recruiting past players that they have worked with.

Not happy at all. I rated Gys. and he has got a raw deal with this. the guy was injured this year. and he has been sacrificed for a spud.

pederson played 2 games this year and is not needed position wise.

grumble

That makes Pederson twice as good as Gys

Yep, a Barry Prendergast special. He rated him as the 4th best mid of that draft!

Cook gone, Morton gone, Gysberts gone. MN & co are getting rid of a lot of Bailey and Prendergast's work. Our re-build has been an almighty failure. We may well be down the bottom for quite a few more years to come.

sad but true.

Although if our new players have the right attitude we will climb.

Next year we draft more 1-3 year players in F/A

Melbourne Midfield 2013:

Jones, Trengove, McKensie, Viney, Grimes, Blease, Magner, Nicholson, Bail, Sylvia, Davey, Tapscott, Howe

I would say that Gysberts is behind all of those listed above...

+ we have Tynan, Jetta, Taggert, pick 4

This is not the worst trade we've done...

As they say "You've gotta break eggs to make an Omelette".

We wanted Pedersen for our structure, roles and game plan, and Gysberts was languishing...

Correct on all counts.

Jordan Gysberts was/ is a great coachable young fellow. He has had some shocking injuries and the only thing he lacks which was not instilled into him last year was CONFIDENCE!

He doesn't lack a tank he lacks confidence.

I'll spew everytime he plays well and he will at Kangas I'll put money on it.

I certainly hope Neeld knows what he is doing because his quick fix would want to work immediately.

If Not???!!

but the coach wanted him out so obviously he was not coachable.

3 years at the club without any consistent, meaningful runs of form. Not a big strong guy, not particularly fit, or fast, not the best kick at the club. Pick 11 is just a number now. Hopefully time at the Dees have changed and the players have t perform to earn another contract.

Surely the other non performers ie. Petterd, Bate, Dunn, Bennell etc, etc have a nervous wait til the list is finalised. Hopefully the new and recent draftees are held to higher standards.

I don't really get Rodan?

Go Dees

Probably my most pleasing trade of the draft period.

Finally we agree BH! It's been a long season, but it had to happen sooner or later!

The amount of shite I copped over the past couple of years re JG was amazing. I had my doubts from long ago (about JG), and today has just confirmed that sometimes I do know what I'm talking about!

Root and branch.

What is this business about Gysberts being injured by the way? He still managed 14 games for Casey. Enough i would have thought to make a compelling case for senior selection (like for instance Nicho did when coming back from an injury). How players respond to injury (eg focus on rehab etc) gives a FD a great deal of insight into a player i reckon. Not suggesting Gysberts didn't respnd well just that even an injury gives a player a chance to impress a coach (again Nicho being an example).

Out of interest how did he go in the Casey b&f? I had a look at the web site and couldn't see a list. Didn't finish top 3 though (Couch, Tynan and Fitzpatrick).

By the by Troy Davis won the Respect Earner Award. This is why there is no talk about us cutting him. If Gysberts had won that award we wouldn't be trading him. Full stop.

Root and branch.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

    MAULED by Whispering Jack

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
