At least 4 clubs are trying to trade for Martin (I have heard they are -StK, PA, NM, GWS). No-one's chasing Jamar.

So if either is traded - who'll it be?

If you could package another player or two and get 13 from GWS that would be great. Otherwise you would go to Saints and hope to get Ray and a pick for Pederson for North.

Jamar can ruck. Much better than Martin. So can Spencer. Gawn will probably end up being better than all of them. Martin is a so so ruckman that is rubbish elsewhere. I hope he gets a chance to move

Thanks for that. In case you weren't sure, this thread is in relation to the primary ruck.

It's a side point that is pretty important and overlooked by a great deal of people.

Your second ruck should be a forward that can ruck not the other way around.

And it effects this argument for Martin as 1st ruck greatly as he isn't the first ruck and that is why he is on the trade block.

Jamar has got to add variation to his centre bounce ruck work.

All he does is tap it down to the ground at his feet.

The opposition mids just sit on our mids and take the ball away.

How many hitouts to advantage do you see?....... A lot.

But how many clearances?..... Little.

No it doesn't. No effect at all.

The point is that the new rule changes will help ruckmen with the better leap, that being Martin.

You say that like it is a fact.

You don't know how it will work in a game.

I think the importance of not being allowed to wrestle until the ball is in the air is overstated.

If you want to jump and punch the ball, you better not jump when the ball is being thrown up - you have to wait until gravity does its work before you can actually tap the bloody thing.

It is a fact.

The fact being that the OP was an opinion on what will happen to the position of first ruck under the new rules. The fact is my opinion is it will lead to Martin being a better first ruck (notice the word first).

It has nothing to do with the second ruck, so while you may love to make out like you know everything about football, master English first

If we were going to shop anyone I'd rather it be Spencer. I have never seen a less skilled AFL player in my life. He literally cannot kick the football. Not that he is a bad kick - he CAN'T kick. Amazed someone like that made it to an AFL list and has managed to stay on one for so long.

We all want to get value out of our NQRs but it just won't happen.

Stef Martin has a superb leap

Jamar has the physical body one on one and match it with the big guys...

So I say dont trade any of them.

With the new rules no contact in the ruck...Stef Martin will be the man to leap all over it ala Jeff White.

Jamar will be used to crash some packs and hurt bean pole rucks from the opposition.

Just my take...

But I believe superior leap type ruckmen will now be in demand and not so much the physical type with the no grappling rules.

Lets see how it affects trade week from now on...

Martin has suddenly become much much more valuable. He has a good leap and is a better endurance athlete than Jamar. The Natanui rule will favour Martin to a massive extent, such that I reckon he'd probably displace Jamar as number one ruck this year - unless one of Gawn or Spencil beat him to it.

These new ruck rules disgust me, can't believe they have been introduced as they are unnecessary with the ball up replacing the bounce, but like White before him, they will kill Jamar. Martin must stay.

Jamar will still have role to play tho.

I agree completely but some seem to rate him as a prospect. Can't see it myself.

Yes some people really seemed to go overboard when he played his first passable game in the seniors this year. I see him as a genuine list clogger but I do hope he can turn it up a few notches next year and prove me wrong.

Agree Chippy. I have been saying that for months. Jamar gets tap out and it is a ballup.

Jamar is the man. He'll have recovered from his injury by the time pre season comes around and he'll be back to his best, which is very good. Trengove, Magner, Viney, Jones and Co will become the elite midfielders in the comp thanks to the supply from the big russian! Stef fits in as a forward and relieving ruck which he plays both pretty well when fit!

    Fremantle hosted the Demons on a sunny 20-degree Saturdayafternoon winning the toss and electing to defend in the first quarter against the 3-goal breeze favouring the Parry Street end. There was method here, as this would give the comeback queens, the Dockers, last use of the breeze.     With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals.     The Mighty Demons take on the confident Cats this Saturday night at the recently completed $319 million redeveloped GMHBA Stadium, with the bounce of the ball at 7:15pm.
