YESSSS AND YEEESSSS! Oh my God is our run of bad luck finally ending? PLEASE GOD!

That was my example smarta$$...

Ruined career, contract paid out by St Kilda, all round mess. Bad for everyone. Was proven innocent.

Technicality - was found "not guilty".

Nobody is ever "proven innocent".

Ummmm legally you're either guilty or innocent. Innocent until proven guilty, he was proven not guilty, hence innocent.

I understand what you're getting at, but it's a harmful path to go down.

Just reiterating - not as quoted "proven not guilty", but "not proven guilty".

Maybe the best thing would be for someone to be speared in the leg.Traditional punishment for the bloke that stabbed the other to death.

At least that would stop the feud.I have lived in the NT for the last 30 years. The violence in our Indigenous community is unbelievable.Maybe

highest in the world. All fueled by the legal western drug called alchohol. All very sad.

Looks like the case against the wizard could be nulla nulla and void.

The burden of proof for prosecution is "beyond reasonable doubt".......sounds as if, assuming that this witness is regarded as credible, or more credible than Basil, there is significant "reasonable doubt".

If Basil was, as is claimed, repeatedly hit with a machete and an axe, it is interesting that he had one (large) scalp laceration only, and no skull fractures.

Doubting?????

Painfully predictable result coming, but satisfying nonetheless.

Just a shame we had to wait so long to get to this point.

This is a pre-trial. I understand this to mean that the judge will decide if there is enough evidence to go to trial. Hopefully more conflicting stories to come as I believe there are around 13 witnesses to be called. A judge in that scenario you would hope rules that it would be difficult to gain a conviction if there are a lot of non-sober witnesses with conflicting evidence.

Fingers crossed.....

I don't even think you could call it "large" Mono. 6 stitches is a glorified scratch.

If old Basil was as cactus, and the scene as chaotic, as reported the "injury" could have occurred in an all manner of forms.

NB. This prosecutor Steve Robson must really be some special kind of plank to go ahead with such a flimsy case, with unreliable witnesses.

Looks like the stereotypical prosecutor desperate to make a name for themselves & getting the sniff of a big name in a case with a large media focus, ignored better judgment and pushed ahead with charges.

Only to embarrass himself and others.

Although, for any self-respecting QC, discrediting the witness statements of an angry mob who were mainly blind drunk, should be like fishing with grenades.

Court reporter on 3AW just said that the charge sheet doesn't even mention machete. It lists the weapons as the nulla nulla and an axe.. not sure how precise they need to be with the language though.

My fingers and toes have never been so crossed.. if the charges are dropped, and if LJ can get himself fit and firing for 2013, the world will be a brighter place and the MFC's stocks will increase dramatically.

Does anyone know exactly what a nulla nulla is?

Generally speaking it is a stick of wood, two feet or so long and generally lumpy at the striking end.

Nullu nullu is a short heavy club.

Great little weapon.

If the pre trial continues in this way I would imagine that Liam will be congratulated by the Magistrate for showing restraint and trying to settle the argument peacefully.

What an absolute joke; if Liam is exonerated the club should never allow him to go to Alice springs ever again.

Agree and I bet once he does get off his injury heals up pretty quick too.

Yes I do follow Melbourne i'm a gold member. You remind me of a lot of people that say ' i'm not a racist but....'

And do you know many of these people Sorge? You must have some strange mates. I don't recall ever using that phrase. As I inferred on this particular forum my interest is the MFC and Jurrah the footballer.

I am not interested in using this forum to pursue some other agenda,

So traditional punishments are OK then? Maybe like the stoning to death of adulterers, and rape victims (only female participants in the act of course), and the amputation of the hands of thieves? How about other traditional practices like female genital mutilation, in the name of respecting traditional values?

We rightly condemn other countries for allowing these practices to continue, but are we to condone this one here at home?

Although I have not spent 30 years in the NT, I do have some first hand appreciation of some of the problems faced by indigenous communities, and intra-comunal violence (including domestic violence largely directed against women) is probably close to highest on the list.

Does the sanctioned perpetuation of violence, like spearing the thigh - and people can and do die from this - actually help break the cycle of violence?

I don't have the answer, and I would love to meet anyone who does, but I doubt if encouraging or allowing anyone to spear each other is going to help.

THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the
