How has he been today KC.

Cook that is?

Struggling like most of the small MFC contingent. The most impressive of the Demons is Michael "Pickles" Evans who is boring into packs as if he hasn't missed most of the season with a back injury and Leigh Williams who is lively up forward.

Meanwhile, Casey creeps closer with another goal but it's too late 11.10 to 17.7 at 24 minutes.

Casey will get mauled against that Carlton side.

....unless they are still tanking.

Interesting that Williams is doing so well. Could be that he gets a late call-up rather than Cook at some point this year the way he's improving.

Interesting thought - especially considering his near death experience only a couple of months ago.

One would have to think that if Cook cant get a call up now, with the dearth of tall forwards and the overall lack of numbers at this "junk time" of the season then maybe MN has already decided that he wont make it.

Thats because Williams is going to be one hell of a player.

Keep an eye on the kid, he is only going upwards.

Went to the game today, and while I don't like pointing the finger at young players, I have to admit that I wasn't impressed with Cook today.

He's still young and I hope today was just a bad day at the office, but he failed to have any real impact on a day where he was needed due to the lack of Melbourne players playing,

To be fair, delivery wasn't great but he didn't do enough for my liking. I know he has the tools to be a good players, I just hope he shows something in the remaining weeks this season, because if he keeps playing the way he did today, he'll have a battle to get a new contract.

I am a Cook fan and have gone into bat for him before, but today he just wasn't good enough and I was really disapointed!

Sad to hear. He was showing a lot of promise 4-5 weeks ago.

The selection of Cook at 12 was wrong especially when we could have Darling or Atley or someone that was capable of playing AFL before 2015; bloody dreadful decision.

Quite a few of our selections are turning out that way.

Yes they are and all thanks to Cameron and Prendergast I reckon you me and old dee could have done a better job. Notice how the faithful have dropped off him over the last half of the year, where's all the support gone?

Watched a bit of the Box Hill v Coburg game today and saw Maric running around, another wasted high draft pick.

Great post - balancned, with no hysteria. I hope Cook turns out to be a good pick. He's going to have to work hard to get there it would seem, based on Neelds recent comments about him not being fit enough yet

Agreed. He will have to have one mighty pre-season to ensure he "stays" a listed player. It does take key position/ruck players a few years to develop but he seems to lack the true footy smarts and to use his body.

(maybe add to the list of 10 players missed ...Jack Darling, Shaun Atley, Ben Jacobs all were missed here)

THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the
