I have posted it in the pre-game thread but it doesn't stand out there and noone seems to be reading it so I started a thread for it (sorry Mods)

Moloney is sub today, Maric for Tigers.

Hopefully a bit of a wake up call for Beamer.

He needs to start performing soon.

Don't know how much impact he will have on the game when he is introduced though.

Can't say agree with this, would've preferred to drop him and give him a full run at Casey to get some form, but will be interesting to see how he goes as the sub.

I LOVE this idea.

Rather than drop him (which was probably warranted), Neeld has said, right mate you'll get a quarter and a bit to show us some intensity and skill once the game has slowed a little, show us what you've got.

Could be a good way to build his confidence back rather than partially destroying it by being dropped.

Although, if he doesn't come on and smash it he'll be a Scorp next week.

Don't know what people expect from him a quarter of football, racked up 6 touches and laid 3 tackles. Definitely not a great performance by any stretch and he is obviously out of touch, but I don't see what the aim of potting him is when in reality he didn't do too badly. He wasn't the one out there in the 1st quarter when we were being smashed in the centre and kept continually coughing it up when we had it, in fact he would helped the discrepancy in clearances. Don't necessarily disagree with a couple of weeks at Casey, but wouldn't go as far as calling him a 'dud' or a 'country footballer'.

My judgment isn't based on just today's game. I wonder if anyone can ever criticise a sub, since the excuse can always be made that the game is almost always decided already when the sub comes in.

Just put it down to a bad year, like a few others.

A few ? I'm assuming you didn't mean that literally because it's truckloads more than a few .

In fact , the issue is that we've only got about 6-8 players who have done well this year . Overall , more than 60% of our list are below standard . On top of that , our style of play is ugly and boring and virtually unwatchable .

We need to start all over again - with a big bunch of new players . That's the awful truth of it . The truth can often hurt but you're better off facing up to it .

Moloney hasn't had a great year but he's got about 20 mates . It's a team game and blaming this player or that player is quite laughable when you consider we've only produced 1 legitimate win .

The end of the season cannot come quick enough . Time for a major re-build .

THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the
