I believe the deal is 3 and 13 to GWS for Hogan and pick 20. That's the way it reads on The Age website.

oh. that is not as good.

i dont believe that, Adelaide got a pick back last year from only about pick 7? no way we are the ones throwing in the extra's in this.

i see it being a 3 for Hogan and 20 or jed Anderson or all 3

Melbourne is believed to be close to securing a trade of pick three (and possibly pick 13) with GWS for pre-listed under-age key position star Jesse Hogan and pick 20.

GWS don't really care about pick 20 let's be honest. We'll get it back for using pick 4.

Furthermore even better news quote from Emma Quayle from twitter:

No-one would be happier about coming to Melbourne than Jesse Hogan. Mad Demons supporter.

Even though he lives in WA he follows the Dees. I want to poo myself for how perfect this relationship is.

pick 13 added is too much, what does your second sentence indicate?

i would think pick 3 or 4 and getting pick 20 back in return

If we "over-pay" you need to take into consideration that GWS enabled us to get Jack Viney at 26 instead of 3.

If, as is being suggested, Hogan is the Ox in waiting for 2014, should we really be paying much to get Dawes? Wouldn't we be better off going for more skilled mids? Williams may be able to fill a role in 2013 with another preseason.

Yep. That has been raised in this forum weeks ago.

We clearly haven't got off scot-free for landing Viney in the second round. If it means paying overs for Hogan, of all players?

Where do I sign?

Sorry looking back my wording is poor, I mean GWS don't really need 13 or 20, it's not those picks they're worried about, they just want pick 3 over 4.

We should get pick 20 back without using pick 13 as a sweetener. Pick 3 is exactly what they want and giving us 20 as a thankyou is a great deal for both.

Pick 3 for Hogan and pick 20

Then use pick 20 to Collingwood for Wellingham (If West Coast don't want to use their first rounder).

If they do use their first rounder use it on Dawes.

Either way pick 3

= Hogan + Wellingham

or at worst

Hogan + Dawes

My thinking exactly. In 2014 we will more then likely have Hogan and Clarke. I don't see a place for Dawes in the side considering he can't ruck and play forward as the pies tried to make him do this year.

GWS were clearly intent on getting picks 1, 2 and 3 so they'll be super happy. We 'enabled' that to happen.

Love a bit of win-win

Thinking about it, trading pick 3 or pick 4 will be merely splitting hairs. If we trade pick 4, GWS will simply take Toumpas at 2 and just pick up Grundy at 4, as there is almost no chance we'll pick him up.

Whereas pick 3 looks better on paper, and we will essentially be picking up the same player as if we were to give up pick 4.

Therefore, go hard. Pick 3 + steak knives (not pick 13).

Surely will be nicknamed "Hulk" Hogan.

Hogan must be good, he was in the top 10 of this year's beep test with is really good for a big bloke.

GWS have 100's of young talented players to chose from to pick for this mini draft and if these are the only 2 they have picked then they both must be worthy of pick 2 and 3 then.

I am looking forward to seeing him and Watt taking over the forward line into our next grand final if this is true. :)

Not usually a fan of your work Olisik but I like this. 3 for Hogan and 20, and then 20 for Dawes sounds pretty darn good.

Simply not true we will use 3 and 4 on the best two available players.

Surely if Hogan is coming 2013, then that will make us an even less attractive proposition for Dawes? He does have to agree, after all.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
