Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Howe far away.

sign him up. But 4 years is too long...still unproven in big games.

When did we have one of those?

Howe would have been 15 the last time we played in one...

A potential 'draw-card' (if he's not one already) and definitely a 'must sign'. Give him good money (front ended) but for 3 years max imo ............ and hope like hell that he doesn't come back to earth too awkwardly after one of his speccies.

Like Mitch did.

He's been shaky with some of his set shots every now and then, but he is generally an excellent field kick. I don't see why he is being labelled a poor kick.

Watch the replay of this weeks game. Admitedly, I've only watched the first half (on replay). Can't recall one kick of Howes that is on target.

Was just thinking that. Who do we have who has actually played a big game? Green, possibly Davey?

3 years, perhaps with incentives. Front load if possible. Avg $300k per yr.

That is very generous for a second year player with skill issues.

If he is the star many say, negotiate a new contract half way through his new 3 yr deal.

this ^^^^^

As stated you can always renogotiate aong the journey if warranted .

Howe is now and has always been a terrrible kick, why because he occassionally misses a target, and a few of the "glass half empty" posters on this board say he is so it must be true....sigh....I wish I could be so continually negative about my Club, the players, the administration etc etc

If we let Howe go, we have made one massive mistake

And Trident, Howe wears 38, check the replay again

There is the reality however that a players such as this should not be offered 4 years. 3 yrs should be absolute maximum and I think he probably deserves that but the coin is the interesting one. Opposition supporters and commentators love him ("he's incredible") so I suspect there will be a lot of love for him at the trade table if he chooses that path.

I clearly remember Neitz and Robbo being terrible set shots for goal in their early days. Both worked very hard to rectify their weaknesses and became elite goal kickers.

Howe definitely needs to work on his kicking and we have two of the best past players to teach him.

Exactly what I was thinking. His talent is unquestioned, and from what I've heard from Neeld he is a hard worker. His kicking can be improved, definitely get pen to paper for a 3 year deal IMO.

Neitz and Robbo were exciting forwards but I wouldn't label either as an "elite goal kicker". I'd reserve that term for Tony Lockett, Peter Hudson and many others. I still recall Darren Jarman kicking them from everywhere one day at the MCG. Think he may have kicked 9 straight.

4 years for player who still by your own admission needs to "learn to kick"?

I like Howe as a player but he's far from proven at this stage.

BUMS ON SEATS!

SIGN HIM UP...going to be a star! will cost $ though.

Neitz and Robbo very differento as well!! Clark fits the Neitz mould with the added bonus of playing ruck. Howe fits the Robbo mould (coming soon). Agree with comments re Huddo and Lockett add Dunstall Mckenna to that

Love Howie! He will stay, 2 or 3 years would be my guess. He is a great snap for goal but his set shot kicking is abysmal. He needs to really wotk on a getting a set shot routine that works over the off season.

"Howe has played 27 games and kicked 30 goals......wow that is inaccuracy..... just over a goal a game.....imagine how poor he will be in a season or two with 100 games under his belt"

I repeated obviously it hasn't sunk in to some, for ******** sake he has played 27 games, he may miss occassionally, so does Travis Cloke.....hands up who wouldn't take Travis if we can get him

I hope Howe signs a five year deal just to peeve the naysayers on here

Neeld loves him. He's on record as saying that he thinks Howe can become an elite mid.

He'll be offered 3 years at a minimum.

But he is generally a very good kick.

And he wasn't exactly Robinson Crusoe last week.

Spot on, his so-called "skill issues" are way overblown, verging on urban myth. He's a gem.

I would have thought that contracts can be signed for any period with certain conditions attached including ???need to kick better/

Howe certainly seems to have plenty of potential and could represent the highlight player that an improving club needs to become a force. He could also be injured and never recover to that status. Contract should be dependent on performance and would have conditions for terminating. Contracts need to be in line with industry standards and variation for achievment of extra or special results. Howe is well on the way to performing extra and should be encouraged to do even more to get greater rewards. I would imagine in a team game that some of the rewards are also dependent upon others performance and even this can be factored into an agreement.

Obviously I have never seen an AFL contract but I would would hope that MFC has some of the best in the business working them out.

    TRAINING: Friday 19th April 2024

They are out for a run just as it starts raining. It didn't last long, ended up a reasonable session weather wise.  Light duties, BBB, rehab Farris-White, Melky, Salem and Spargo, all with private trainers. They are all playing soccer, huge amount of noise. 36-40 (difficult to get a count) in the main squad, biggest I've seen it in ages. Choco is barking out the orders. Goody has intense body language as he observes. Bowey in a lime green cap (no contact), and in the sim

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

    MAULED by Whispering Jack

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
