Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

According to Brad Hardie, Cloke has now been offered 7 years by the dees. Didn't Mark Robinson say that Cloke would be signed at Collingwood by last Friday????? I'm thinking the Cloke saga may be far from over

Our forward area belongs to Mitch Clarke...I don't want anyone else (especially Cloke) taking up his space. I understand we need several tall forwards but Mitch owns the space and he is numero uno! We need a tall, strong second fiddle not an underperforming, selfish sod.

Also don't like Cloke's attitude to negotiations...reminds me too much of that No. 1 P_ick!

I reckon the worst case scenario is not spending the money and just drafting kids again with plenty of spare room in the Cap. We have an obvious lack of A grade 25+ year olds on our list. If we can snare Cloke or Goddard or any player of that ilk, without interfering with our drafting then I reckon it's a win win. No doubt Misson would have a good idea of whether Goddard is past his best, or just having an off year and in need of a change. Goddard and Watts playing up the wing would be handy.

If they're talking about 7 years...well I guess if it's heavily front loaded it doesn't make much of a difference whether it's 5 or 7 does it? The total cost, and to what extent we're sacrificing spending the money on a more suitable player is what matters.

why would he come to us? seriously. Spend his last 4ish years of AFL football rebuilding a club? i highly doubt it.

I'd love it if he came, i really would but lose the fantasy for a second and be realistic.

Call me doom and gloom, call me pessimistic, call me sad, call me what you like but i am just being realistic.

Well he probably won't, that's why the club will target any available player who would add value. As mentioned, we got Clark across. Just takes a big offer and a great Powerpoint presentation.

Same reason Mitch Clark came to us. With the right attitude to...

attitude isn't the issue. AGE is the issue. Clark is a couple of years younger than Goddard and would still be around during our hopeful "premiership window".

Don't get me wrong here, i would love it if Goddard came to us, but i just don't see it happening.

If we had had shown some real potential this season and were in the 8 if not at least pushing to get in, then sure, i perhaps would think he would consider it.

But the whole league regards us as a long way off from achieving this, and whose to blame them.

I just don't see Goddard wanting to play out the rest of his career building up a club so when he retires it can push for a Premiership (which lets be honest is most likely 5 years off, at least).

He seems like a good guy, but not that good of a guy that he would give up chances to play in premierships with other clubs to do this for us.

Please prove me and my pessimism, oops i mean realism, wrong Brendon.

People of demonland your thinking about this all wrong. If we get goddard and he starts to play well according to some on here we could then trade him. Can I start a trade Goddard thread now?

When has an established champion ie Goddard switched clubs in later half of career and ridden a new wave of club success and remained a champion?

Ian Stewart, can't think of many others. North's 70s Premiership trio all good for topping up flag tilt only.

Maybe Paul Roos.

Too much chance of just topping up their super.

Wouldn't touch Goddard at this stage of his career. He's late 20's and won't be around when we're decent again. Not only that he isnt a good leader for our kids. He's a hot-head who still hasn't learnt to shake a tag and just cracks the shits. He doesn't fit into our list at all. He hasn't played good football in over a year.

We need to look for midfielders who are early-mid 20s. Goddard is too old, and not good enough anymore.

Age was important re Clarke because he cost us our top pick, which may have ended in a 200+ gamer.

Not so much if we can get Godders with a $$$ contract only.

He would help with our maturity & quality of depth. We start to bat deeper.

Boak would be the biggest off the bat help. But not at the expence of our top 2 picks.

I'm of the view that Boak & Goddard would help us more than just Cloke.

Pass on Goddard for mine, class player with silky skills but not likely to improve from his best which was probably 2010. Where would he play anyway, yes he could probably play wherever he liked but I would prefer we went hard and spend money on a player that own a particular position on the ground, not just floats around.

Exactly i wouldn't be paying lots of coin for Goddard, he isn't overly that quick and tends to fade out of games ( although he is a good user of the pill we need both speed and skill) . Would Rather we pay for a Cloke Boak Caddy or Beams

Tends to fade out of games?? Seen any grand finals lately??

Will conceed he has had a poor year but is a genuine star.

Beams would be great but couldn't impact a game like goddard can when in form.

We would also have to giveup something big to get Boak, Caddy or Beams in the form of picks or players, whereas Goddard can simply walk to us.

He is 27yo, plays middle, back and forward, a respected on field general who will add much needed class to our mid field and will show our boys how to get the job done..

We have money to burn and need to pay someone big bucks over the next couple to make the minimum TPP. rather give it to someone who has earnt that coin and that certainly isn't Cloke or any of the above.

Big yes for me on Goddard.

That's a bit unfair on Beams. He is still very young and has a good upside (on field). At the same age Scot Thompson didn't have the same impact either

Plus I haven't noticed Goddard's impact on games so much this year

As others have pointed out there are other issues with Beams, he might be expensive ($$$s + trade) and there may be little chance he would leave the Filth

but....I still rate him as a midfield player

This was my point excactly. Wether or not he would even want to come here is another question but to get someone of

his talent and experience for only money could be a good get. And yes I know he may be getting on but perhaps a new

club would rejuvenate him. Worth a look I think.

Good point. With free agency it's hard to ignore that it only costs cash. We're not trading away our future, only spending what we need to spend now. Another way to phrase it would be 'are we willing to cut 3 older players with no potential for growth for the salary of a 27 year old Goddard'. I'd vote yes to that.

Goddards got issues, has anger problems, is mentally soft, highly egotistical and lacks discipline.

Why would we want Goddard?

I dont think Boak is all he is cranked up to be either, but at least he has it together, is a leader,

has a great attitude, a good family lad and loved by his team mates.

Surely this isn't possible - This would be out to Neeld's 3rd coaching contract (assuming 3 year terms) and it will burden the coach and the Club with a lumbering 'white elephant'. Surely the Board wouldn't allow this. Let's hope Collingwood sign hiim up fast!

    DEPTH CHARGE by Whispering Jack

The jubilation on the coach’s face as he danced a celebratory jig by the playing bench after the final siren sounded to record his team’s four-point victory over the Demons when the teams last met, said it all.    On that rainy Friday night at the Adelaide Oval, Ken Hinkley’s young midfield secured much more than four points on offer. The victory over one of the big dogs of the competition after a succession of wins over some of its lesser lights gave his team respect and validation fo

A FORK IN THE HAWK by George on the Outer

For too long in the past, Demon fans became habitually sick and tired of watching the Hawks hand out thrashings to their side. But Melbourne’s empahtic 55-point win at the MCG on Saturday has truly put a fork in the Hawk and turned that history well and truly on its head. The Demons have now won nine of their last ten encounters with the other result, a draw.     And like a fork, it was the multi-pronged options that Melbourne had all across the ground.  It certainly helped that Hawthorn
