Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Good luck with your future , Brent . All the best and thank you for your service to the club . You've got a Keith 'Bluey' Truscott medal and too not many Demons have achieved that honour . You've had your detractors but many of us could see your value . Ironically , our club needs some bigger bodied attacking midfielders .

This year wasn't your best but it's been a forgettable year for many on the list . Apart from Jones and a few others , most on our list won't have 'fond' memories of 2012 . Play well at your new club but not against us !

Cheers

Best of luck for the future Brent. You've been a favorite of mine for years, and I'll miss you leading the charge for us. You've got a Bluey medal for your mantle piece and represented Australia in the International Rules. Decent effort for someone who battled chronic OP for years. I wish you success at another club after having to battle in the doldrums with us for years.

You left out 'who can also defend'. Something Brent was unable to do unless you call finger pointing at his team mates defending.

A club's culture is determined by everyone involved, from the reception desk (which is what most people first see), to admin, coaches, players, etc etc. It's a real team effort.

What would be the major difference between other clubs and us over the past 6 years?

I will give you a hint - it isn't "the reception desk (which is what most people first see), to admin, coaches, players, etc etc."

We can go on for all time on this - your senior players drive a football club.

Why?

Because it is a football club.

But Port indicated yesterday it would not be a candidate for the services of departing Demon Brent Moloney, a free agent who has told Melbourne he wants to pursue opportunities elsewhere.

Moloney, 28, was high on Primus' list of potential experienced recruits, but interest from Port is believed to have waned since his departur

By your standards we need to clear them all out . 'A' graders only hey ?

Not practical .

Macca, someone can correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe life membership requires 10 years.

I believe you're right 'pantaloons' , re life membership at the Demons . Did a bit of a check and the only aberrations I could find were Shane Zantuck and perhaps Chris Connolly .

But it's been a 10 years service 'rule' in recent times so I stand corrected . Not sure it's 10 years at all clubs though .

Are you for real. Can you read??

Midfielders who can defend. Wow must only be two of those on the planet.

Didn't mention anything about A graders.

Posted this elsewhere, but perhaps more relevant here. I was asked to write an article on Beamer: http://www.backpagel...mment-639980535

I think his exit, moreso than others, signals the beginning of significant change for the club.

Great article wmth. Sums up our situation perfectly. It will be an interesting few months coming up for both players and supporters

My sentiments too. I support Neeld in his decisions about the list; after all, Neeld is the one who will be accountable for the list down the track. It's just a shame that BM isn't a part of his plans.

I hope that he's not booed at the games next year. This is not a TS situation.

I think most of us understand that it just didn't work out . That's life , move on .

Many of us wanted accountable footy so there was always going to be casualties .

The 'casualty' list might be quite high though :)

Coaches, administrators and the board drive culture just as much, if not more.

The standards set on the field, on the training track- come from within the leaders within the playing group.

You can have quality administrators that can appoint people with good "character" in positions within administration or on the board, but a clubs "culture" when it comes to football standards is defined by the professional limits set by the players leadership group or those who lead by example of what's required in terms of a high level of 'performance'.

It's Neelds and the FD's job to determine who has what it takes to achieve an elite level of compliance. So whilst they can set the parameters, it's the individual players that set the bar level of performance (intensity, effectiveness, efficiency , meet KPI's, consistency) that invariably resembles a clubs culture.

I haven't read the whole thread, so words to this effect may have already been said. But:

'I didn't want to go overseas and get my manager Bruce to ring up Mark Neeld and say Brent wants to leave. I wanted to sit down with him and talk to him about it and that's what we did'.

Memo, Tom Scully: this is how you do it.

Good article. Just one thing Brent, go and have a chat to Robbie Flower and ask him about playing finals footy. In a far superior career than yours, Robbie stayed with the red and and blue, and managed to play his first final in the final year of a stellar career. I bet Robbie wouldn't take back a minute of his career.

Any team can make the finals in any year. You being one of our senior, "better" players could've played a big role in getting the Demons up the ladder, but chose the easy way out. Very brave.

And to say you've been thinking about it throughout the year. Any wonder your form has dropped off when you knew in your head (there's plenty of room for it to be in there) that you weren't going to play next year.

Good bye - I'm not going to miss you.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
