Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

With Boak seemingly off the table, does anyone else think we should make Caddy a priority?

I'm a big fan. A hard, tough, skillful mid who can kick goals. Has an apprenticeship working with Bluey McKenna and Gary Jnr under his belt and should be primed as he enters his third season of footy.

I reckon we should go hard at him and trump whatever the Bomber and other clubs can offer the Suns (bar our picks 3 and 4 of course).

3,4, Caddy, Viney ... Now THAT would be a game-changing draft result for the MFC.

Don't understand the Caddy-love, hasn't done anything of note except a couple of decent games, and in my opinion he is not worth pick 12/13 by a long shot. The fact that he was pick 7 (or whatever) doesn't justify trading a high pick for him, and it looks like there are plenty of mids in this draft to meet our needs, we just have to nail the picks.

He is the type of player we need. Young and a proven talent who is on the improve. Suns won't let him go cheaply if we can entice the suns with some picks and some players we might go ok. It's trading our players that is the problem though. Who would want them? Maybe we could tell Gold Coast and any other team that the players we want to trade are really good but it's Neeld's fault they haven't produced this year or any other.

I hope we make a play for both of them! Boak, & Caddy.

That sounds like a description of Trengove. Trengove is unquestionably having a poor year, but did you know that his worst year, this year, shades Caddy's ?

http://www.finalsiren.com/PlayerCompare.asp?SeasonID=2012&PlayerName1=&PlayerName2=Jack+Trengove&ExactMatch2=true&PlayerName3=&PlayerName4=&Compare=Add+to+Comparison&SelectedPlayers=2189%2C

I like Caddy too, but I do think we become a little too intoxicated with opposition players at this time of year. In a bad year Trengove is averaging more disposals, more mark and more tackles. Trengove's first two years absolutely cream Caddy's 2012.

I have no doubt that we'll see a very different Trengove next year. Anyway, I quite like Caddy, but I wouldn't know what he's worth and I'm not desperate for him.

My thoughts on Caddy are that if Neeld can't settle on a quality mature mid (or more importantly convince one to come to us), then the next best alternative will be to go for one of these young guns that the Suns have incubated. Caddy's trajectory as a top 10 draft pick seems to be on track and if he comes to us he'd be going in to 2103 with three full pre-seasons under his belt, ready to make an immediate impact. Don't forget that he has played some decent footy in a side that has been smashed even worse than us over the past two years.

For mine a player like him would be the direct replacement for Scully, with our second compensation pick (no.4) being reward for the hell we were put through over that whole affair.

I hope we see a refreshed Trengove next year, too. I'm putting his 2012 down to learning how to play a defensive style of game that will make him a more multi-dimensional player moving forward.

That may be, but if you look at the actual trajectory of the two, Caddy is tracking nicely (2nd year) and Trengove (3rd year) has hit a ditch.

I'm not sure what point you're trying to make.

Dont recon we will will get him cheap...because GC will just say fine if you want to play like that we will bid for Viney.

I disagree. Caddy wants to come back to Melbourne. If he puts himself in the draft GC get nothing for him. if he goes into the draft i doubt GWS would be keen to take him as he want to live in Victoria nad having a disgruntled young player is no good for them. We then would have the next 2 picks (assuming Viney goes in second round which i'm confident he will). I doubt we'd use them but doggies might use their number 5, another Vic club might have a crack or we get him with pick 12-13.

If he goes into the draft GC get nothing, zilch, nada (you get the idea). So it is in their best interest to do a deal with a Vic club and we are in a good position to deal. I assume Caddy will also want to help GC get the best deal possible and this is only possible if doesn't go into the draft.

As i've posted before i could see us getting him by giving GC our pick 12ish and say Petterd (a QLD boy who may actually improve in new surroundings- and GC need some mid 20's players) for Caddy and a quiet agreement from them to not nominate Viney.

Pick 12 and an ok player is alot better than nothing.

You're not sure of my point ?

I just wanted to bring some perspective. Firstly, in my view Trengove is harshly treated by some, not withstanding an admittedly poor year, while another player is being touted as being preferable to Boak. But when you look at the facts Caddy's year is inferior to Trengove's.

As another poster pointed out Caddy has done very little to date and the fanfare outweighs his output. But that's what happens at this time of year. Players that have done next to nothing get overrated by opposition supporters.

Having said that, I like what I see when I watch him play for the reasons you mention.

I'm all for a Mitch Clark style play at Caddy. Offering up something like $250K per season would not represent value of his current commodity but would be a calculated risk to ensure we get him with likelihood he'll develop into a 250K plus player.

Worth a go at pick #12 if we get Viney second rounder. Get Cloke for huge $$'s (but no pick) and we are at least filling supporters with some hope (hopefully not the false kind).

If all that was to come to fruition we'd burst through 40,000 members before easter.

< Thinking to self, "shite, it's round 18 and just have a listen to me - what a muppet !"

I'm thinking the same thing though. It's a good marketing tool to have a good off season of signings. We just need to back it up with some wins to break 40,000.

i know our track record with injuries is bad, but hopefully we can get him on the park before 2103!!!!! sorry, couldnt help myself.

Wondering if Essendon would be prepared to part with their first round draft pick for Caddy ?

They're currently 8th with a tough run home. That's pick 11 and if they drop further it could be as low as pick 9 or even 8.

If we were interested in him our mid first round compo pick would be more favoured to be used I would think and it would comeback to a player in return. What would GC be after ? Probably the higher pick.

Problem with this is that their first round pick will be reserved to take Daniher as F/S.

They are going to struggle to get Caddy (If he is available) unless they offload some decent players to secure the necessary picks.

Overlooked that....how did I do that...

Firms as a must have for mine at the Demons. Given the indecision of Boak staying at Port. But still, I have Caddy>Boak.

Essendon supporter mate reckons the best they could offer is Gumbleton and a 2nd round pick.

Having said that he doubts they'd let Gumbleton go.

Reckon we're in a good position with pick 13 and maybe Petterd.

...and I doubt GC would take him with his injury history, they would want someone like Cremeri or Stanton and that's not going to happen. so we are in a good position if we want him.

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him.
