Boss dog is not correct. It will be judged by the difference.

Correct. That is why I disagree with RPFC. My understanding is that they tally up what you lost and subtract what you gained and you are given a pick at the value of the difference. Maybe I have got it wrong though.

What about if we lost 3 players at a medium band and got none, I don't think that losing Moloney, Bate, and Dunn should net us Pick 5 just because we bombed out in getting any FAs.

What ever the case may be I hope the AFL hasn't left it to be a complete mystery to the clubs too because how the formula is calculated will impact the decisions we make.

For example if we lost rivers and moloney and that netted a top level pick (if it is cumulative) but wanted to pick up Byrnes what impact would that have? If it took our compensation from a pick after our to a pick in a round to a pick at the end of the round we might choose to trade for him instead so he's not included in the calculations.

They may keep it secret to try and stop clubs from trying to manipulate it like that.

With the amount of senior experience this side has already lost, a 28 year old 2 time premiership player sounds pretty handy right about now.

Even more so when you take into account he's a small forward/midfielder.

Late comment in an overlong thread regarding a good ordinary footballer who was part of a champion team and played his role.

Saw him play in Shepp, saw him him in the grannies and good luck to him. Played to the best of his abilities and got the rewards.

His time is over and we'd be stupid to even consider picking him up.

Great pick-up for all the right reasons. Welcome to the MFC Shannon.

For twitter users who are familiar with Shannon account.... Welcome to Shannon Byrnes! Our new vertically challenged player!

Fantastic.

Cant wait to see byrnes in a melb jumper and showing the boys how its done.

Hopefully a couple more recruits can join him soon.

good move :)

Yeah maybe he can show them how it's done at Casey seeing he had such a stellar year in the magoos at Geelong.

We're not Geelong.

I think you might find that Geelong's main list is just a tad stronger than ours and therefore possibly a little harder to break into... and correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't their magoos do reasonably well? We need experience, skill and pace and they are three things he does bring with him as well as a desire to play for our club.

Tell me who you would rather have that we could realistically convince to come to our club during this free agency period.

No disrespect to Shannon. I wish him well, for his sake and ours. But meh.

Yeah maybe he can show them how it's done at Casey seeing he had such a stellar year in the magoos at Geelong.

Ah is is just so great for us to have so many really positive true supporters.

So, he may not have been able to break into the strong Cats team, but he is renowned as a hard worker and has big match experience, so should add to the MFC lineup.

But there is no pleasing some folk.

And welcome Shannon - we are not all negative tossers by the way.

I would give him jumper # 31 because from what I've heard of his good character, I believe he will restore the integrity this guernsey lost as a result of it being worn by the predecessor.

Posted

It was tweeted that "Byrnes is off to do Kokoda in his off season in preparation for the season ahead".. hope he brings the same sort of driven attitude to the field.

Posted

I really hope that the increased responsibility he will take on at his new club will translate into good form. He is more than capable of playing smart and skilled footy.

He is a great bloke and will add to immediately to the character of the playing group.

Will be a better pick up than many think.

Good show chaps !! :)

THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the

We'll break down the Match SIM against North Melbourne and wrap up the preseason with insights into training and our latest recruits. I apologize for skipping our annual season review show at the end of last season. After a disapponting season filled with off-field antics and a heated trade week, I needed a break. Thankfully, the offseason has recharged me, and I’m back—ready t
