Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Liam Jurrah - committal hearing in Alice Springs

Recommended Posts

Jurrah  urged to 'be strong' ahead of committal hearing

A committal hearing is a proceeding before a magistrate who is required to determine the question whether there is sufficient evidence to justify the case against an accused. If there is such evidence then the matter goes to trial. In Liam Jurrah's case, that would most likely mean a trial by jury at some time in 2013. However, the magistrate can decide there is insufficient evidence for a case to succeed and therefore throw out the charges.

We can't for legal reasons comment too much about the case but I'm sure that the whole Demon community wishes Liam well and hopes that the best possible outcome including peace within his community can be achieved within the near future.

I think it's great knowing that Liam has the support of the club and his mentor (and biographer) Bruce Hearn Mackinnon who will be at his side during this difficult time. I'm sure he will also be in the minds of thousands of others who won't physically be there but wish him all the best and look forward to a speedy return to both his home community of Yuendumu and to the football fields on which he provides us with the gift and excitement of his great skills.

Yeah -- all the best Liam.

This does put life into perspective - there are some things more important than footy, but I am sure all here would just love to see you back on the field, fit and well, ASAP.

Liam couldn't hope for a more empathetic magistrate than David Bamber. Very aware of all the difficulties LJ has faced. Bamber is from Melbourne and a Demons supporter.

How's the man that was injured? Isn't that a concern as well.

Nobody's questioning the welfare of the victim or expressing a lack of concern for him or that he wasn't injured in an incident which took place that night but the case is about whether Liam is guilty of assaulting him and others. As I understand it, Liam will be pleading not guilty to all charges.

After (allegedly) being belted with a machete he received six stitches (and a pat on the bottom) and was as right as rain after a bit of a rest and some good hospital tucker.

Some allege that the machete was no machete at all but rather a Nulla Nulla. There may be doubt that Jurrah was armed at all.

Just musing about setting a precedence, will we be funding criminal cases for all employees in future, what about members.

I am hopeful the case will be funded out of his contract, plus the numerous airfares and accommodation, taxis and meals costs for support peoples.

If he's innocent, well and good, hope he may pay us back one day on the footballing fields.

All I have to say on the matter.

Well I guess the club should keep some money aside for future defamation cases eh Bluey.

Liam Jurrah represents a significant financial investment. Therefore, it would follow that the club would want to protect that investment as best it can.

After reading the Hun today I see no real point locking him up. Would do more good just trying to work this mess in his hometown out. If there is a way to work it out.

Not unless you turn the clock back 300 years.....

Not sure if it appeared in the media down south ( i've been up in Darwin for the last 2 weeks) but there is an article in the NT News today which is chilling reading and goes a long way to casting light on what Liam is up against. Apparently the men involved in the fight which precipitated his involvement were all friends of his and he was forced to choose sides. Lose-lose situation.

The situation in the community is completely toxic and appears no end in sight in the short term. Most recent episode involved the Southies threatening the West to the point where the latter left town, the Souths pinched the West's community bus and ran down all their humpies (their word not mine) crashed the bus and set fire to it.

Sad for Liam and his kin.

From the persepctive of a Melbourne supporter I hope he gets off but if he bashed someone in the head with a machete (or a nulla nulla) then he deserves whatever anyone else in that situation would get. Those type of assaults in particular can't be condoned no matter who did it.

It began days ago. Apparently bluey has a history.

You'll get used to Bluey...despite the fact that he seems to like the sound of his own keyboard, he does occasionally say something worthwhile...just not this time.

Yep, agree.

But sounds like a shocking situation in that community in general.

    TRAINING: Friday 19th April 2024

They are out for a run just as it starts raining. It didn't last long, ended up a reasonable session weather wise.  Light duties, BBB, rehab Farris-White, Melky, Salem and Spargo, all with private trainers. They are all playing soccer, huge amount of noise. 36-40 (difficult to get a count) in the main squad, biggest I've seen it in ages. Choco is barking out the orders. Goody has intense body language as he observes. Bowey in a lime green cap (no contact), and in the sim

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

    MAULED by Whispering Jack

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
