Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Lynden Dunn looks to be a stayer

Glad Dunn is a stayer. A lot of people write him off year after year, but he's one of the only blokes that plays with a bit of guts. Sure he's not the classiest or most skilful player, but he provides a contest and can roost it when needed. Uses his body pretty well too. Only knock on him is that he can play for the free, hopefully we won't see to much of it next year. Genuine player and has a role in this side.

Bolded bits = I disagree. Entirely. Like, I could not disagree more with these statements. He has no guts (he shirks contests), he doesn't provide contests (see previous), he doesn't use his body well (he is pathetic in marking contests).

So, another year of pissweak performances from a supposedly senior player awaits. I'm sure he is practising his pointing and his staging for free kicks already. If he ever won a one-on-one contest, I think I'd die of shock.

Hi poita. I think we're going to be good friends.

  • 2 weeks later...

Would just like to bump this with some rumour mongering :) It is that time of year after all....

Lynden Dunn spotted (personally) at Norwood Oval after the GF win over here in SA... With Norwood club officials I might add... Rumours running rife from within the NFC that they may have a new player come 2013....

Just saying....

Not sure how his contract situation is sitting at the Dees.... Just letting you all know what my eyes and ears are witnessing....

He is experienced, strong, 'mature bodied', can kick, and has played "the role" that Neeld has asked of him so I would be very surprised were he to be delisted or traded (?contract status).

I think we all agree that he has to brush up on a few things, especially his diving and giving away stupid frees, but if he does that he could be a very valuable contributor especially as a tight annoying HBF, from where his long delivery forward will be particularly valuable as our forward structure becomes more physically imposing.

Someone observed that he is already working on his fitness and endurance so it would seem that he may have taken the message.

Well done.

Does anyone else think he might be able to play the matt suckling type role at Melbourne? Does not have the same 'elite' or deadly kick as suckling but would probably have one of the more accurate kicks at Melbourne... has been put on the HBF end of this season. He has a monster kick, can do the kick ins, has quite an accurate kick with high disposal efficiency, he has good aerobic capacity, is experienced and seems to have a good attitude. I think he deserves another contract and see if he can develop himself into a HBF.

I dont think Dunn has lived up to his potential.

But he showed a little bit towards the end of the year and i guess we will see.

I wouldnt cry if he went to another club, actually to be honest. id be quite pleased

He needs to fix two things:

1) Stop diving.

2) Stop trying to always push his opponent under the ball, grow a set and actually try to beat his opponent in the air.

This post needs more love, he's reading of the play and decision making was quite good, but these two aspects of his game that CB mentioned absolutely gives me the shits

I am a fan of keeping Lynden Dunn. He shows he really wants the Demons to win and wears his heart of his sleeve.

His 2nd half of 2012 was very good. In fact, he warmed to the 3rd defender role behind Mcdonald and Frawley/Sellar.

I believe Frawley should be used as a more running defender for his size and pace. Dunn can utilise a defensive post, and has good size and skills.

Does it increase our compo position if both he and Rivers leave? I don't mind the guy, but if we could get something worthwhile I wouldn't cry.

Sounds like we just get another separate pick. As they say, spud+spud+spud doesn't equal a good player

Surprised at some of the positivity towards Dunn. I just don't think he sets a good example for his younger teammates. From all reports works very hard on the track but constantly let's the team down with soft and undisciplined football. After 8 years on our list, not good enough.

I guess that's up to the AFL's discretion, and I don't think many would cry if our end result was an early second rounder

All indications are the pick ( and I only see references to A pick ) are based upon the consolidated nett loss to a club.

Logic then suggest the more you lose the better the pick. Its based upon a points system devised and known only to the AFL themselves...all secret squirrel sh!t it seems..The points are based ( but not only determined by ) the age of the player and the value of the new contract. What these values are and what bias is given is anyones guess

Don't rate him, happy to have the club cut its losses.

The only reason he'd be kept is because of what I'm now calliing The Sydney Effect. Being that you remove an average player from a side, drill some team ethics into them and coach them to play a role without compromising on any part of the expectations you set for them.

Dunn v Joel Macdonald, surely only room for one of them, if we keep Rivers then probably room for neither. Who would you keep. One can kick one can't. One can do something in the air, put his head over the ball and win the ball on the ground. It's 50/50 I'd say but I think Neeld will probably lean towards Macdonald.

I think you recieve a pick for each player lost rather than one combined pick, which is a good thing i think. From the AFL website:

"It will be one draft pick for every player lost to free agency, with five bands of compensation available. These are first round, end of first round, second round, end of second round and third round.

Port Adelaide will receive two picks for losing Pearce to Freo and defender Troy Chaplin to Richmond. The Power can't petition the AFL into bundling those two selections into one selection earlier in the draft"

Dunn can be very frustrating at times.

What he lacks in ability he makes up in aggression and willingness to compete at all times (i.e. complete opposite to Morton)

He is worth keeping while our younger players develop.

Nice work, you managed the "Dunn is tough and competitive" clanger AND a Morton backhander in a thread that has nothing to do with him whatsoever, all in the one post.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

    MAULED by Whispering Jack

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
