Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Now it's time for the serious question

Rr, I gave neeld a chance. I have no agenda but to win games of footy.

Ps, arnt you the bloke that thought jones was no good? Yes

Pps, also, arnt you the one that blindly followed Bailey? Yes

Ppps, and your the bloke who wanted neeld over malthouse? Yes

Rr, your opinions have zero merit. You are a mental pigmie, who obviously inherited money because you lack of clarity, insight and perspective would leave you almost unemployable. I have had enough of your personal attacks against players who give 100%, but are coached by b graders.

Your opinions are worse than useless, they are downright wrong.

To me, you are the only one on this site that disgusts me. An arrogant loser.

1) Never in 3000+ posts have I said Jones is no good.

2) I was one of Dean Bailey's chief critics.

3) I actually started threads last season calling for the club to look at Malthouse.

So ... wrong on all counts Tona.

And if you're going to call someone a mental "pigmie", at least learn how to spell the word before you do so.

Otherwise people might think "your a baffon".

May or may not be our worst year, but I've NEVER in my 30 years of being a Demon been as without hope as I am this year.

It feels like I'm not even following footy this year, and like my team doesn't have a soul at all.

I've never had a season before where my mood is so effected by it on non-game days.

Its funny how we can all look at the same thing and come away with very different views and thinkings.

I'm actually glad we are having the year we are having... thankgod its finally happened.

What you may well ask ?

Simple. We are stripping bare a team who has been very over-rated and deconstructing it back to a point whereby something can actually be done about it.

An analogy was used in another thread about house reno's and this is exactly what this year is about. The FD is tearing away at the fabric of 'cover-up' . Its laying bare for , most importanly the FD, all to see and ajudicate. Despite all the hurrah and the hype we actually arent much chop. Despite this I see much good coming from it. I see hope , and real hope for a change, not the rushed papered over despair dressed up as false-dawn type that we've trooped out year after year.

I think its marvellous that finally the problems are being not only addressed by recognised in the first place. This club has been in denial so long it started to beleive its own spin. The revolving has stopped. Some hard to swallow self truths are being dealt with.

We play rubbish football because at least half our team simply wouldn't rate by comparison to the top teams of now. Strangely some do and its these players together with an injection of better and more capable kids that will , in years to come, bring us back to the game.

i would only despair as some of you do if I thought this was going to continue to go on ad infinitum, to carry on as we were with no change, just bumbling along..

You have to tear down the facade before you can actually construct something of substance and I truly believe that wil NOW happen.

All the snake oil salesmen have been [censored] off and realists brought in.

Dont confuse the idea of accepting where we are on the ladder or our dismal performances with joy as Im not happy we play like this but I am buoyed in knowing that change has been implemented, real change that will result in real success, not just fleeting glimpses of a never materialising tomorrow.

Hey, Range, not so fast on 'all counts'. What about the inherited wealth that seems to be the cause of all your problems?

The jury is out on this one doctor. The old man's is in pretty good health so we'll have to wait until around 2045 to see if Tona's prediction of employment problems plays out

WTF?

What an absolute joke of a post this is - I reckon you just lost about half the people who would have agreed with you.

Aside from picking the wrong 'RR' (I assume) the 'mental pigmie' (sic) and the 'inherited wealth' lines are just ripe for sarcastically sardonic satire.

Please take this in the best way possible - you are much more readable of late.

Less ellipses is the key...

Huh, that last line is ironic.

Been thinking about Brocky playing OK at Carlton, Cheeny at Hawks and how both took a season or two to hit their straps at those clubs. And it occurred to me that those two players had to cross the void that the Melb team is now trying to cross, before they were good enough to play for their new teams.

Not sure if the theory has merit... but it may be he silver lining we're all looking for.

Unfortunately, as an MFC supporter, we have a lot of possible years to choose from.

2012 to me is as bad as any other year. There were high hopes, misplaced maybe, led by a new coach and having Clark. The level of uncompetitiveness that we've managed to display at times this year has been nothing short of embarrassing, simply terrible.

2008 was the same. 2009 wasn't much better. In terms of disappointment, 2007 was also terrible, given we'd made the semis and been the top-ranked Victorian side in 2006, but that year was derailed with injuries and the Daniher saga.

What a happy thread.

We had a very old list by 2007. Full of good to very good players that were now past their best, plus a few 'top up' from other clubs. Our younger players were either over-rated or non-existent.

Simple. We are stripping bare a team who has been very over-rated and deconstructing it back to a point whereby something can actually be done about it.

I agree, when we compare to 2010/11 we did win 8 games each year but to me that was on the back of individuals having extremely good years, 2010 we had 2 all Australians Frawley and Jamar with Green extremely close, Jamar was the best tap ruckman in the competition and we unleashed a mid sized forward in Jurrah that was amazing. We started to beat teams that were bottom 4 teams and some real highlights with Sydney and Collingwood, 2011 the same we beat up on the bottom sides but got smashed by the teams that were competing for top 8 positions. To me again it was our senior players playing well against younger midfields.

2012, Jamar injured and even the games he has played his tap work has been predictable, Moloney, Green, Frawley are no where near the levels they have been over the past 2 years Jurrah hasn't really played. Our young players haven't taken the huge step we had been hoping for but again we are seeing snippets from Blease, McKenzie, Tapscott, Watts, Grimes and McDonald, Trengove has to learn about balance in his game I think his defensive acts have been good but he is so intent to do this he forgot about getting the football.

I think what we have seen with Jones and recently Sylvia gives us two high quality midfielders, I still have hopes Trengove will continue to develop along with Blease, Tapscott and Grimes that gives us 5 players that should have the quality to improve our midfield, we add in 2-3 more and hope Mckenzie gets better offensively. We need 20-25 midfielders on our list, any given week you need 10-12 players working through your midfield.

2012 has highlighted what most of us have been banging on about for 3-4 years, we have players on our list that just aren't good enough to play at this level. They have had every opportunity but they just don't improve, add to this the massive drop in form of Moloney, Jamar and Frawley, I would add Green to this list but his form last year wasn't much better, no Jurrah, Mitch Clark out for half of the year, plus other injuries these are the reason why we seem to be so far behind 2010/11.

It's easier to think of the few good years we've had rather then all the years we've sucked.

2012 has been awful, there is no sugar coating how bad we are. Still, it is a poignant comment that Neeld inherited this list, not created it. Give him time to mould the list in a way that he sees fit, and then see what happens.

Too sensible-Surely we can just lash out and blame Neeld for all our ills ?

It has been awful since 186 and not much has changed onfield.

We need the Draft & FA like never before.

Our situation will not change like Meth Coke, they have a list.

We the MFC are now right on the edge.

If we draft badly again i doubt the MFC will survive in its present form beyound this broadcast deal.

What you say may be true but when I see a player/players unable to execute a simple 30 metre pass to a team mate, when under no pressure,

I reckon it's a lack of skill. We seem incapable of displacing the basic principles of football and it's not getting better.

Jetta made some unbelievable errors last night as did Garland and Frawley.

Mate skill has nothing to do with that. Can those players execute those passes? Yes, of course, so they have that skill. Do they? No. Why? Because they have no belief. Whose job is it to instill that belief, or at least help them generate it? The coaching staff.

Hope is gone.

In 2008 I had hope.

They have taken that now and all I know is apathy.

We are absolutely pathetic its hard to concieve it's even possible how bad we are.

In fact I contend that to be this bad you actually have to work at it because it's not possible to be so shite without effort.

Yep. But I have more hope now than I did in 2008. Although through the weight of losses my memory gets more clouded every week. In fact, as each loss goes by I feel less pain.

Why do I have more hope now than 2008 ? Probably because I believe we are closer to out of the mire than the stink we were emersed in; back in 2008 with a club list of ageing servants and a severe decline; A clublist reminiscent of a carcass of swiss cheese.

More hope now because we are healthier off field to invest in our FD to bring a rise out of our playing list.

Bailey = failure

Neeld will make us a better side. But most demon supporters are weak - you can't turn things arround in six months. We have a weak list, and until the team can be formed, axing the weak and recruiting for our structures, then we can't make great improvements. But on the notable side, we have better structures than last year. Even though we have lost more games, I reckon we have won more quaters than last year.

When I see players in the clear and under no pressur miss a team mate by 10 metres then I put that down to lack of skill. It happens too often and these are basic skill errors not any lack of belief.

If a player can't pass accurately over 30 metres then he's in the wrong business.

Interesting (and depressing) the number of people who believe that while this year may not be the worst on field it is the one giving them the least hope for the future. I am 180 degrees the other way. As appalling as the on field performance has been this year, I have much more hope for the future than I had at any time in the Bailey years.

To me, Bailey's downhill skiier game plan was always going to give us wins against poor opposition but have us blasted out of the park by any team with a strong defensive style. Under that scenario, we may eventually have played finals, but never got any higher than perhaps about 6th.

Now I believe we're building a team that can challenge in the future. And I don't mean the very distant future. I don't expect finals in 2013, but 2014 will be a possibility.

And for what it's worth, I'm old enough to remember the late 60s and the 70s. I reckon we were much, much worse then. We may have won more games, but the distance between us and the top was much greater. We won more games, because there were other teams down there with us (Fitzroy, South Melbourne, Footscray and North Melbourne until the early 70s).

For all you without hope, please do not give up. The tide will turn.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

    MAULED by Whispering Jack

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
