Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Losing our best defender is just what we need to finish off the worst season of any AFL club in history.

And no,Chip the Spud isn't better than Riv,he's had one good season,as for Bartram,Joel Mac,Garland-give me a spell!!!

Our best defender... who spent half the year as a forward?

Chip the Spud. FFS. For every poster with the rose coloured glasses on, there's one with poo coloured glasses on that sees the worst in everything.

...........

And Dunn who has played mainly as a forward, spent half the year as a back, and looks to have cemented his spot in the side...see other topic on Dunn.

Interestingly,

Rivers 192cm, 92kg

Dunn 192cm, 95kg

(Scarlett 192cm, 94kg)

The rub on Rivers has been that when isolated 1 out (as targeted by the filth) on a tall forward, he has been found out. Not sure he has the 1 on 1 strength to be a Scarlett replacement. Then again, if he gets in the gym........but you wonder a bit why he hasn't beefed up a bit already.

The cats already have a sweeper type (Mackie 192cm, 87kg), so you wonder where their interest is.

Having said all that, I rate Rivers and am not keen to see him go.

Riv's been a great servant of the club. He had a moderately good year (5th in B&F in a 4 win season is hardly earth shattering).

I would be disappointed if he left, but hardly devastated. The compo pick in an excellent draft would mitigate my disappointment.

So - meh!

In a season where he played half of it at the opposite end of the ground that he has for his whole career...

You state he is our best defender yet he was our fourth choice key defender even before he moved forward? Bartram, Joel Mac and Garland play a completely different role. Watts played back and pre-injury had more intercepts of play than any player in the comp. If there is any sweeping role it will be played by Watts.

We were [censored] with him and we've got Frawley, McDonald, Garland, Watts, Dunn, and Davis to hold down third talls as we see fit.

Adelaide lost Bock and Phil Davis in successive years and with an ageing Ben Rutten some Adelaide supporters thought the sky was falling. But opportunities opened up and now Talia is a rising star. Look at Hawthorn. Today they've got Gibson, Schoenmakers and Stratton as their 3 tall backs. They could be 3 premiership key backs in a few hours, but I'd take Frawley, McDonald and Garland/Watts over that triumvirate.

Rivers leaving isn't preferable, but nor is it a major issue. And with a decent compensation pick we may come out ahead. I understand the logic that losing senior players isn't ideal, but we'll be losing a player in a part of the ground we can readily cover. I see 2012 as the end of a bleak era. Neeld and Co have had their year to assess the list and 2013 represents a new beginning. If Rivers goes, as well as Moloney - and a few others - it's probably the right time for it to happen.

Did you see Davis' kicking in the VFL Grand Final? I know he has other qualities but he makes McDonald and Fitzpatrick look like they are at AFL standard.

Yes, I did. He had a mare - especially with two kicks in 30 seconds. I don't judge a player on one game, but on what I see on a regular basis. When I look at what he can do, I don't concern myself by the odd skill error.

He has a lot of work to do, but I like his pace, his courage, he's aggressive with a bit of mongrel and I reckon he's got plenty of development in him. Those that cry over a couple of bad kicks would have already put a line through him.

Correct. We all thought the world ended when T$ left and what happened. He is playing worse than an ordinary footballer and we have 2 good picks to find better players. How many now would be upset if we got say Hogan and MacRae, Kennedy or Stringer with those picks?

Thanks, so we are talking about Troy Davis who I do like as a potential tall defender but some have discounted because his disposal has been a bit "iffy" under pressure. I'd keep him for at least another year. He may still come to something.

We also have Jai Sheahan, a rookie, who I think has a tremendous future.

Agree Jack, re Davis. Too soon for a tough lad who kicked much better as I remember it last year. Looked distracted this year.

Jai Sheahan has a little bit to go IMO but I see him at this stage as a Rivers replacement 3rd Tall type flanker. May grow into a key posi', but I can't see it atmo.

I agree WJ I was wrapped when we picked up sheahan. He was touted as a top 30 pick in the ND by some experts yet didn't even get a look in till out 3rd?? Round pick in the rookie draft from what I have seen and read (pre draft) he has KP potential I'm excited by this kid.

No problem with keeping him, just saying his disposal is extremely bad from what I have seen so far. Like I said, I'm sure he has other qualities but kicking is not one of them.

If true I can't say I'm happy with us losing him, I'm not really upset with Riv himself, but what I really feel we'll be missing from him is the experience. Watts was good in defense in patches, but long term it's not where he belongs, so when he does move out who's going to take his spot? I really hope Neeld and Co will take a very aggressive trade and FA strategy.

Agree.

Kinda like Schoenmakers, who the hawks have persevered with and I think will turn into a very dependable player.

I have hope that Davis can turn out a Grundy type backman for us and Viney a bigger version of Kieran Jack.

    TRAINING: Friday 19th April 2024

They are out for a run just as it starts raining. It didn't last long, ended up a reasonable session weather wise.  Light duties, BBB, rehab Farris-White, Melky, Salem and Spargo, all with private trainers. They are all playing soccer, huge amount of noise. 36-40 (difficult to get a count) in the main squad, biggest I've seen it in ages. Choco is barking out the orders. Goody has intense body language as he observes. Bowey in a lime green cap (no contact), and in the sim

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

    MAULED by Whispering Jack

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
