Howe sent straight to tribunal

Howe gets off with a reprimand.

Yeah, maybe lucky - but probably a lesser offence than FIGJAM's which was face to jumper.

Hope he only wipes his knees on upright opponent's shoulders from here on in.

I think one could say it is just about the first piece of good news we have had from a tribunal in many years.

Agree- ruddy stupid action IMO.

LOL. The finger wagging on this thread was nearly as bad as Howe's action.

So what are you saying? That Howe's action was worse than the finger waving on here? So really, you are waving 2 fingers. LOL indeed.

Turn them around, and point them at yourself.

Don't know where else to post this and don't think it needs a thread of its own.

I just tried to vote for Howie for "Mark of the Week" and lets face it I think he'll get the top three Marks of the year. But the AFL want me to give my email address and phone no. to some obscure Insurance company just to vote.

Get St&%$@#ed I say !!!!!

They can go jump as high as one of Howie's marks.

But really its getting beyond a joke, is there anything the AFL haven't sold their soul too ???

Fair call DS

For what it's worth, I did hand over my details so I could vote for the Sydney mark and I'm yet to receive any propaganda from the insurance company

Just enter [email protected] for your email, 10 random digits for phone number etc and then they count your vote

Stupid thing to do by Howie, and probably dodged a bullet there, but bloody hell I'm stoked! Him and his hangers are about the only thing that keeps me sane through these dark days.

Haven't seen it but I'm glad he has been reprimanded rather that suspended, obviously there was nothing in it judging by the penalty.

That being the case it surprises me that some on here have seen it as a hanging offence.

I can't believe that you are even asking the question, but as you are, I suggest you do some reading: http://en.wikipedia....wiki/Blood_rule

Thanks, hardtack for the great read. I'm full bottle vial now.

After working throughout the Africa's for 6 years and going out with a chick who worked for the Gates foundation doing HIV/AIDS research I have a fair idea how disease is spread via blood transmission and it's not by wiping it on someones shorts.

I have my opinion on this and it won't change. If he wiped it on his face it would be a different story but it was on his shorts FFS. This has been my point all along....

I think there are one or two blood borne diseases other than HIV, which can be transmitted via cuts or, I don't know, wiping blood on someone.

Yet none of those are the reason that the blood rule was devised. Nor does that render my point invalid if you substitute "HIV/AIDS" with "blood borne diseases". But yes, semantics are easier than real arguments

Glad he got off, thought they'd send a message though

Lucky but I think it was the right result. When he gets reported next it'll count against him.

What work were you doing in Africa? Was it directly related to the HIV/AIDS issue? If not, then that means absolutely nothing. I went out with an art teacher for years, does that qualify me as an art teacher?

The fact is, blood on any item of clothing in a body contact sport such as AFL, ARL, Basketball etc, can come into contact with open wounds on other players...or are you only seeing this as being an issue relating to the player whose shorts had the blood applied to them?

Whether we like it or not, the blood rule exists and will continue to exist and the players must respect that fact.

Oh and yes, I know that wiki page I referenced was a pretty poor effort, but perhaps the official information booklet aimed at sport participants in Australia "Blood rules OK" will explain it better... http://sma.org.au/wp-content/uploads/2009/10/Blood_rulesOK-booklet.pdf

WTF? Where did I speak of being qualified?

Stop searching mate because I've stopped reading.

All good.

Cheers.

Perhaps it was something to do with your statement:

"After working throughout the Africa's for 6 years and going out with a chick who worked for the Gates foundation doing HIV/AIDS research I have a fair idea how disease is spread via blood transmission and it's not by wiping it on someones shorts."

... to me that seemed to be saying that this meant you were talking with some sort of authority on the subject. I merely question how that was so and offered my opinion as to why wiping blood on someone's shorts could actually lead to the transmission of blood borne infection to other players.

As you say, "all good".

Some Collingwood supporter just suggested to me that the tribunal had been excessive in the Howe verdict. No week off; sentenced to play again with the Dees... at the Jihad.

I think I agree with you A softer sentence may have been to suspend him

In closing, I work in mining and the company I work for is probably the most proactive in the world in the fight against discrimination and treatment of HIV/AIDS. In the time I worked in one particular country I lost many good employees to this disease and other like malaria and TB.

If you want to nit-pick my statements and search the web for articles to justify your position then be my guest but you're wasting both our times. My 'fair idea' is relatively well educated, thank you.

THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the
