Surely one cannot really comment until one sees the final list, but IMO the best news would be that we have enough stocks the Clark (and assuming he does make a full recovery) will rarely if ever have to be taken from his forward role to do ruck work.

Spencer & Petterd too Gold Coast. GC look like losing two rucks.

Hayden Jolly GC too Port

Matt Thomas PORT too Melbourne

If Jamar is worth a first round pick I would pass him on. Collingwood Pick 17 or Dawes?

Or

Pick 4 & Jamar too GWS for Pick 3 & Jed Anderson. Aslong as they pass on Grundy for us too select! I know I will get shot down for using our live pick on Grundy and not a mid. Will not happen! I'm

'Too' will get them too that place alot quicker! 'To' not so quick! Ha Ha!

Annoying is it?

Jeff White was a spaz! Over rated big time!

Could have been so much more at his size. Lazy! Always getting the easy ball.

I'm uneasy about trading Martin. We're left with three full-time ruckmen, one of whom is next to useless and another who has had half as many ACL injuries as AFL games.

Huh? White was one of the best going around until the new centre circle rule.

His size? White was only 194cm?

Lazy? I would not call him lazy, rucking is the most taxing role, have to get to every break down then shove and get shoved by another 100kg guy...

Tried to turn him into a forward/ruck role on several occassions to give Jolly more rucking time. He made it clear that Jolly was not going to take over his role by being ineffective up forward.

That is a good point. I would still be keen on picking up Pederson and then trading Martin. Pederson can actually play forward and back and pinch hit, Martin is a first ruck in the making somewhere.

this would leave us with 2 back up rucks who have had ACL's though

Fitzpatrick is an odd one. Before his diabetes was diagnosed he was terrible. Watching him play was like a watching a stick insect drown. Lots of thrashing limbs for little result and the sad realisation that the poor creature shoudln't be there in the first place.

Since then I've seen a couple of Casey games on tv and he looks like a player. Very quick for his size, very agile and can hold a mark. His kicking action is uglier than a Phil Scully nude calendar but I think we could see Fitzy play a lot more AFL games this year.

This is how you do comedy.. I'm taking notes.. :P

Jeff White took money from MFC for no return He didnt justify selection for a number of years but because we paid so much he was selected to the detriment of our other ruck stocks eg Jolly

Rubbish !

While I do not agree with the decision, I think Martin is the one most likely to be traded.. Seriously underrated by the current coaches IMO. Fitzpatrick remains a mystery to me. Gawn is the one I'm hoping will step up.

Why is Fitzpatrick a mystery? Even though he battled diabetes during the season, he played fwd and ruck for Casey (yes I know it is only Casey), came 3rd in the B&F there, was named as emergency, came in for last game and didn't embaress himself

We have a good selection of (a) proven and developiing ruckmen and (B) a group who can step in for a chop out

(a) Jamar, Martin (who had a year cruelled by injury) Spencer (who got better the more games he had), Gawn

(b)Clark, Fitzpatrick (see above) Sellar

I think we will trade one if the opportunity arises, possibly Martin (by all reports he is open to a move)

But we certainly don't need another one

I'd be very careful what you say about Jeff White GD: Todd Viney may get very, very angry and visit your house for a little "chat"!

I'm looking forward to seeing Gawn out there in the action again. Maybe experiment with him a little and mic him up.

Does anyone on here have a good reason why Mark Jamar was given a 3 year contract? His tap rucking is good, if not a tad predictable, but he offers virtually nothing as a footballer beyond that. He cannot take a contested mark, has very little leap that would allow him to impact pack contests, is a below average kick, clearly doesn't read the play well as his disposals very very rarely hit double figures, and doesn't have the competitive physicality of Jake Spencer even. He is slow, and drives me insane with how often he falls to his knees. He is more a liability on game day than anything. Stefan Martin is being talked of as a trade, but allowed the no. 1 ruck role, has been and would be far better than Jamar, and with more experience get even better........I don't get it! What do he FD see in this that we don't? Anyone?

Crap. In Jolly's last year at MFC, White was AA. Athletically he was able to ruck just about all game. And as for our other ruck stocks...we traded Simmonds because we have Jolly...

Took money from a club that he almost sent broke In the end he detemined how we played. Over rated

Even if I had watched only one game it might have been at least 2 more games than you might have watched in the same period.

Your grasp of the facts is appalling.

He is one of the best ruckmen in the league.

Some of you are taken by a few games from Martin and the potential of Gawn.

For too long MFC supporters have sacrificed themselves at the altar of 'glimpses' of talent and 'potential' talent.

And I hope you all felt the derision I wrote that last line with.

I don't want to trade Martin now. Jamar got taps last year, but mostly to his feet and the opposition cleared. Jamar's slow, Martin's fast, athletic and, with good health, I'm guessing he's more likely than anyone to be our best 2013 ruckman.

I don't know they'll give him that opportunity, but maybe it's time for the baton to be passed to Martin!

Our midfield would look much better if the tap went TO them. Gawn or someone else should be ready to be #1 in 2-3 years.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
