Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

From the article on af

So why did JR leave? Didn't like MNeeld? MNeeld didn;t like JR?

Or just time for a change??

Anyone know??

From the afl article:

"His decision to join Geelong came down to an opportunity for on-field success arriving sooner rather than later."

That is bloody hilarious cooko. A bit rough but very funny.

As for Rivers, I feel neither here nor there. From a personal point of view I'm mildly disappointed, but it's almost wholly offset by the knowledge that from a footy point of view we're probably going to be net-better off. Another everyone wins moment IMO,

Which is exactly why I didn't write catagorically - "Jared Rivers is going to Geelong for less money" - because I don't know. I am making assumptions that Geelong even though they have freed up some money with retirements have been struggling with their cap. It is not outside the realms that the offer we put on the table was low somewhat forcing his hand. You are right - I don't know (just tipping).

All good mate - as I said I wasn't having a crack at you presonally just wanted to pass some info, i do enjoy your contributions nutbean

Its no secret Im no massive J-Riv fan but he was a good club servant and I wish him all the best.

I don't think there is any conspiracy here - I think Rivo wanted more than we were willing to offer (which makes sense at his stage of his career) and when push came to shove he took roughly the same amount of cash at a more sucessful club....

Good luck to him... Thats what this FA period is about and I think it's worked well to a large extent - it's been an exciting time and given players opportunity

PS - Just to clairy i don't blame J Riv for chasing cash or success at this stage of his career.

Peronally my only gripe on Rivo is he is a libaility offesively (in the back 6) - was a very solid defender though

Im disappointed he has left. But when you get an opportunity to go to geelong I can see why he has left. he was a courageous player and I enjoyed watching him play foward this year.

Hopefully Frwaley can have a good pre season and get back to his great form he had in previous years. I feel more confident with our backline with Tom McDonald down there. He had a ripper year and with GArland doing ok and throw atts down there I think we will be ok. Will be weird to see him in a cats jumper.

Good luck to him, I wouldn't write off Geelong's finals presence just yet, with both Rivers and McIntosh arriving.

Given that they got another premiership anyway after Ablett left, that situation is working out for them nicely - the draft picks to bring in fresh young players, and the salary cap room to attract reliable mature guys.

I think Rivers will get to do exactly what he's best at, while with te Cats, and not be exposed in the one-on-ones that have troubled him a bit over the years. He's as good a positional match for Geelong as Dawes is for Melbourne.

Now, the compensation for Rivers probably becomes Cameron Pederson, and we have a 'fully stocked' key position list all of a sudden!

If someone asked me to trade Pederson for Riv I'd tell them to [censored] off but that's what we will probably get.

I heard (take with grain of salt) he wanted three years, would settle for two but club only offered one.

OK thanks. Seems both parties were pretty happy to go their separate ways......

Much underrated by many on Demonland. Best defender from past 10 years. Clearly wasn't in MN's plans.

Agree. Very disappointed he has gone. I thought he was really good this year, and some heroes around here potting him clearly weren't at many games.

I will miss you Riv, and as pantaloons alluded to, I actually hope you get some success! Would love to see you with a medallion around your neck.

Cheers big fella!

Geelong are on the way out of the 8. Im upset he left, should have hung around

Nah. I don't begrudge Riv one last shot at success and perhaps the few more $s that Geelong were offering. We are clearly on a longer journey, and he wouldn't be around to enjoy the success that Neeld is building.

If we get a second round pick does that mean a pick after 26? I think he was dratfed at 26??

Anyways Jared. A fine career at the MFC. You sometimes batted above your weight against the gorilla's, as well as being found out against the gorilla's too. I loved your first year at the club, you stood up when the club needed you at CHB

A fine player and I hope the Cats give you some success

This type of post frustrates me as J Riv is an unrestricted free agent and he made the choice to leave for better opportunities.

On another note:

Good luck Rivers thank you for your service to the MFC and I hope his future with Geelong is successful.

I am really disappointed to lose JR to the Cats. I believe he has been a much maligned member of our team who has provided consistency and hardness on the field. I wish him all the very best for the future but think that his loss represents a rare minus in what has been a positive trade period.

Best of luck to him. He's done all he could have done at our club and I don't think we have any right to begrudge him the chance to go and play in some finals after ten years with us. As good as he is, it's a loss we can cover with the huge number of tall defenders at our disposal. I don't think anyone has the right to take shots at him for this.

Good luck Riv,sad to see you go,wish it was Garland.

It's only going to take a Frawley injury and we'll be relying on Garland and Sellars and the inexperienced Tommy Mac & Watts.

This will set us back more than most people realise.

I stopped giving a sh*t about most players a long time ago, but this one actually hurts a little.

I've always loved Rivers and thought he was one of the few senior players who really stood up over the last 2 shambolic seasons.

Having said that, I totally understand his decision and wish him all the best (except when he plays us).

P.S.- if he left because we were only offering him 1 year, than we are a disgrace. Hope it's not true. We gotta stop treating our respected senior players like garbage!

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

    GAMEDAY: Rd 07 vs Richmond

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

    OOZEE by The Oracle

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
