At first Petterd + 20 sounds overs, as I, like many on here, have a bit of a soft spot for Ricky. But the reality is this is a guy who was as fit as he is going to get this season, and still managed no more than a couple of woeful games in one of the worst sides in recent memory. He is clearly on the way out, so basically he adds nothing to the trade in terms of things we are giving up. Would still push to get a lower pick in return to try and include in Pedersen or Ray trades.

Would have thought clubs would learn our duds are just that. Once a player is tainted with the MFC brush there is no return for them.

I hope Melbourne hold off a bit. It seems they are chasing Clinton Young quite hard, and I'm guessing only have the money to do so as they believe Dawes is gone. If we can hold off trading for him until after they have signed Young suddenly the ball is firmly in our favour.

Dawes currently is in contract, but if they recruit Young thinking he's gone they have no option to get rid of him... Thus potentially us getting a slightly better deal.

Trade week does end a week after free-agency does so it's entirely possible; just be interesting to see whether the club had the balls to take it up to the big guys in Collingwood.

20 and Petterd might be overs, but lets not kid ourselves; we need some more starting 22 forwards. Clark aside the forward line has been a revolving door. Green & Jurrah are gone, and Howe spends time in the midfield.

I'm happy to get Dawes for pick 20 and petterd, but hope we havent offerd him the same coin as Clark

We have to tough it out on our principles, as we have to deal with the same customers year in, year out.

Pick 20, IF they want a player as mentioned they have to cough up something to balance the ledger. Or we hang onto P20, & give a later pick from the compensations + the player, for Dawes.

If it is Dawes for 20 and Petterd, as others have noted, Ricky isn't a massive add-on. I would perhaps see if they'd be keen to add pick 76 or something along those lines. They'll have five picks before that and probably won't use it anyway. It could end up being our third or fourth live pick.

The biggest pity is we have such a poor list we don't have any one worth trading, I'd love to hang on to pick 20 there will be some talent still available, Stringer, Hrovat, Vlastiun etc.

Collingwood now "have" to get rid of Dawes, otherwise they are paying a bloke to play in the VFL next year.

Buckley doesn't rate him, it seems. And Cloke and Lynch are ahead of him in terms of getting a game. (Otherwise, why did they bother getting Lynch?)

It's the Essendon approach and it's why everyone avoids dealing with them.

I'm strongly against this approach. Make a sensible offer first up and just get it done ASAP. If Collingwood want to piss about the edges with it and make silly demands like Ricky bloody Petterd then fine, whatever. Humour them in the interests of getting it done quickly so we can focus on our next move.

Chris Dawes has no long term medical issues. When injured, he is the most dedicated, determined and professional player in terms of his rehab and the way he deals with it. None of the injuries he has had in the past couple of years, (ankle, knee, hand) will stop him from being an excellent player in the future for Melbourne. Melbourne are well aware of this because the Melbourne Physio was previously a Collingwood Physio and approached the Collingwood Medical Team at the Draft Camp making enquiries about Dawes' injuries.

Around the club, Dawes is regarded as a true professional, intelligent, articulate, a strong leader and excellent role model for the younger players.

When quizzed by me, my source said he knew of no reason why Collingwood would want to trade him.

My source is high up within the Collingwood inner sanctum, a great bloke, and has never lied to me in the past.

He could only suppose that salary cap issues were the reason why Collingwood were happy to trade him. His info has always been spot on.

Hope this helps put the naysayers away. I would trade Pick 20 and Martin for Dawes in a heartbeat.

Typical of the bullying for which Collingwood is renowned and hated.We need Dawes so have to pay 'overs' to get him. Does it really matter if Petterd is included in the deal? Would he get a game with them on his performances this year? He played very few with us!Get it done. Give us a second big tall in the forward line.

In the presser Neeld did with Hogan he mentioned bringing in around 12 players into the 2013 list. Some experienced and some thru the draft. That means that borderline players who are not getting a senior game like Petterd are likely to go to make room. We are going to see a number of 2012 players leave or be pushed. That's the reality of trading this year when you include the mini draft, FAs, 2010/11 compo picks, FA compo picks, and OOC players. There was a good article in the Age on the weekend on the power the FA rules give clubs, as opposed to the power it gives players. Mentions Petterd as a example of a not-yet-RFA player who is OOC and not getting a game in the seniors. Worth reading.

Listening to Tim Harrington about list management and dealing with other clubs, he isn't one to dick around other clubs. They would know exactly where they sit, what to offer, and where their cut-off or limitations would be. It would have been something else in managing lists to be involved in dealings with Gubby Allen, Scott Clayton over the mini draft dealings that enabled Jack to be delivered to pick 26 under Father Son.

I would have loved to be a fly on the wall among that discussion.

I think that's half the point - not giving a sucker an eve break.

Collingwood aren't bothered by having the trade held up, but it can disrupt our efforts to rebuild our list.
