Still unsure about pick 20. Reported today that we will be paying him 500k. Is he really worth this much. As much as I think he will be good, I am starting to think, keep 20 and getting Pederson is a better option.

These are the same people who said we were paying Micth nearly 1 mill a year which turned out to be false.

No one from MFC has been quoted in any of the atricles about what he'll be paid. Don't believe everything you read.

Money doesn't worry me. Someone has to get paid the money, would rather attract players like Clark and to a lesser extent Dawes, front load their contracts, and repeat in the coming years. Would rather Clark and Dawes getting the big bucks rather than the same old duds that got us in this mess.

Pick 20 is fair, they can have Petterd if they want him, adds little value to the trade, just swing us a 3rd rounder or similar.

We need another key forward , beware thieves in the night ( Buiidogs remember mission foods). Get the deal done.

I feel really dirty about posting this:

Rumour from Facebook (make of it what you will)

"GWS have also sparked interest in Chris Daws who have offered to double his salary for a move up to Western Sydney.

It's understood pick 12 or 13 would be offered for his services."

Surely he's not worth a Pick 12 or 13? There's debate that he's even worth 20. I suppose though GWS have so many picks at the pointy end that they can afford to splurge a little on experienced players.

We're offering him half a million dollars per year too.

No wonder he picked the Dees - he's on nearly half that st the filth!

On the last years of their contracts we were paying more than that to Cam Bruce, Brad Green and Brent Moloney. We are paying more than that currently to Aaron Davey. Based on that sliding scale Dawes should be paid more than Judd at Melbourne.

Not doubting it would be good to have Dawes on our list but if another club trump us, so be it, we'll take Stringer at 20 and move on

I'm tipping that Eddie started the GWS rumours. If it's true then let him go. We need to start making statements like we may use 20 on Gumby or someone else.

I recon we should make a serious play for Gumbleton..

The whole Dawes situation is taking to long, plus I hate Collingwood..

Wow, I really hope clubs don't play those kinds of BS games. We keep hearing about how it's a professional sport - 'world's best practice' etc. This sort of crap is best reserved for the playground.

Or maybe I'm just naive.

He is studying law in Melbourne.

Doubt he would want to make the change.

Calm 'landers, it will get done

20 and Petterd might be overs, but lets not kid ourselves; we need some more starting 22 forwards. Clark aside the forward line has been a revolving door. Green & Jurrah are gone, and Howe spends time in the midfield.

I'm happy to get Dawes for pick 20 and petterd, but hope we havent offerd him the same coin as Clark

Pick 20 Petterd and a $500k contract - that is definitely overs.

Petterd would be a star at the Filth.

He's studying a law degree at Melbourne and doesn't want to move interstate. I would be incredibly surprised if he went up to GW$ (who are now apparently trying to lure Tippett as well).

I'd be happy with Stringer, but I don't think he'll be available at 20. We'll need to make some trades to move up in the draft if we want him.

Half a million, if true, is a hell of a lot of money for Dawes. Yes we paid that kind of money to Bruce, Green, Davey etc - but you think we'd learn from past mistakes.

If that is the case, melb should stand by their initial offer and go no further. pick 12 or 13 is way to low.

as mentioned pick 20 seemed to be pushing it.

I imagine that collingwood i.e. eddie will do everything in his power to avoid melb benefiting from this.

keep the pick 20 offer available, and push hard for pederson and gumbleton.

They were mostly back-ended contracts. Unfair comparison.

The only two I can definitely recall is Aaron Davey and Cam Bruce whose last contracts were in total over $500K per season.

Petterd is probably a delist so throwing him into the deal costs us ...ummm...nothing.

$500K contract - sounds about right.

Petterd a star at Collingwood- if he is a star at Collingwood good luck to him and damn his eyes for being a pretender at Melbourne.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
