Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

FAREWELL JARED RIVERS

Apocalypse XXXI

Some time ago when a list of players not signed was put up Rivers name was among them .

Has he has a contact offered and elected to Suss out the market or was he not offered a contract ?

Harrington said in an interview today that Jared has been offered a contract but he is waiting to go over his options and see if he fits in our club.

Speak to Barry Prendergast. The AFL have given us many chances.

The Club F$&@ked them all up.

We supporters are left to deal with the rubble.

Yes in the past WYL, But Who voted these past admins in to wreck the place? The voters voted them in. The members elected the ones who have failed the club in the past 15 or so years.

This would be the timeframe IMO, we have really let the List and Culture slip around our proverbial ankles. Slowly slipped year by year.

The whole free agency thing is driven by the Players Association.

The AFL fought for a number of years but they knew one day a player would take them to court and the AFL would lose.

Then the whole Salary Cap / drafting system would fall apart.

It is the players that are to blame here along with their demands that the min. a club can pay is 95% of the total.

This is all about what the Players union see as maximising their salary's

The thing they miss is before long a club will fall over and then 40 of them will be unemployed.

...and you can guarantee all of them will be thinking it won't be me"old dee", way of the world I guess. It's always someone else's problem.

That really doesn't sound good

The reality with the situation is that it will need time to be played out because Geelong is working through a few other potential trades and probably can't finalise a FA agreement with Jared until the picture with the other transactions becomes clearer. No hurry, this thing lasts for weeks.

So DemonChris, you have 11 posts. One makes an unsubstantiated statement about Rivers one makes an unsubstantiated claim about Frawley.

Are you simply trolling? Or just prone to boredom?

I go by what i read and hear, who is to say your sources are any better? I know i like to be kept up to date with all the latest news, Not every rumor is true which is why they are 'rumors'. I will be more then happy to post where i get my information from. I also wrote 'may be set to stay' did not say he signed etc.

According to the Hun - Geelong leads race for Gold Coast midfielder Josh Caddy

"Geelong, however, could be a big winner of the trade period if they can lure Caddy, with North Melbourne ruckman Hamish McIntosh and Melbourne defender Jared Rivers also likely trade aquisitions.

After 150 games in 10 years with the Demons, Rivers is keen to join Geelong on a three-year deal believed to be worth $350,000 a season.

But he may have to wait until close to the free agency deadline on October 19 before knowing his fate with the Cats, who can officially start dealing for Caddy with the Suns on Monday when the annual player-exchange period begins."

It's folly to believe anything you read during the Gilette trade period until deals are signed, sealed and delivered, but if that figure is accurate, then thanks for your service over 10 years, Jared. With Frawley, McDonald and Garland already in the backline, we can't be shelling out that sort of coin. It bodes well for the compensation though.

We can pay him $100k outside the cap.

Thanks for that. I would ask something like "I thought they were getting rid of the veteran's list - what's going on?" preempting a one page, vitriolic response from across Demonland around how I need to read the rules, but I'll just take your word for it.

Vet's list is still there, but the rules have changed. Instead of paying half outside the cap, now it's just $100K per player.

That depends, both are acceptable spelling. Seeing as though my auto correct decided to spell it how it did, it will be the one i will go with..

I can't believe I'm doing this, but, actually, they aren't.

Rumor, like color and humor and all of those spellings are American. They aren't correct in Australian English.

If you put them in a job application, it might get turfed in the bin.

Just putting it out there.

I am using an American laptop, therefor on my account, it was the correct spelling. I also completely agree with you in regards to the Australian spelling. I understand that is the case, but when the red underline appears, you can't ignore it. Edited by demonchris

Just putting it out there.

Just to add to that, as an interesting aside for those interested, English English spelling is also the official spelling of English not just in Australia, NZ etc., but throughout Europe.

As I'm sure Jared Rivers is aware ...

I don't want to be pedantic, but so what. Change your dictionary to Australian English. It's easy enough to do

Most computers here default to American English when using a dictionary. It's easy enough to change

Melbourne aren't budging on a 2 yr deal, Geelong offering 3

Melbourne won't say it and Rivers has been a fine servant, but I'm guessing that privately they won't be all that disappointed if Rivers goes. If he was a full-back or centre-half back it would be different, but he's a third tall and we have Watts, Garland and Davis that can play that role. And he spent half the year as a makeshift forward.

After the poor public relations with some other former players they're making all the right noises, but I don't think they're concerned at all. Just my guess.

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

    GAMEDAY: Rd 07 vs Richmond

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

    OOZEE by The Oracle

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
