Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

GWS (U-17's) Mini Draft

dee-luded

Recommended Posts

I was just thinking what we'd have of Interest & of potential value to Sheeds?

Would anyone consider a swap of Jurrah + +, for 1st Pick in the MiniDraft? - (Martin or Hogan)

Are they're any other players you consider would be a worthwhile trade, instead of Picks,,, to GWS for the 'Mini Pick'.

#Edit: I've edited the title to encompass the drafts this year, Inc' the mini draft & Rookie/Preseason.

Id be happy to look at trading jurrah regardless. I think he will only ever be a flash in the pan player unfortunately. the odd patch of brilliance but many games with not much to offer and regular injuries. i hope im wrong and would want nothing less than a successful career for him regardless of teh team he plays in but im not convinced.

Id like to keep our picks. I think sheeds would look at moloney as someone who could stiffen up their midfield but moloney alone would not do. we'd have to offer somone else as well.

perhaps moloney and jurrah for hogan. that would be a result.

Maybe not popular for many people, but I'd love to get the young Martin or the Big 17Yr old, Hogan (194 - 91Kegs)... Super stars of the future.

At this stage I'd love to get Martin, imo he is everything we need. Fast and skilled, he would compliment the rest of our midfield group so well. On the other hand I'm not sold on Hogan, the kid is massive, but how much of his dominance is due to his size/strength advantage?

Pick 3 for the 1st u/17 pick. This will be the best offer GWS gets, allowing us to grab Viney with our second rounder and either Toumpas or Grundy with pick 4. Add to that a very decent mid first round pick.

Pick 1 - Whitfield (GWS)

Pick 2 - ??????? (GC)

Pick 3 - Grundy (MELB) Very competitive big man & has defensive side to his game.

Pick 4 - Trade Pick 4 + Morton + Bate for Martin (Pick 1 - U/17)

Pick 13 - Trade Pick 13 + Petterd + Spencer or Bennell for Josh Caddy + 4th round pick

Pick 23ish - Jack Viney

Free Agent: Travis Cloke (COLL)

Moneyballers: David Ellard (CAR), Daniel Archer (STK)

I'd be absolutely gobsmacked if GWS pass up on Grundy in favour of another onballer. They have plenty of those, and a very bare ruck cupboard.

And there's no way they'll accept Morton and Bate. Pick 4 + Morton + Bate = Pick 4.

GC will NOT accept players in trades. They already have to cut 7 from their primary list.

Is there some way we can get some realism in here?

If Collingwood were willing to accept pick 4 for Sidebottom (hypothetically), would you also chuck in Macaffer and Krakouer for pick 13?

Jesus. Clubs don't care about steak knives, unless they're picks, or pick upgrades.

Pick 1 will be Whitfield. GWS will only take Grundy if they have Pick 2.

Morton & Bate are still young players who have been in the AFL system for awhile and I believe will do well at another club with fresh starts. Both were 1st Round Picks. Far from steak knives.

GWS & GC have too beef up on current AFL players to be competitive. They cant keep drafting all young players. GWS will lose McDonald, Brogan & maybe Power. I know GWS can still sign uncontracted players from other clubs, but Im not sure if they can from Melbourne or Bulldogs? Scully & Ward already done.

GC cant sign uncontracted players and will need too trade for them. If GC goes around with the same team next year they will only tread water down the bottom. Petterd, Spencer & Bennell still young but have been in the AFL system. Petterd goes home, Spencer halfway home, Bennell joins cuz.

GWS & GC still get Picks 4 & 13 from us.

GWS & GC would be crazy to bid for Viney. They wont!

Regardless of no-one taking Grundy ahead of us, why would we take him when we don't need him?

We are better off taking the 3rd and possibly 4th best mid in the draft.

If we can get Jack Martin & Josh Caddy through trades we wouldnt need another midfielder. Add Viney to these two.

Grundy would be an awesome pick up for us. Is a gun! And he would be best availabe if still there at Pick 3.

Jamar has 3 years left with us. That would be it. Gawn aint guaranteed!

Give GWS the option too take Gawn in Jack Martin trade.

That would leave us Jamar, Stef Martin & Grundy as ruckman. Grundy & Martin being more versatile than Jamar!

isn't Jack Martin a skinny skinny outside midfielder?

Why is he a pick 1. I would much rather a Hogan type.

If we get yet another skinny as a rake first round pick (Cook, Morton, Watts) I will give up.

Look at Pies, Geelong for clues on how to win a premiership. they have very few skinny types and are usually the last ones picked anyway.

By the time Jack Martin reaches the age of 22 (the age he'll begin to make a big impact) Cloke will be 30+

Its either one or the other in my books. I can't see us winning a premiership with those 2 in the side.

You want us to blow pick three on a Ruck? You don't burn high draft picks on rucks unless they are certainties. Look how well Kreuzer is working out for Carlton right now. There are three things we are desperate for right now. Quality mids, a legitimate small forward and a decent back pocket. Grundy may go early, but it won't be to us.

I also have to wonder why you have GWS with the first pick. As it stands they are in 17th and GC are looking like keeping the wooden spoon.

If we are going to look at trading for one of these kids it would have to be with pick 4. In terms of other clubs outbidding us there is absolutely no difference between 3 and 4, but it would give us the pick ahead of GWS rather than behind, which could be a huge difference. There is a slight risk of being forced to use 3 on Viney, although we could always leave him to GWS if they force the issue, but it's a worthwhile one. It would leave us in a very good position in the draft and bet us access to a very good kid in next years draft as well.

I can't see them taking Grundy with they're first pick,,,, Unless they recruit 2 or 3 Mature bodies around the middle,,, to give them Instant competitiveness. I think I read, (can't find the article) With Power, Jnr MacDonald, & someone else retiring at the end of this Year.

They need instant mature players to start to get wins. They don't want another season like this.

So I think??? they'll need hard bodied young Mids from the draft.

GCSuns are in the same boat.

Yes. Lets blow it on a ruck! Grundy is a certainity. Do it for sure.

Gold Coast will beat GWS next game! Tank Tank. GC & Guy McKenna need a win desperately & GWS want Whitfield.

Melbourne will not use Pick 3 on Viney. GWS and GC are not stupid enough to bid. Because we will call there bluff and they will get him. Guaranteed! Then he will come to us.

Mids. mids and more mids please. No to Hogan due to need and also was unimpressed by him. I can see Martins talent but cant work out where he fits. Pick 3/4 is too high for mine compared to other players on offer.

NB: How quickly people forget how good Jurrah is.

Forget?

I've never thought he was a great player. Flashy,, Yes, Talented, Yes,,, but a good player, No. Not Yet, anyway.

I just hope we dont deal Pick 3 to GWS.

They will pick up Whitfield & Grundy. That would be a disaster for the comp and a big win for them.

Everyone who was against us picking Watts before Nik Nat should be satisfied if we pick up Grundy. He will be super!

We would have to give up one of our first 2 picks to secure pick 1or 2 in the mini draft. Otherwise, a highly valued player (eg Watts, Frawley, Jones, etc). Too many other clubs would do this for them. Do we honestly think we're the only ones bidding for them?

Let's get real and stop bandying around Bate, Morton, and any other hack we have (queue roll call now...) as trade bait for a high pick or high quality player.

To get something good, you gotta generally give something of perceived equal value.

I would love to see Hogan in the red and blue the the way he runs at the footy him and Mitch could decapitate all the opposition backmen.

    DEPTH CHARGE by Whispering Jack

The jubilation on the coach’s face as he danced a celebratory jig by the playing bench after the final siren sounded to record his team’s four-point victory over the Demons when the teams last met, said it all.    On that rainy Friday night at the Adelaide Oval, Ken Hinkley’s young midfield secured much more than four points on offer. The victory over one of the big dogs of the competition after a succession of wins over some of its lesser lights gave his team respect and validation fo

A FORK IN THE HAWK by George on the Outer

For too long in the past, Demon fans became habitually sick and tired of watching the Hawks hand out thrashings to their side. But Melbourne’s empahtic 55-point win at the MCG on Saturday has truly put a fork in the Hawk and turned that history well and truly on its head. The Demons have now won nine of their last ten encounters with the other result, a draw.     And like a fork, it was the multi-pronged options that Melbourne had all across the ground.  It certainly helped that Hawthorn
