Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Why is Todd Viney our General Manager of Player Development and Strategy?

How does it make sense to put him in charge of draft selections when the biggest decision to make this year will be if and when to draft his son? It is liking asking a surgeon to operate on his or her own child.

We should already have appointed someone else to this role, even on a temporary basis.

It is not fair on Todd.

It is not fair on Jack.

Most importantly, it is not fair on the club.

We get Jack as a free spy for the draft year.

It's a bonus.

Unless you want to get the GWS talent scout- but we couldn't afford his donut bill.

I've had a problem with this for the entirety of the appointment.

The more I have thought about it, the more the MFC baord strikes me as amateur hour.

The two most important appointments we ahve - recruiter and head coach are made on what basis? One is because he is already at the club and he is one of the boys and he's done a bit that is related. The other bloke is because Mick endorsed him.

Well, that is my being fairly disparaging and cynical...but I might not be that wrong.

What care have the board taken to appoint the two most crucial members of the FD? Who else did they interview? With what criteria did they make these appointments? Using what methods? What have their instructions been?

When I found out that psych testing had not been ued with Neeld, I just thought that they are absolutely no idea at all about hiring and firing. Anyone who has worked in HR, anyone who has done an MBA, anyone who bothers studying thi s issue to any degree will see that the support for using psych testing to heavily inform (not make itfor you) the process is indisputable. It is not perfect and you never use it is isolation, but you would be absolutely daft to not use it. Think of the risks of getting it wrong. Again. For both positions.

It's like using medical tests to diagnose problems rather than just going of the doctor saying "I reckon"

I think he is perfect.

No more skinny sorties.

I think his credentials make him over qualified.

He is exactly what we need as head recruiter to be the hardest team to play against.

If we are with neeld, then let's take it to the enth degree.

My my, sacking a guy after 1 year withou even having a chance to prove his ability as senior recruiter.

Stinks of hypocrisy rr.

Your a joke.

Are you joking? The two issues are not remotely related.

It is untenable situation to have a father in charge of recruiting his son.

It doesn't surprise me that you can't process this. You are an imbecile.

I'm not into psychological evaluations or beep test bunnies.

Even an amature like me picked darling over cook.

Dosnt take scientific analysis, just a good eye and a taste for dominance.

I think viney has got that qualities to mold a team in his character.

I genuinely believe we have an agreement with Collingwoods assistant recruiting manager. He will be in position BEFORE the draft.

The recruiting is done by a full team headed up by Viney. He's not on his own. Aside from which I think his contribution, after all his junior involvement would be beneficial.

I think that that is wrong re the storm/teacup.

THE most important people are head of recruiting and senior coach. Are you going to argue that the senior coach doesn't have to do that much really because he has assistants? Who is accountable for performance - the recruiter or his assistants? What is the point of having him there if the assistants do the work? Why are we paying him?

If this set of recruits are as lame as the last 5 years, do we fire the assistant recruiters or the haed of recruiting? What responsibility do the board have?

I honestly dont know whether its a good or bad thing. Its ODD thats for sure,

I can only summise that theres a rationale known to the board that i/we simply dont have privvy to. Im curious why though.

I couldn't disagree with you more here Tim.

I can't stand the bleeding of HR into coaching appointments.

Good luck to Clarkson getting a job if he showed his true demeanour in an interview with psyche testing.

Parkin, Sheedy, even some of the stories about Norm Smith make me think that this test would write down the better coach.

As for Viney, it isn't ideal but Eddie being Eddie made it difficult with him holding their second in charge to his contract.

It's an inexact science recruiting - and with it being a team based collective of opinions all Viney has to do is use a bit of that big Footy IQ and listen to his lieutenants.

Prendergast was lauded on here before he was lambasted - so I don't really know what people want from an interim recruiting chief. I would say that Viney would meet most of the intangible requirements.

It hasn't sat well with me either.

Ever since it took the board nearly a year to replace Leoncelli, which in effect led indirectly or directly to off field disharmony in 2011 - I don't like half baked patch up jobs or dual jobs because in essence something is being neglected.

It had slipped my mind that this was indeed only a stop gap before teh newby arrived. Cheers rpfc

in a way it even more convinces me the club has a handle on what its doing. Its all a game isnt it :)

Don't worry . They'll sort it out. Jack is already picked anyway no one doubts that.

Considering we'd committed to taking Jack when we got Todd on board , I fail to see how it's untenable. He's hardly lobbying the club to pick his son as a speculative or experimental player. Jack has all the qualities and talent that points to a long career.

So the rumour goes. If it's true, it might go some way to explaining why we had to pluck someone out of our own crew to fill the spot. It puts us in a tight spot - we've gone after one of the best in the business, but can't get him until next year. We have to do something in the mean time and I doubt any decent candidate is going to want to sit in the chair for one year while we wait for the next bloke to arrive.

It is unfortunate that we've got a "temporary" guy doing the job in such a bloody critical draft. I'm not so worried about the Jack thing, I reckon Todd will do the right thing there, but by Dog I hope Todd and his team don't stuff the early picks.

At this critical juncture in the club's future, the selection of our high draft picks should in no way shape or form be compromised by a conflict of interest.

A father charged with possibly calling out the name of his son when there are several other highly rated prospects at the pointy end of a 'superdraft' is about as compromised as you can get.

We have stuffed up too many selections under the previous head recruiter to take any chances this time. We are walking a minefield at this draft and cannot afford to put a single foot wrong.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

    MAULED by Whispering Jack

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
