Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Dees may trade early pick!!!

Firstly we got Clark cheap as he wanted to leave, i doubt Brisbane would have given him away for that if he wasn't about to walk out.

West could be a ruck turned forward, be a better option then paying overs for Cloke.

Im guessing you cant explain it or suggest something better rather then 'not going to bother' after you just bothered to write a useless response to my suggestion

olisik, stop! before you go too far back, please, I can't bear it.

As I have already said, the only reason we got Clark for 12 was because he was about to walk out of the club.

If Clark was happy enough staying at Brisbane I highly doubt we would have gotten him for 12.

So if he wants to leave & he's only a B grade AFL player, would you pay too much?

When Jack comes up against top AFL Mids he won't have the advantage of being aggressive before his years.

Its strange how everyone is saying that Viney is nothing special nowdays based purley on other players having good carnivals. Its still the same Jack Viney who everyone was raving about and who was being touted as a lock in our 'hypothetical best 22 for future seasons' theads?

If we were to pass on Viney with our first pick and GWS or someother club picked him up, i believe it would be the modern eras equivelant to dumping norm smith as coach. Lets take him at 3, pick his mate Wines at 4 and soldier on in 2013

Query, would we be interested in Justin Koschitski if available and if so what would we be prepared to part with to get him?

Looks to me as if a change of scenery might just be what he needs at the minute and If my sauces are correct St.Kilda might be willing to deal!

ANY TAKERS?

Bit of a gamble. A pick around 20 - 25 would probably be all. passe'.

I say we use the picks 3,4 in the super draft and all other picks are to trade in for a Beams or wellingham or boak.

We are in a great postion to attack this FA and should move heaven and earth to fix our midfield so we can be the next westcoast.

I still think we have a strong 10 players on our current list that we can build a strong side around.

Trengove,Jones,frawley,Blease,Gysberts,Jamar,Grimes,Clark,Watts,Jurruh

If we can add 6 strong names to that list in 2013

Viney,Boak,Toumpas,Stringer,Wellingham,Knights

We could be playing finals in 2013 and having a real crack

I'm sure you could add Howe to that list (and probably Tom McDonald). Plus - long term- Max Gawn I think.

Now Wines is a ball user, & Toumpas as well. They're what we need. Players who can run with the ball & distribute, as well as gut running.

Hurt factor with the use of the ball & via their spread.

The other is Stringer, Key tall who sounds like he could also be a Koutifides or Pav, playing thru the middle.

Love all the spithballing. Also love the posters who have absolutely no ability to comprehend how the father son bidding process works, the manner in which compo picks can and can't be used and the illegal deals.

We will know where we stand with Viney BEFORE trade week commences. We will either have used pick 3 or the second rounder.

It is only then that we will have any true idea of our trade position.

Picks 3, 4 and 12 to play with or Picks 4, 12 and 20 something in terms of trade table strength.

No matter what the scenario with Viney, short of Pendlebury or Watson or Franklin being involved in the trade, i cannot see the club offering up any top 5 selection for a trade.

Pick 12 in a "super draft" is what the club will be dangling along with perhaps the second rounder and / or a variety of players if necessary.

The player that it would appear most likely that they are targetting at least at this early stage is Boak.

He was Pick 5 in 2006. Has played 100 games and will be 24 by season end. He is in a similar position as Clarke was at the end of last year in terms of wanting to leave for another club.

The first question is can he be enticed to Melbourne. Maybe.

The second question is what can we offer to get the trade done. Pick 12 and 23. Maybe someone like a Petterd who they may see upside in.

This is a fairly strong trade offer. It will be stronger than what Geelong can offer in terms of picks. As the ladder stands currently, only Dogs, Tigers, Blues and Saints could offer a higher first round pick but they wouldn't have a higher second round pick. The Blues and Saints are unlikely to have the cap space either. Which leaves only the Tigers and Dogs as other Victorian teams in with a show. The Tigers only have one first round selection which they may be reluctant to part with. The Bulldogs are the only other team with two first round selections.

When you look at the situation critically, unless he flat out refuses to talk to Melbourne, we are in a very strong position without having to give up picks 3 or 4.

I agree, have flagged something similar (though had put the question out there if we might do a straight swap for the 4, but you're prob right, that's a very high price). I reckon Caddy is the other player who Melbourne might look at.

Also i reckon peeps should forget about Sheedy's nonsense. When it is all said and done they won't play funny buggers with Viney - its just too big a risk. Also as he flagged this week they will be after some mid 20 players to bolster their youth. Remember Cornes, Brogan and McDonald will in all likelihood retire. They'll go after a couple of stars no doubt but players like Bate, Dunn, Pettard and perhaps even Moloney will hold some interest for them if for no other reason to provide a bit of a buffer for their youngsters, who so often struggle in their second year of AFL (Rich being a great example). The experience of GC this year will be salutatory. This might give us something to trade with them with

No- I am one of the advocates of taking Viney at whatever pick need be- I don't so much care what "value" we get with the Viney pick- I worry about the player we may miss out on because we had to take Viney with a high pick- not picking Viney himself.

I think you missed the point.

Oh, SMFl, I am two chapters past the point...

There is an argument beginning to emerge from a few on here that if we take Viney at 3, after explicitly saying we wouldn't, we would be seen as weak tea and therefore should not pick him up at 3 as a blanket rule.

It's BS, if Viney is worth near pick 3 and we couldn't work a deal or a bluff - we should take him. From what I have heard - he is clearly near 3...

We gave up pick 12 for Clark, so how would this scenario be much different?

And name another one of my scenarios that suck?

Something constructive or don't bother quoting me with responses like this one.

This scenario is different because Trent West is a spud, whereas Clark looks and plays like Jesus with tats.

Another of your scenarios that sucked was suggesting we trade Trengove. Although you did have the foresight to raise the question of whether that would wreck the culture of the club, which I am willing to admit was very perceptive.

I like it a lot. Best option all round I've heard. Everyone's a winner.

Only a "full moon" could like that option and consider it a winner all round.

Your avatar fits the mould. Phil's butt. And tonight is a full moon.

Who is to say that the eligible 17 year olds are going to be worth Pick 3? We may find that we are giving up Pick 3, for a player that may go Pick 10+ in the normal draft. O'Meara was an apparent lock for Top 3 in a normal draft, Crouch was considered 5-10 (from memory), but was the 2nd best player available in the mini draft. I haven't heard of any O'Meara-types in this year's mini dradt (ie. a player that is likely to go top 3 next year).

I have faith in the Club that we will have Pick 3, 4 and 12 in this year's draft, and Viney comes to us in the 2nd round. That would be a win, and we won't have to do 2 things, make a secret deal with GC/GWS and we won't have to sit here for the next 18 months waiting for said 17 year old to start playing for us and having to put up with numerous threads about how they will be the next best thing. It also means we can start to get a bit of stability with our list so we can chase a premiership rather than high draft picks.

I understand where you're coming from, but you're wrong.

The difference is a choice between a 17yo pick + Viney or a mid-20's pick + Viney. So essentially we will be weighing up the choice between a 17yo mini draft pick which is a likely top-10 if not top-5 kid in 2013 or a mid-20's pick this year.

It's not like we are giving up pick 3 either as we would be otherwise forced to use it on Viney.

I really think all this is moot anyway as we will end up being forced to use pick 3 on Viney.

Hell no. We would've been better off just keeping Miller.

We need midfielders. Clark and Jurrah will be a great forward line to build around throw in Watts & Sylvia and bring in a crumbed and it is a pretty dangerous forward line. Would like to bring in an experienced mid like Boak but even getting a GC player like Caddy or Prestia would be good. Would prefer not to part with pick 3 or 4 though (unless in a Viney deal for a 17yo pick) and considering we got Clark for pick 12 no reason we shouldnt be able to secure a decent mid (Boak) for that.

I would just love to see the two of them on the park in top fitness together.....will be see that?

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
