Well if Mark Stephens says it then it must be gospel truth :-)

MELBOURNE could be the new home for Essendon utility Angus Monfries.

The dangerous small goal shark is a conspicuous absence in recent top signings up at Windy Hill and remains out of contract.

It has emerged that Monfries could be headed to the Demons as part of plans from coach Mark Neeld to bolster scoring potential for his struggling unit that won just four games this season.

If the highly experienced Bomber doesn’t head for Melbourne and an MCG home, Monfries is also linked in a possible switch to Port Adelaide.

Port veteran Danyle Pearce is also understood to be considering a move to Melbourne on an attractive four-year deal.

Monfries, 25, is originally from South Australia and a return to his home state is additional lure to a possible switch to Port if Pearce leaves as appears firmly on the cards.

The Demons are believed to have secured a handy small forward with crucial opportunist goal kicking as a serious appeal and are waiting for a chance to announce their new signing.

Neeld is determined to increase his scoring power in ambitious plans to rapidly rise into finals contention.

The Demons averaged just 71.8 points a game in Neeld’s inaugural season, which ranked 15th in the league, while Melbourne leaked 106.4 points a match which was the third biggest in the competition.

It is believed early Demons recruiting lures have snared a handy small forward to join in tandem with last year’s boom arrival Mitch Clark.

Yay, 2 players who hate the contest.

Pearce is a smooth player if he has no one near him, terrible when tagged.

Monfries falls over at a breath of wind and holds his head, can play a bit tho.

Not exactly what i would have expected Neeld to go after but I'll trust his judgement over mine for now (if true)

Thats my initial thought too, however, when i heard we were going hard for Mitch Clark i thought. No thanks, hes an over-rated ruckman surplus to our needs, gives away free kicks from trying to be a hard man and has a stupid hair cut and stupid tatts.

How perspective can change when you see what role Neeld has in mind for them, and they're wearing red and blue!

I reckon journos spread this "Shite" and then do a nearest the pin comp at the end, to see who buys the beers.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
