Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Pick Three

I was wondering who on D'land believes they can see into the mind of MFC's Coaching and List Management Staff and are able to successfully pick 3 players not currently on our list, who will be at the Demons after all the different the trade period ends. (29 November 2012)

You can say why you think the Club would have them if you like but it not essential. Get your picks in Before Oct 1 2012.

Then when November 29 2012 rolls up we will go back over and see who the was the closest. The winner will receive no accolades or prizes other than

  1. the knowledge that for a short time in their life they won a meaningless competition, and
  2. Something to do in the lull between Footy Seasons, and
  3. A little smugness (and only a little please), and
  4. A little strutting action, and finally,
  5. A head held high.

My Picks

1. Josh Drummond

2. Chris Knights

3. Jordan Russell

Danyle Pearce (FA)

Jordan Russell (FA)

Jarred Moore (FA)

And others that I reckon we'll see include:

Koby Stevens (TRADE)

Aaron Cornelius (TRADE)

Jesse Hogan (Pick 3 on traded for Pick 2 in the MD)

Jonathon O'Rourke (Pick 4)

Dayle Garlett (Pick 13)

Nathan Wright (late 1st round draft pick received from trade of Jordan Gysberts to Geelong)

Kristian Jaksch (late 1st round draft pick received from trade of Stef Martin & our 3rd round pick to Collingwood)

Jack Viney (2nd round draft pick F/S)

Paul Marschall (4th round draft pick)

Dan Nicholson to be upgraded with our 5th round pick also. But the main three who I expect to see are certainly Pearce, Russell and Moore.

Call it being very optimistic!

I have to ask, you are saying that we are going to give up ND Pick 3 for MD Pick 2. Does that mean that to get the MD Pick 1, the asking price will be greater than ND Pick 3? If so, that means the only team that stands a chance will be the GC with thie ND Pick 2.

If that were to happen, GWS will have pick 1, 2 & 3 in the ND.

Are you deliberately fcuking with my head?

Haha, yeah sorry I should have specified that shouldn't I.

I've heard that GC are keen on Martin so will offer Pick 2 which would mean that our Pick 3 would get us Hogan.

Christ, in this so called "Superdraft", well, I don't thknk it's called that now but most believe the top players are all quality, the GWS stand to have Picks 1, 2 & 3.

FMD, why don't we just give them the premiership in 3 years.

Can't see it happening.

We wouldn't offer pick 3 if GC have already gone pick 2. No-one can best pick 4, and that's what we'd offer. With the understanding that they wouldn't nominate Viney, of course.

Anyway, this is my WISHLIST:

1. Corey Enright

2. Clinton Young

3. Aaron Cornelius

Jesse Hogan

Jesse Hogan

Jesse Hogan

Just got a report from a friend in WA who said and I quote

"Hogan is to Melbourne what you all thought Jack Watts would be, a true CHF"

He also said the following

"Alongside Clark you might just have a top 4 forward line"

"Neeld will fix your club"

"Melbourne is a joke"

Jonathon O'Rourke

OROURKE-Jonathan-2012.jpgCalder Cannons 18 183 cm 75 kg Kevin Sheehan says: “Medium midfielder who is a prolific ball winner and smart user of the ball. Runs all day and makes good decisions with the football in heavy traffic. Has good game sense and an excellent mix of speed and endurance. Classy type who averaged 18.5 disposals at 77% efficiency for Vic Metro and was rewarded with All Australian honours following the NAB AFL Under-18 Championships. Another AIS-AFL Academy graduate."

Jimmy Toumpas

TOUMPAS-Jimmy-2012.jpgWoodville West Torrens (SANFL) 18 183 cm 77 kg Kevin Sheehan says: “Energetic medium midfielder with outstanding work ethic and big aerobic capacity. Terrific ball winner and weights his kicks extremely well. Impressive for SA in 2011 NAB AFL Under-18 Championships and in the senior SANFL Grand Final, when he was among the best for 2011 Premiers, Woodville West Torrens. Won All Australian honours this year averaging 22.2 disposals. AIS-AFL Academy Graduate".

Dean Towers

TOWERS-Dean-2012.jpgNorth Ballarat Roosters 22 189 cm 83 kg Kevin Sheehan says: “Medium midfielder who was a member of the VFL State squad this year . Lachie Whitfield

WHITFIELD-Lachlan-2012.jpgDandenong Stingrays 18 184 cm 74 kg Kevin Sheehan says: “Classy medium midfielder with rare awareness and decision-making ability complemented by skills either side with hands and feet. Is naturally gifted with speed and endurance and is strong overhead. All-Australian at NAB AFL Under-18 level in 2011 and winner of AFL Life Members Scholarship. Backed it up this year winning the Larke Medal and All-Australian honours averaging 23.2 disposals. Another player who has been through the AIS-AFL Academy.”

Oliver Wines

WINES-Oliver-2012.jpgBendigo Pioneers 17 185 cm 83 kg Kevin Sheehan says: “Strong medium midfielder with a distinct hard edge that wins him contested ball, including at the stoppages. Has elite endurance and can push forward and hit the scoreboard. Ferocious tackler who is a good overhead mark and prolific ball winner. Averaged 24.2 disposals for Vic Country in thr NAB AFL Under-18 Championships this year, winning All-Australian honours. AIS-AFL Academy Graduate.”

I'd be very happy to snag any of these at 3 & 4 (probably towers at pick 13)

Wishlist (This is based on trades/free agency, not the draft btw)

1. J Kennedy - Syd (I can dream cant I!!)

2. C Young - Haw

3. B McCaffer - Coll

I think we need to bolster the midfield as everyone has said. Kennedy's inclusion speaks for itself, Young has superior footskills and a bit of pace to boot. McCaffer is an interesting one, purely put in there because we don't really have much left in terms of medium forwards. I thought about Lynch from WCE, and Wellingham, and some others, but figured as mature players to come in and bolster the side these would address some of our deficiencies (along with whoever we get through the draft.)

I reckon that's a shoe in. With some sort of confidential agreement on JV in the 2nd round. GWS happy, GC happy, MFC happy.

Three current players into the red and blue next year:

D PEARCE

A CORNELIUS

J RUSSELL

Why? Because they represent best available for our needs that actually are prepared to come to the Dees. The big name RFAs or FAs seem to be recommitting or looking for teams within a 'window'.

Felix, we're you talking about current players or young draftees as well?

Hmmm, the mini draft is responsible for giving the GWS an unfair advantage, not those that participate in it.

It would leave a bitter taste in my mouth if things aligned to enable GWS the top 3 picks in this draft. I know we wouldn't do it without it suiting our needs, but that wouldn't change the way I felt about it. I think that possibly this is because the intention of the mini draft was not to hand over more friggin picks to GWS, but it was supposed to be used to facilitate additional player trades in return for a mini draft pick. But again it is something that the AFL didn't draft up too rigorously, and we have already seen the GWS try and manipulate it to their own advantage last year.

I agree. They SHOULD have done it differently.

But here we are. In reality.

And we are trying to make ourselves better - the by-product of which may mean GWS gets better.

I don't care.

If Hogan is hero - go and get him and forget the fact that we give an advantage to a competitor.

I'm saying we'd want to be pretty friggin certain that if we were to part with Pick 3, in exchange for a 17 year old, that they are going to be a star. We can use our Pick 3 this year on current and exposed form, rather than on someone that still can't be listed for 12 months, which obviously means they can't play for at least 12 months, providing they don't get injured, etc next year. 12 months is a long time in football.

The fact that the potential of us giving up pick 3, and GC giving up pick 2 to GWS, it's such high risk stuff for both teams. Sure, the reward might end up being high, it might not either.

This year's ND was even considered a superdraft over 12 months ago. There has been no comments made about the quality of next year, which leads me to think that a high pick in the 2012 draft will be more valuable than in the 2013 draft. Also remembering that not all players that can be drafted next year are eligible for the MD this year.

So, in answer to your question, if GWS had Picks 1, 2 & 3 this year, it has to be an unfair advantage to them. Ok, we get an advantage of picking the 2nd best 17 year old out there, but it's not open slather - only certain players are eligible.

Say if a Father Son prospect would be too much of a discount at Pick 27?

We would want to be absolutely certain RP. So what are the potential outcomes?

Scenario 1;

Pick 3 (Viney)

Pick 4 (Toumpas?)

Pick 12ish (Garlett?)

Pick 20ish (?)

Scenario 2;

Pick 3 (Hogan)

Pick 4 (Wines)

Pick 12ish (Garlett)

Pick 20ish (Viney)

Scenario 3;

Pick 3 (Toumpas)

Pick 4 (Wines)

Pick 12ish (Garlett)

Pick 20ish (Viney)

I think Toumpas is the 3rd best player in this draft, behind only Whitfield and the ruckman. If we want both Toumpas and Viney (my ideal scenario), we won't be able to give up Pick 3 to GWS as they will pick him up.

This one will come down to a simple question;

Do you want Toumpas (and playing in 2013) or Hogan (playing in 2014)?

Has anyone actually seen Cornelius play?

Wouldn't be in my top 3, and I hope the MFC feel the same way.

I reckon he's alright. Kicked 13 goals in 8 games this year including two bags of 4. Averaged just over 4 marks a game and 9.5 disposals.

He's a true lead up CHF who struggles to get a game because of Brown, and he is still only 22.

I'm not saying he's a world beater, but with the new location and some work he could become a servicable player for us.

Hell 13 goals in 8 games and he would have been one of our leading goal kickers in less then half a season!

It's not hard.

    TRAINING: Friday 19th April 2024

They are out for a run just as it starts raining. It didn't last long, ended up a reasonable session weather wise.  Light duties, BBB, rehab Farris-White, Melky, Salem and Spargo, all with private trainers. They are all playing soccer, huge amount of noise. 36-40 (difficult to get a count) in the main squad, biggest I've seen it in ages. Choco is barking out the orders. Goody has intense body language as he observes. Bowey in a lime green cap (no contact), and in the sim

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
