Barrack for Essendon or Carlton?

Barrack for Carlton. If Essendon fall out of the 8, our mid-first round essentially moves up 1 pick, due to Essendon taking Daniher F/S.

Didn't think of this, but good point. Makes the decision a no-brainer for me. Despite my detesting of Carlton only being equaled by that of my hate of the Pies, I'm happy to barrack for them if it increases the value of one of our valuable first round picks. Go Blues!!

No injuries please, but a good melee would make me laugh, really want Essendon out of the eight so yes to Carlton winning. Keen to see both St Kilda and Geelong in the Finals, while far from being a supporter I love an underdog, and St Kilda in the finals would be huge. My nasty side has really enjoyed Essendon's 'fall from grace' since they lost to us.

Like a few have said I loathe Collingwood, Carlton, Essendon, Hawthorn and can't love any of the interstate teams except Sydney just a little bit. Figures of hate over the years have been Elliot, Kernahan, Long, Lloyd, Kennett, Wallis, HFC and EFC during 80's just cos. Collingwood - because they pinched my GF's whisky bottle.

Yet again this has been a season when the press (sorry WJ but i like bagging the media) got on the bandwagon early talking up Essendon and Carlton, way before it was justified. If I was a bit more OCD, I'd be mailing the writers their clippings about Carlton and Essendon.

In terms of team potential, and how good the team is at meeting their potential, this is how I'd group the league at the moment (maybe another thread I suppose).

Tier 1 (think Regiment (SAS)) teams in the comp IMHO (in no order) are Hawthorn, Geelong, Sydney, St Kilda,

Tier 2 (think Commandos) Adelaide, Collingwood,

Tier 3 (2RAR) Carlton, Essendon, Kangaroos, West Coast, Richmond,

Tier 4 (Chocos) Brisbane, Bulldogs, Freo,

Tier 5 (Bangladeshi Peace Keepers) Us, GFC, GWS, Port

Obviously the big in-consistency in this grouping because its outside the eight is St Kilda, but my argument is that with a coaching change, age of the list, and the heartbreak of some close GF's the fact that they are still about the mark with an old core says great things about the StK culture which used to be the worst in the league.

I really think we could see a bottom 1/2 of the eight get up this year.

do i HAVE to ?

ps love all the slagging off and insults in this thread , what a hoot ! , keep it up

The reaction of their supporter bases will both be priceless, regardless of who loses. Watching the Bomber Blitz meltdown is high amusing but it will also be funny to listen to fellows who are usually called Mario and Spiro from Carlton call up SEN and do their best impersonation of Pauly from Fat Pizza.

MMMM Horse Manure

reminds me of the lady who went to the dentist who told her she would need a filling.

she said that she'd rather have a baby than undergo the drill

to which the dentist said, hurry up and make up your mind, I have to adjust the seat accordingly

Frightengly, now that Carlton is tearing Essendon a new one, they look pretty good to make the 8. If they beat St Kilda it round 23, it will be down to percentage between them and Freo.

So, it might depend on how hard Freo spank us as to whether Carlton make finals...

At least one of those 12 names will be on the board for us to choose with our 3rd pick if Carlton wins, all of which I'd be bloody happy with.

Looking ahead at the fixture, I'd say the most likely outcome for end of season placings is a sight for sore eyes.

7. North/Freo

8. Freo/North

9. Carlton

10. Essendon

Both Carlton and Essendon miss out on finals, and our mid round pick comes directly after 10th placed Essendon (where they will take Daniher, thereby turning our pick 12 into effectively pick 11).

That would take just the slightest bit of sting out of the wound that was 2012.

I have North beating Freo next week - meaning it'll come down to Carlton vs St Kilda and, the night before, how much the Dockers [censored] us by.

Has a team ever fallen in a bigger heap than this? I mean, early form means nada, but they were flying. Injuries and losses and season over... oh my heart bleeds for them.

It gives me a warm fuzzy feeling!

.....and didn't we actually start the rot, or did we just consolidate it? Feels almost as good as our poaching of Neeld being given as a cause for the Magpies' GF failure last year.

To think the Melbourne loss has cost them the spot in the finals makes me smile! Our only "real" win for the year! No other non expansion club lost to us. Says were shocking, but they will rue that one for a long time.

I expect there are more sadists from 17 other clubs than there are Essendon supporters in that 5000 ;)

THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the
